Monties from Fortescue
Submitted by Ryno Macca on Sun, 2019-04-28 21:14
Hi Guys,
Heading out to the Monties in a few days from Fortescue and I was wondering if the river crossing and the ramp is still in good condition for what it is. We will be launching a 7.8m plate boat and are aiming for high tide. Also is it still pretty safe to leave vehicles out there?
I have done a fair bit of research buy can’t find anything current on the condition of the track.
Any other tips would be appreciated. I’ve got a mooring rig if needed, 480L of fuel (300hp Verado), 5 days, spear and line fish. Maybe a couple of bubble dives too.
TIA for any assistance.

just got back
Hey mate just got back last week.
Track in is fine, as is the ramp. Just need to make sure you cross the river at low tide.
Not sure how much fuel your boat uses, but more is always better. We used 550 litres (150 yammy, 6.2 boat) over 8 days, with some days very limited due to weather.
Can be a rough trip over and back, so make sure you have accounted extra fuel for it.

Cheers Percula, good call
Cheers Percula, good call about the fuel to, might throw a bit more in for good measure as I haven’t had this one long and better looking at it than for it.

I’ll prob head over tomorrow at this stage. Haven’t heard anything bad about the track lately so assume it’s not too bad.

Lucky there is plenty of
Lucky there is plenty of options when the weather is bad. Some of my best trips over for catching have been when it’s blowing 20+.
How much longer do you have?

Which track?
The one posted as Fortescue Rivermouth, or the one a bit south, bitumen, dead straight for 7ks until you turn off? Told by someone who works there that "everyone does it" Out there myself in a week and a half.
