Motor won't kick over
Submitted by Shane O on Sun, 2011-01-16 13:32
I have just had the starter motor serviced, now the flywheel spins. I started the boat twice, and now the flywheel spins. Sounds like it won'ts to go,
but will not kick over?

What motor??
what sort of motor is it, if its an outboard it could need priming with the buld or the primer spilt and not getting fuel up to the carby

sounds like a silly question
sounds like a silly question , but is there enough charge in the battery as if there isnt it might not throw out the pin far enough to kick it. same thing happens in a car

Russ
Russ has come up with probably the answer to your problem. How big is you battery? If it hasn't got enough grunt to spin it over quick enough it robs power from the other bits needed to start it, like the ignition system resulting in a low or missing spark.
You said it started x 3 at home but not at the ramp, possibly drawing the battery down enough so it can't spin over fast enough to start.
Get it in and checked out because if you break down you cannot just call up the RAC.

Got the motor going in the driveway again, this time I let the fuel run dry and the motor turn off itself, I am hoping the problem was too much fuel sitting in the carbys. The motor took ages to shut down with the fyke disconnected...
