great white on 60 minutes episode last night
Dont normally post on here much but found 60 minutes very interesting last night on their report on great white sharks in shark ally off south africa. I thought it was amazing to see the guy in there who had been studying the whites for years was that confident with them to swim/ dive with them at will with out a cage. Dont get me wrong he had a great respect for them. Even the reporter Allison Langdon gets in with him for look. They also showed a shark deterant that they had trialled with great succes over there. The other marine biologist on there said that there would be lucky to be 500 of them over there which raises a point of how few there is left in the world compared to thier findings a few years ago.
Any way was wondring if any one else had seen it and what your thoughts are on it.

Pretty interesting, I liked
Pretty interesting, I liked the bit on the artificial barriers they are trialling, seems a good idea if it works, would be a great FAD as well. I did note the reporter saying something about getting to the bottom quickly, Which is fine if your sole purpose is to sit there and watch the buggers, but not great if your on a surfboard and sliding across the surface. Gutsy effort for sure

Watched it and thought it
Watched it and thought it interesting, would I do it myself (without the cage) bugger that. All good to show no fear but when you crap in your wetsuit I think the shark is going to have a pretty good idea. :-)
What it didn't show was how they came back up to the boat with 3-4 whites circling (probably using the cage you could see in the background at times).

500 left in South Africa?
That women scientist came up with a figure of 500 left in South Africa...yet the guy diving with them said that he had seen 48 different GW's in one day. I reckon her figure is BS and I would like to see her background and funding. I would have thought the reporter would have picked her up on it....but then again it is 60 Minutes.
