Sea anchor position

Wanting to get a discussion on the position of the sea anchor when drift fishing Front / Rear / Side. WE generally set up anchor to the front to fish from the side to allow for 3 to 4 fishermen and usually keeps the rope clear when playing fish.

What are your reasons for what you do??

Slightyly forward of midships. It is a balanced area of the boat and allows a good straight drift to the wind and is a slower drift than tieing of on the stern as the hard top acts as a bit of a sail. Always conscious of a wave rolling over the transom if tied off there as well. Doesnt really get in the way with decent hookups but when the big sambos want to play it can be a bit of fun dodgeing lines.

It really depends on your boat on mine with such a large and high cabin mine goes about 1.5m from the nose on my last boat just forward of midship was the go although a pain as it was in the way.

Slightly forward of mid ships works on my 7.5m glass boat too. That allows 3 (4 at a pinch) to fish from the windward side.

I run mine tied to the front but bridal rigged to mid ships with a long rope of about 25 metres. Ive got a 5.5 m half cabin. Get a good sideways drift and the rope is out of the way.

Bridle it between bow and just forward of amidships, still drifts true but keep the drougue away from where you are fishing. Works a treat

I use the same set up and it works a treat, don't have to worry about unexpected grey coats doing a runner.
