Mastiff owners

Hi guys.
Anyone here own a Mastiff? I will be bringing home a Mastiff X puppy tomorrow and would like a bit of advice.
The puppy is 5 months old and the current owner is not sure what the Mastiff is crossed with. Judging by the body structure, Im thinking maybe a Staffy.
Anyway, are they easy to train and good with young kids etc?
I know questions should be asked before committing to bringing a pet home, but I'm literally saving the puppy's life...hence the late questions.

there are a lot of variables like Depends on what it's been bred with what temperament the parents and how it's been raised already before you got him..
saying that mastiffs are a smart dog and respond well with training (best to train with food)... you got to make sure you your wife and kids are the leader or he/she will try and walk over you mastiff are a dominant breed so you can't let them think they are the boss or you will have no chance.
I've had my boerboel 7 years now best dog I've ever owned hands down very smart loyal obedient and doesn't bark at everyone who comes to the house... although she's a very gental placid dog with my 11month daughter I'll never turn my back on them together because you never know what can happen
they are also people dogs so don't just lock it out the back and give it no attention they need to socialise with people and other animals/dogs
hope you enjoy your new dog anyway they can be great dogs in the right hands.

Keep it on a lead when
Keep it on a lead when walking and be responsible, asking questions is a good start. Most dogs reflect their owners nature.

I have an Italian mastiff.
I have an Italian mastiff. Great dog good around kids, not so good around other dogs but only around my house and nearby park must be a territorial thing. I didn't train with food but instead got a handful of lessons with a bloke named Del from alert dog training he was great and helped very much! I would socialise him or her with other dogs straight away. It's a hassle worrying about my boy getting into fights with another dog given that he is 60kg+

DNA test it
vets have DNA test kits available to tell you exactly what the mix is. Maybe worth it for peace of mind if your concerned

we have pure bred english mastiffs. absolutely the best with our kids. send me a photo. there are english and bull mastiffs.

Id probably be asking (if you havent already) why a 5 month old dog is about to be put down?
Did it do something wrong?

I have a mastiff crossthata
I have a mastiff crossthata 6months old and he is brilliant. Very social with dog's and people since 6 weeks old!

Meet Roxie
Thanks guys for all the advice and experiences. I adopted her from a couple that had other dogs. Roxie was getting neglected and was almost dumped on the street.
I've had her for nearly 24 hours now. What a wonderful dog with a beautiful and placid nature! The missus and our 3 year old daughter has grown attached to Roxie as well.
In regards to her mix, I now think shes Mastiff x Boxer. Doesn't matter either way. Will give her a very loving home!
Have already trained her to sit when I give the command... in Vietnamese! Haha

Yeah, I think you're right about the staffy bit.

Nice pooch. Defo plenty of Staffy in her. My last 4 dogs have been Staffys & they have all been brilliant with the kids & awesome companions. Staffys are the best to exercise. Takes almost no effort at all to teach them to drop the ball at your feet after they retrieve it. Be carefull though, they tend to get obsessed with the ball to the point it gets annoying.
