Getting my toyota Prado more torque ?

Hi to everyone,

Can anyone help me get my 1998 V6 petrol a bit more torque/ power?

I have owned her since new.She has done 311,000km to date, just had the timing belt changed plus all fan belts replaced.I have changed the oil and filter every 5000km with out fail with mobil 1, and had the transmisson serviced every 20,000km with new filter, to keep her long term. We are making another trip this April Sydney to Exmouth towing 6m platey fully loaded over 7 days. When we get head winds the highway speeds do become painful. Tail winds we can cruise at 95 100ks. Tyres are set to max! Car/ boat is polished, to help reduce drag. Havn't cracked lotto yet!

supercharger will give u more torque but u will be looking big $$$ and thats if u can get a bolt on unit and with the car allready have 300 000km u will maybe have to look at a rebuild before u can start running any psi through the engine and and that point it will prob be easer to just sell the prado and buy something with more power ur best bet will be find out what u can do from a shop to get the power u will need

Check out the Exhaust Mod (FREE MOD). Supposed to help with torque below 3500rpm

I've done mine and was quite happy. Not going to blow you away but every little bit helps :)

change air filter (to a cold

Fri, 2012-02-24 13:55

change air filter (to a cold air intake), free flowing exhaust and aftermarket tune (dyno) if you can find someone who knows their Prado's. that and Premium fuel as mentioned above

Will give you more tourqe, power and better fuel economy.

Air intake would be the cheapest followed by tune followed by exhaust.

Cheers

Paul

hi Tomcat,

I love to drive, my wife nods off, but can smell the coffee at 50ks from the next town. 800ks a day just flows on cruise. I have a new wepon in a air pot full of coffee. that should keep her at bay! There's no platey like your own. Would you hire 6m boat for ten weeks plus costs? Nayyyyy

Oxygen sensor

Fri, 2012-02-24 14:50

My Old mans Prado was getting more & more gutless - someone at landcruiser club in Sydney told him about cleaning the Oxygen sensor which I believe is in the intake manifold ?. Anyway, he took it out and cleaned it with some metho/cotton tips, and was amazed at the change it made - worth looking into

steady on guys oxygen sensor

Sat, 2012-02-25 00:23

steady on guys oxygen sensor is in the exhaust what your referring to must be the Mass Air Flow sensor, be very careful if cleaning this as any residue can cause problems. If oxygen sensor is playing up can be easily diagnosed and you will see fuel usage skyrocket IF you want to clean the sensor use a lemon as this is great at cleaning off carbon build up but this isnt recommended to do on a whim O2 sensor will be between exhaust manifold and Cat.

i wouldnt suggest a supercharger with that many ks under its belt unless u plan on doing a drive train rebuild it would kill it pretty quickly best bang 4 your buck i woul.d go for a exhaust headers and some sort of cold air intake which would be in the region of $2000 give or take 500 depending on quality... stainless /mild steel etc expect 15% at least more torque hope this is helpful ... dont kno if you can chip petrol models but if you can i would seriously consider this aswell if the budget allows  but chips are pointless really without the  exhaust upgrade

The boys are on to it, sports exhaust and k&n air filter or some thing similar.Ring a dyno joint and find out what the best size exhaust is and most beneficial for you car.Exhaust could be $1000 min and filter around $100.Let the girl breath and watch her get up and go .More air in more exh gases out ,sweet !

Hope this helps.
