Jet skis seem to get a bad rap

I've stopped talking to wife & family members about getting a jet ski for fishing. They all seem stereotyped to jet ski= yobbo, even the kayak forum I am a member of, seems to have a hatred for jet ski riders.  I personally have more of a problem with unthinking boat users. Any comments?

for me jetski fishos are like

for me jetski fishos are like boat fishermen who are mostly respectable and down to earth people,  and most jetski people hooning around live up to the stereotype of being di**head- but there are exceptions (IMO)

I know what you mean. I have a ski. Every time I go out I get attitude from either surfers, kyakers,Swimmers or boaters.I know the rules and abide by them but that dosnt stop knob heads going out of their way to give you stick.

point peron prime example

Tue, 2012-06-05 19:36

this is aimed at the knobs who jet ski around the beach  from point peron ramp so yes you are dickheads on the whole, there are rules that say how fast and how close you can go to the beach yet most of you think the rules dont apply to you, there are many kids use that beach espescialy in summer yet you hoon around there within  few metres of the beach and little kids trying to show your mates how big a wave you can make yet I go past at more than 8 knts in my boat and I can get done! PLEASE NOTE NOT AIMED AT JET SKI FISHERMEN! just the other dickheads!

yeh

Tue, 2012-06-05 19:46

yeh i see your point there fishy fingers but i have a jetski at the house in ledge point and use that at the beach there all the time, and yes i use it for wave jumping and flying around, but i also stay 100 or so metres away from the moorings and also 100 metres atleast away from the beach or even anybody else on their boats, jetskies and even cray pots, the point is not every guy or girl on a jet ski is a complete knob that has no respect

If you're not fishing from

Tue, 2012-06-05 19:47

If you're not fishing from one , or tow surfing with one , there's very little point to one.

Like a kart in a car park . Fun for a couple of hours , then , you're just blasting aimlessly about.

If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

Most of them are just plain

Tue, 2012-06-05 19:49

Most of them are just plain inconsiderate- It's going to be interesting for me as I am changing from Kayak fishing to Jetski fishing.I've had my share of run in's over the years with some of the brainless jetski riders out at Point Peron,as I paddled past them to get to the Point.

I wonder how much "bad attitude" I'm going to get when I'm out there over the next few weeks......I think I might take a paddle with me.

Its only the show offs that

Wed, 2012-06-06 09:21

Its only the show offs that think they have something to prove that sh*t me. There is places for them to be ridden and if you need to do 1/4 mile runs, DON'T do it within 10mtrs of others. For f*k sake have some consideration, we all know you have a jetski, are you feeling deprived of attention? I have no problem with a good jetski rider and the jetski fisho's, good on them for doing what they enjoy.

If your not a d'head about your business you will not attract unwanted attention and hopefully you will change the minds of your family and others.

Good luck with it.

yep got nothing against jet ski riders

Wed, 2012-06-06 09:37

apart from thinking they must be a bit "simple", the novelty would wear off for me after about half an hour...then id be looking to sell it to buy a boat.

If it is what blows your hair back then go for it.

I have more issue with the launches powering to rotto flat out making a massive wake for small boats who are fishing off hillarys, those ignorant bastards are down right dangerous.

I reckon Jet Ski's are shit

Wed, 2012-06-06 14:31

I reckon Jet Ski's are shit hot. 70+ knots on an aquaqtic motorbike would be awesome. However, they do seem to be the Harley Davidson of the sea, and Im not talking about being loud and having oil leaks, Im talking about public perception of the activity.I personally woudnt worry too much about what others may or may not think about what you do.

However, Ive personally got 2 things holding me back from ever owning a jet ski (or Kayak) - firstly Im heterosexual and secondly I work for Woodside, and there is no way you can fit a RADAR on a Jet Ski. But, Fishing from one might be slightly different - somewhat adventurous. But I cant see where the 100ltr esky full of coldies would go, nor would there be enough room for deckies to fish that would take the fine from fisheries for me either.

Couldnt you just buy a boat for the same price and not have to put up with the negativite attention?

(Some of the above text is merely a poor attempt at humour. Obviously no-one can do 70+ knots on a jet ski)

Good luck with your decision.

Id personally import an ex drag Chevy Nova or Dodge from the states and go Drag racing - faster action and you cant do it when its windy. Plus you get people paying to see you race.

wake jumping

Wed, 2012-06-06 20:41

we seem to get a lot jumping boat wakes round point peron I dont have a problem with that unless they aproach at

high speed and pass just a couple of metres from my motor so now when I see them coming I slow down and reduce the

wake this pisses them off no end!

yep in general anyone with

Thu, 2012-06-07 07:40

yep in general anyone with half a brain usually do the right thing, but idiots who bring their mates down and put 4 on a ski and scream and yell and fly past you on the wrong side of the channel are the ones to look out for. But as most of you know there are retarded boat drivers- on the weekend we were anchored up and a cray boat fisherman was doing a titanic standing on the front, then as he got within 20m of us, he went inside and started steering. would've been no more than 10m from the nose of the boat, and probably sailed an inch over the anchor rope.

If you have a fishing rod in the back you wouldn't get a bad rap
