Land based vs Boat fishing

Hi crew,

After putting togeather some video of land based fishing, I was interested if people stop fishing land based after they buy a boat.

I used to fish the beach and rocks all the time, once i got my boat that all changed. I just fished from the boat for almost a year, but going out in the boat all the time became a bit like a job. lol

So my friends and I started to camp out and fish the beach a few times a year, just to relax and chill out. Sometimes getting onto hot bites.

Just interested to hear how people change their fishing habits after getting their first boat.

Cheers Grant..

Stopped land based in perth all up now for about 9 years. Always wet the feet up north though. Weed never a real problem from a boat

I fish landbased probably more than my boat, sometimes it's just simpler, safer and not so weather dependent. Obviously in a boat your catch rate improves generally but I love a bit of sand between the toes

I owned a boat for ten years and would still base my annual trips for lbg, i just found after a few trips to exy/gnaraloo that i was actually soaking a line a lot longer  and having a better time without the worry of boat launching/ travelling/tidal movements and just generally driving around burning fuel looking for structure. I've seen it many times before where boats try to get into the strike zone near the cliff edge where 90% of the lbg action is but can't. Even after selling the boat a few years ago i still get into the lbg scene and continue to have much success. Ray

Excellent topic grant.

Im looking at getting a boat early next year and was curious about this also. I dont want to give up LB however the initial boat craziness will obviously have an affect.

small

If your boat is small ie under 5m you tend to really pick your days to get out and as luck has it the weekend weather is quite often crap.  LB you can fish no matter what the weather (within reason) and at night.  Small boats at night are a bit too much hassle and usually not setup for night fishing

Intresting

Thu, 2011-06-16 16:33

I find it hard to choose LB over boat like most that have commented. But have realy sparked a new intrest in the LB options , but have to agree that not much is metro based anymore. I tend to travel away to somewere you know you will catch fish.

I also just picked up my new fishing partner, Say hello to Sarge. He's a 6 week old bull mastiff.

he looks similar to my little mustang as a pup, but he got big real fast

as for the landbased v boat id rather be out on the boat, but i still love to fish off the beach and with a few of your mates it can be as good and relaxing.

I live in Carnarvon and am a quobba regular. I started off (like most) LBG and got a boat a while back. I still head to the rocks, but granted, not as often as before now Ive got a tub.

Still love the rocks though- it presents a totally different (and usually much more difficult!) set of challenges, not to mention excersise!

Also, there can be a lot of days where the swell is down really low but the winds are up, so you can still hit the ledges with a fair degree of safety/ comfort when boating is a non option.
