If you are rock based, go to the little finger rock wall on the end of the northern side and cast north west as far as you can there is a little hole there that big silver bream hold up in at dusk. They will take most baits and prefer whole prawns. We fished that spot years ago out of a tinny and did really well on huge silver bream. Not sure about the exact time of the year but I am pretty sure it was winter.
If you are fishing inside the marina from the rocks berley is a good idea, Burleying up on the rock wall will bring around herring during the day, I have fluked the odd flounder and flathead a while back, fishing close to the wall seems to be better in my experience instead of casting out far, though you will get pickers.
Me and my mate have a whole heap of little spots we go to within that marina. I tend to go down there quite a lot due to living nearby.
On the outer corner of the rock wall, about 200 metres back from the disabled platform, right on the bend, you will find a reef that bends back and out towards the south. In and around this reef you will find that tailor holes up and corners a lot of baitfish.
We have also seen the odd school of salmon swim through, and bull herring.. and as for the smallies, you get a lot of herring and gardies...
If you go on the inside, on high and at dusk, you will sometimes tend to do better (depending on weather)
The inside of the marina has a shelf and a trench which drops to about 13 - 15 metres. Many in there get bream, skipjack and mullet. At night too, if you get them feeding well enough, you will get a variety of sharks in the marina.
Id be aware about the rays which come in though. There is 2 hazards in general to be concerned of. There is a big seal which swims the outer rock wall and comes inside to eat all the fish in front of you. Pain in the ass always gets rid of your targets. Then there is a big ray about the size of the tray of a ute, which will come up and hoover whatever he can find. If you hook him, cut your line asap cos the number of people who have tried to get him up and in is astonishing.... alot of lost line. Hes a pain too.. the bastard surfaced on us last week right underneath us on the inside and hoovered all our berley. Had to poke him with my rod to get him to piss off lol!
Anyway, thats my gist of it. Only other thing I can recommend is get a beach rod and walk down the beach which is just south of the rock wall. Plenty of tailor and the likes out there. However, be wary of the ranger.
Otherwise you can always try the northern groynes and beaches from Mindarie...
It was 54min battle as I was purposly trying to hook it and boy I got the mungral then when he surfaced onto the top I just chopped the line and he swam off freely to the next bloke beside me!
hahah yeah, well the day we went down, i was looking down into the water and kept seeing a light patch down about 1.8 metres or so down... and I kept seeing the white patch go dark then light again...
I said to my mate, "Hey, I think something is swimming to and fro down there... " thinking that the white patch was a sandy patch down the bottom and a fish of some sort was swimming above it...
then it surfaced and I realised the white patch was actually the underside of it's wing and the dark patch was the top side when it flapped... LOL~!
If your trying the beach up here go as far along the coast north as the road goes theres a car park down there walk down to the beach and head right for a little bit great spot for a little fun burley up at night and the toothys love to play CHEERS SHAG
i was down there last night...... fishing off the tip... the seal came through at about 3 or 4 and then the ray came through at 5 or 6 only caught 2 Skippy, 1 red wrasse and a bloody big Gardie i suspect that i hooked but then came through and snagged me on the rocks below... GRRRRRRRRRR but just as we were bout to leave at 5, the bait fish started to come through wich i suspect there were either tailor or mulloway below them.... tried with a lure... hooked a fish but it jumped of...
anyway trying next Saturday arvo/evening... hopefully ill catch sum.:):):)
