Submitted by Bruce on Fri, 2012-08-31 16:58
Anyone seen PW's tuna on Facebook
Finally! I have some information to share with you! Paul has fished aboard the COVA ROSE for the past 48hrs out of Greymouth in NZ. The info to go with this picture so far:
Pacific Bluefin Tuna - 107inches long - over 600lb's - 2hour fight on 130lb - Paul was working with NZ Fisheries whom at last message he was meeting at the wharf. They requested a large specimen to collect ageing & DNA data from. They will also check radiation levels to establish migration routes. Lots more info to come over the weekend! Cheers CW — at Greymouth Nz.

Massive tuna! Pretty
Massive tuna! Pretty flattering photo of it, with that camera angle it looks like 4.5m rather than 2.6m, but a horse either way!
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

he would have had a nice
he would have had a nice struggle with that one. seen him fighting marlin and small tuna before . depending on how much help he had landing that beast he would have been stuffed by the end. gotta hand it to him tho, even tho they put him on the fish he does spend time fighting the fish in the end, something many of us can only dream of doing

Serious fish
I have been done yellow fin to nearly 100kgs at that buggered me. To fight a tuna 3 times that is an awesome effort. They are a tough fish that never gives up.

big fin. they catch them big
big fin. they catch them big fellas of the back of the Hokie boats when they bring in the nets. Matt watson (itm fishing show) done a dvd on it. giant tuna adventures. its all stand up with 80lb gear from memory 2-6 hour fight time. one of the boys done 4 hrs and then busted off that would be a bit disshartning.
