hi my name is kevin i am 24 and looking for a job as a deck hand on a crayboat.
i have 11 years experience
last season i worked on mare chiaro and worked the deck by my self.
i prefere to skin and stack
other boats i have worked on are: Sea View 2, Bondaniel 3, Kamikaze, Alba Marina.
im really keen to get back on a boat since the last skipper i was fishing with has now become ill and isnt fishing no more,
does anyone know of any crayboats who are looking for a deckie.
i am experienced at what i do
i am reliable and hard working
willing to travel to the job,
i dont just do this for the money, the money is good but i love being on the water,i feel at home working on a boat
can any help me ???

sounds like you know the ropes
Your best bet (Id be surprised if you didnt know this already) is going around the yards where owners are working on boats, or print up a 100 or so little notes and stick one on every boat you come to, put a notice at the beginning of each catwalk at Freo boat harbour- and word of mouth through your mates?
Two questions that will be asked or thought (call me the Devils Advocate)
1/ Did you really start humping craypots fulltime at 13?
2/ Why 5 different boats in 11 seasons?
When I was fishing, alarm bells would ring when a prospective decky rolled up with a long list of boats he'd worked on- it was rarely just bad luck.
Im out of that game now and out of touch but I thought cray jobs werent as hard as before to get- skipper jobs you were only born or married into.
Good luck anyway mate- if you present yourself well Im absolutely certain you'll get a job!

its been pointed out
to me that my reply was negative, sorry it wasnt intended to be, it was meant to be helpful and to the point.
Id advise, if you dont get a start-use the time to sit for your MC5, you've got heaps of seatime. From there you've got other avenues. The actual courses dont cost much.
Anything to put yourself a little above the next bloke and you can get work in the off season on charters etc.
Make sure you've got a seatime book and get it signed on each boat as it can be a real hassle getting seatime recognised later.
Best of luck!

Certified
Get your book certified each year by D.o.t or you will find that they don't recognise any entries that are over more than two or three years old.

Good on Ya mate for being proactive. Plenty of useless pricks who aren't interested in looking for work.

Obviously he's trying a lot
Obviously he's trying a lot of other avenues, and posting on Fishwrecked is just one more thing to try, why be so negative?

whos being negative?
those are the questions skipper either ask or think?
Fishing is a hard game on all fronts, its not like any other industry.
If you havent worked in the industry you wouldnt understand what I was talking about.
He has, and Im sure he understands what I was saying.
Sorry if I hurt anyones feelings, and I hope he gets a job, Im sure he will if hes any good.
