Rodeo / Dmax Colorado owner feedback
Submitted by Josh on Tue, 2014-03-04 20:57
Gday fellas,
Thinking about getting a Rodeo/colorado/dmax dual cab ute
Anybody got one?
What kind of real fuel data are you getting? The written down is 8.5l diesel to 100kms, sounds pretty good to me
Auto or Manual? I would prefer the manual
Would you go another one? Or recomned something differnet?
Anyting to look out for?
Im looking in the 15k / 100k kms range
Reasons for Rodeo/colorado/dmax over other utes is:
- Fuel efficency
- Hilux is overpriced for what it is,
-bt50 doesnt tow very much written down, and uses more fuel
-triton is heaps of plasticy cheap, and speedo's are often out
-wouldnt consider chinease rubbish
Cheers,
Josh

Got a dmax but it's the new
Got a dmax but it's the new model so not in your 15k/ 100k kms range. Not sure how much different they are but would certainly recommend one!

I can see it helping, there are also heaps of other 4wd/carvaning forums out there with alot of info on these utes and comparisons

09 colorado
I have an 09 colorado it was good before but now I have put on a 3" exhaust and a 'chip it' performane chip in it, it now go's like shit off a shovel and can cruise at 100k's for about 7l/100k's I also tow a 6m glass boat around 2 ton and depending on hills/wind can get about 14-15l/100k's at 100kph

07 Rodeo
I have an 07 Rodeo - 3L turbo diesel. It is the RA shape with the new common rail engine.
I get about 9L/100Km in the city.
Towing a boat up to Exy got me about 13-14Km/100L.
Heaps of power.
Inside the finish isn't that flash with plenty of plastic which is easily scratched.
Hope this helps

new
if its new then you might need to hold off until the warranty expires as I think chipping it will void. DMAX has a 5 year warranty from memory

No it dosent
Your not modifying the engine in anyway if you read up on the chip it chip it explains how it works and dosent interfer with th computer at all and therefore dosent void warranty

mate, your increasing rail
mate, your increasing rail pressure with chip it, plus higher exhaust gas temps. Most chips are apparently safeguarded against total meltdown but in the case of engine or fuel component failure you will not receive engine warranty from your local stealership.

Well Well
I just wrote a reply with some details about the chip it chip and was even going to provide a link to read up on it and an email address so you could tell them they are wrong! however they seem to have ceased trading and gone into insolvency (dont know why)...bugger! having said that if you did have a problem you could always remove it (just plug and play) then they couldnt prove a thing!

agree to disagree
No need for the email as I have told them personally that I didn't like their product when I returned it. (they have excellent customer service however)
Personally, ive been a diesel mechanic for 11 years of which ive spent 8 years at truck and earthmoving stealerships. I don't know the ins and outs of every chip on the market but I do know that warranty has become veerrrryy tight amongst manufacturers particularly in the last 4 or 5 years. You are correct in removing the chip, but I would be doing that before any work is carried out including servicing as some mechanics will take note chip is fitted(the arsehole ones will anyway). Long story short, if you do happen to melt a piston, stuff an injector, PRV ect ect and its on record you have been running a chip, you wont get warranty.

Hi.I'm picking up my '10
Hi.
I'm picking up my '10 model Auto D.Max SX next week. Canopy. Tow Bar.
70k on clock Full Service history $23k with 12mth w'ty and full tank diesel.
Immaculate. Unmarked, as new to look at ,Even under bonnet and in tray.
Only detrimental is it's white. A prick to keep clean
Good Buy???.
4 yrs, 70k. = near 50% off New purchase price.
I think I'll be getting a tuned exhaust first. with decent front EBC shockers.
Exhaust Bloke here in Yeppoon does a lot in the mines and tunes each one to suit application req.d.
Did a Brilliant job on my Patrol.

I have a rodeo
It is slightly older than what you are asking about, but havent had any major issues. It has 325k on the clock and I am second owner. The previous owner says the only drama was the fuel pump and suspension from new. It is a bit slow(to be expected) but I like the fact of a plastic interior. Can go to the beach and brush the sand/mud out when I get home without having to suck the f#%k out of it with a vaccum cleaner. Easy to maintain except for the oil filter that is in a prick of a spot. I will definately upgrade to a later model 1 down the track.
FEEEISH ONNN!!!

i like the 4jj1 motor
Look after it and it will give you 400000ks of trouble free motoring.
And what about this..........
And it's clearly holds a lot in reserve; Bruce Garland pulls 180kW and 590Nm from the same 4JJ1-TC engine in his Dakar D-Max ("And you don't have to do too much to it," he said).
