Outboard advice

Ladies and Gents

Looking to update our old 2 stroke Mercury to a Mercury 4 stroke and I am settled on the Mercury so don't need ot know how good others are. Currently running an old 135HP mercury and looking to move to either a 150HP or a 200HP due to available stock. It may be a stupid question but if we are currently running a 135HP 2 stroke a 150HP 4 stroke should be fine one would assume? Just don't wantto get the 150 and be underpowered or get the 200 and it doesn't ride right.

Thanks

What I Would do

Tue, 2021-01-05 16:47

Check the weight of the 135hp in kg then check 200hp and what ever the diff put that weight in the eng well(on the transom) and see how it looks and handles before you spend the dollars. If it doesn't work or look good work your way down in weight .
Extra power will always be better than not enough. (not overkill)

 Check what weight rating on

Check what weight rating on  your transom is . Don't want to overload it and not be covered by insurance if something should happen. Bigger isn't always better.

The new 150 will have just as

The new 150 will have just as much power as the old 135 if not more with minimal additional weight.  What is the name and model of hull? Need to make sure you’re not exceeding max up

Outboard swap

Fri, 2021-01-08 19:46

I previously did a swap Merc 135hp v6 2 st for the new(ish) Merc v6 4 st 175hp.

Easy swap, close on weight, quiet, jumps out of the hole like a 2 st and great mid range torque without the smoke and much better on fuel.  Pushed the old boat from about 42kn to 47kn wot (on damn flat water cause that is quick believe me on a 5.6m boat)..
