large paw print harvey dam+redfin
Submitted by luke george on Thu, 2014-09-18 18:40
A mate and I went to harvey dam this morning to have a go for some redfin, we done well for a change and got around 20 fish albeit small fish. But the thing that has stuck on my mind was a large print we found in the mud. I have attached the photo and was hoping someone here could id it for me or point me to a good source.
Edit: The print was aprox 4in long and 5in wide, found in hardened mud
Cheers guys

Lots of Panther stories from
Lots of Panther stories from Jarradale and south. "Stories?" One of my best mates is convinced he has seen one. Some of the feral cats get huge, but maybe not 4 inch paws.

Looks to have claw gouges
Looks to have claw gouges down leading edge of each pad. No other prints fore or aft? Big whatever it is
I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

We've heard plenty of stories of large cats around the area but obviously no proof. Compared it to alot of dog prints and it definitely look more feline. There was a couple more prints but on hard clay so very hard to make out, this print was aprox 1m past a small ridge which leads me to believe it jumped the ridge and slipped in the mud.

""looks"" like a cat print to me (nothing like a dog).
Saw a large tan cat (at least 2 metres long not including tail) walk across the road in front of my car near swan reach in SA around 10 years ago. All I know is it was no feral cat.
The UFO is another story...... (joking about that one)...

Track down Darren Monks on
Track down Darren Monks on FB...not sure if he is on here. He was hot on the heels of big cats down south and always had plenty to say about them on the old Hotbite forums, as he is a keen hunter as well as fisho.
Big John would probably know him.

Just having a quick search on the net there are quite a few sitings of 'large cats'. Print does look slightly more feline than canine.

Nannup Tiger
Could be an offspring of the famous Nannup Tiger.
There was a couple of sightings reported about 40 odd years back and when they did a search all they found was a sheep with the rear half shorn and painted in tiger stripes.

Hmmmm
Interesting. I suggest you send an PM to Glenn Moore on this site. I know he is a fish expert, but might have someone (I am sure there would be) there at the WA Museum with a feline interest. At least this would get some answer.

Phukn big black cat. Been
Phukn big black cat. Been camping, fishing & riding east of Harvey a few times a year for the last 15 or so years & have come across the beast (beasts?) twice. Once I was pegging along a track & one leapt clean across the track about 50m in front of me & disappeared into the bush. Wasn't no feral, bloody thing was as long as the 4b track was wide. Near on shat myself, pinned it & got the hell outta there. Second time was fishing, stalking the side of a big pool & noticed movement at the waters edge on the opposite bank. Sure enough there was a bigg ass black cat having a drink at the edge of the river. It just stared at me for a few seconds then took off. I took off back to camp to, just in case it was heading to a nearby crossing with intentions of finding out how I taste.
Mate of mine has seen it to. Nobody else believes me but I know what I saw. Never camp there without my rifle anymore & I always carry it with me when I'm fishing the area to.

Is there any muslims down there?
Could be one of them, they are reportedly spreading and I wouldn't be surprised if they were trying to take over the dam.
