That guy would have to be the worlds luckiest angler or that's the worlds stupidest sambo.. To land them with that much ease and on shit gear is unfathemable to me.. The ones me and mates have caught you struggle to stop on pe 10 GT gear and if you stop them out wide the will get you on the way back in..

I got your pm mate I will reply to it a bit later this arvo..

Yeh right mate you've never hooked the sambos we fish for then a.. The blow you away in seconds espeshly if you use patience.. On a sandy beach with no reef of pilons yeh fair enough even out of the boat have caught em on 6lb takeing your time and guide ing them in the right direction. But marinas are a whole different story they are resident fish and know exactly where to brick ya..

Belly, you're a twat. How do you think we caught Sambos before the advent of braid and thousand dollar eggbeaters?

You guys

Thu, 2014-06-19 10:44

You guys are off your heads a.. I've caught thousands of sambos and on all types of gear but in marinas it's a whole different ball game .. No you don't need nor did I say you needed a thousand dollar spinning reel or even braid for that matter (in fact braid is probobly a disadvantage)but what that guy was using in that video and how he was fighting it he was very very lucky to land it.. The ones I've hooked and landed in marinas are normally very unforgiving!! When you get them close they will just run straight under the jetty.

As mentioned above the best way is the cheapest way 300lb Handline..

Anyway that's the last post I'm posting on this topic obviously you guys no better then me.

Rig that service every 25

Thu, 2014-06-19 11:14

Rig that service every 25 years is it called a shoulder reconstruction by any means ;p

thinking back on gear 25 years ago o/head penns and abu's all with 10kg plus drag on lock up is what I was using -or hand lines with builders twine, mono was 10kg at least- cause they weren't making it much thinner were I was

close to structure u prayed

 lol belly your an idiot

i was watching that video expecting to see a $50 jarvis walker kmart special, but he was using a penn spinfisher combo, what the hell is wrong with that? i worked on professional mackeral fishing boats and they stand up to anything you can throw at them they are great reels. i happen to own 4 of them and they have never failed mate, i started buying high end daiwa gear and that shit stuffed up in no time on big fish

i have caught large 30 kg plus gt's and tuna on them without a problem on top of plenty of mackeral up to 30kg sharks and all sorts of other stuff

i can garuntee you if that fish wanted to wrap you around the pylon he would do it weather you are using a penn ss or a stella

 Belly I believe you stated

Thu, 2014-06-19 16:25

Belly I believe you stated the ones you've caught "you'd struggle to stop on on PE10 GT gear" No?

You're right too, the harder you go on them the harder they go back.

I caught dozens of Sambos from Two Rocks, Freo and the old Naval Base groyne in pre braid days, the secret is to freespool them if it looks like you're going to get bricked. 90% of the time they'll stop. Softly, softly is the key.

Ive hooked them on my stella

Fri, 2014-06-20 20:59

Ive hooked them on my stella 20000 full lock on the drag with 80 pound braid and 120 lb leader with live mullet on pe 6 jigwrex candt stop them from going to the piles and jettys they run straight for them there are big 40kg plus sambos cruising around in the marinas best bet is two rocks marina more room to play them and get there heads turned.

 They catch some big sambos

Fri, 2014-06-20 21:08

They catch some big sambos at the Busso jetty and for years the standard tackle has been 1000lb sash cords, big hook and a live squid for bait. When hook up occurs, you skull drag the fish before he stiches you up around the pylons.

Cheers

Dale
