just got back from kalbarri and the weather was pretty good. stiff easterly in the morning then it would swing round and die off in the arvo. no swell atm aswell.
It presents perfect opportunities for those LB fishos in the morning... a chance to have a beer while the SW breeze blows in the arvo and some memorable night fishing after the blow. What more could you want?
i've caught som big tailor throwing poppers into the white water at the river mouth only problem is someone has to be at the wheel all the time it gets pretty hairy in there somtimes makeral should be around then to if you get outside
with that size boat venturing offshore will be dangerous, especially when the wind picks up. Stick to the river and take the crab pots. Plenty of blueys about that time of year and you also stand a chance of a muddy or two. as well as whiting, tailor, bream, flatties, and ive heard the occasional threadfin salmon.
head out to 10-14fthms out nth of frustrations and you will find something along that stretch all the way up to the sandpatch! look for pots its crazy ground for the crayz
All the advice is accurate, some good fishing time early in the morning back in by 10 and then some crabbing or relaxing picnic and a swim up the river or a bit of a scurf on a biscuit for the kids.
Beach fishing in the evenings at Wittacara, Pot Alley, Frustrations, Chinamans and anywhere in the river.
Great family spot.
Still waiting for the crays to come on in any number yet, still pulling everymorning, only have problems with losing pots etc around holiday times in Kalbarri, must be those "Terrorists" posing as tourists.
Just to let all know Kalbarri was excellent over xmas.
Boxing Day to new yrs blew 25knots SW and the river was closed due to the flood.
However, this was followed by 1 week of cracking weather where we picked up a few Mulloway in the mouth of the river and a 6-7kg YFT about 5km north and 3kms offshore, we had a double hook up but lost the first one due to no gaff on board. Reef anchor to the resuce for the one we landed!!
Wife and kids landed a heap of bream in the river as well.
All prepped for an early fish yesterday but the rivermouth had 2- 2.5m swell and looked decidely dodgy so gave it a miss
What a great spot, going back for Easter for sure - might have to buy a house up there so i have some accomodation.

Cheers Fellas. Thanks for the advice.
I am hoping to pick up a Quinny 475 freedom sport for the trip.
Might just stick to the river with the kids this time around and take the beach rods and have ago out the front.
