Rob Allen spear gun repairs

Hi everyone,

I have a Rob Allen scorpia 1100 speargun and the locking mechanism isn't working properly. When the shaft is locked in (unloaded) and you pull the trigger the shaft should click out of the housing by about 20 odd mm. Now when I pull the trigger nothing happens and I have to use a bit of force to pull the spear out. When loaded the spear releases ok but I have noticed it isn't as accurate as it used to be. My fishing brag board at work has pics of trout with terrible tail and body shots!! LOL!

I have tried to unscrew the handle to see what is happening inside however no matter how hard I try I can't get the handle to budge. Are the RA handles held together by more than just the visible screws? I live in Karratha and the local tackle store Adventure Sports advises I should buy another handle. I don't want to do that if I can't get the faulty one off!

Perhaps I should look at buying a new gun altogether. Those Omer guns look damn fine.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

you shouldent have to buy a whole new handel just the trigger mech if it is faulty ( get one with all stainless parts, im not sure if the scorpia came with all stainless insides?). there should be a pin at the back of the handel when pushed through the mech should come out easily. the handel can can be tricky to get off the first time take the two philips screws that join the handel to the barrel and apply a liberal amount of force to the handel taking care not to damage the handel or trigger guard however this can be fixed with duct tape. try to wiggle the the handel around in a up\down left\right or a circular motion. hope this helps

have you increased mono thickness or spear diameter recently? That can cause that sort of problem. Or do you put the spear back in the mech and use the gun to unscrew the spear out of a fish? I did stuff a sear doing that and it would semi-jam.

Cheers for the advice Cameronb. I bought a new trigger mech, a new spear and new chord for it the other day so it should be back to its best. Installed the trigger mech with no dramas. Thanks for the handy pic as well.

Longole - I have had the gun for over 3 years now and it has been on many a spear fishing trip. I'm putting it down to general wear and tare because the inside of the trigger mech seems to be mainly plastic. I bought a rubber with incresaed thickness to get a bit more power out of it. Do you believe this could cause the spear to deviate a little compared to the stock rubber it comes with? I wouldn't think so. I'm just trying to think of any factor that may contribute to a loss of accuracy...Could be the dick head pulling the trigger!! LOL!

Nar the rubber shouldn't do

Nar the rubber shouldn't do much to accuracy, south african spears are pretty stiff, its pretty hard to overpower them with a single rubber, I've got a 1.4m Edge with twin 19mm and a 7mm spear and it shoots dead straight. My normal gun is a single 19mm 1.4m Edge with 7mm, i've tried all sorts of rubber combos on that and they all go about the same.

Loose floppers or floppers kicked out too far, bits of bone stuck on the flopper pin ect make those thin shafts go all over the place though.
