Wed, 2015-09-30 07:20

Camping on beach I maybee. Depends how I feel.. the beaches there look amazing. or ill  get one fo those cabins, not sure. I wont be using a boat. Cant get missus to agree lol. So I'll be  shore fishing.

Not sure abotu beach, if its safe to camp (crocs) ? End of day it might just be easier to  get one of those  cabins I saw on tv other night when I watched "Dolphins of Shark bay"....

No Crocs

Wed, 2015-09-30 11:59

No crocs there unless you are wearing them..

4x4 also not 100% needed but good to get you to a few of the remoter spots. What time of the year?? Can get pretty hot there and an aircon comes in handy (cabin) at the end of a sweaty day.

There are so many types of fish to go for the biggest problem is trying to limit the quantity of fishing gear. I know you have all the Bream gear so that has to go for chasing whiting, flathead etc. A bigger rod for chasing things off the rocks/beach is always good. Can expect Pinkies, Black snapper, the whole trevally family and the unwanted sharks and rays. We got some Mullaways from the rocks but i'm not sure how common that is.

It's worth the drive to get away from the town sites and there are plenty of secluded beaches, bays, low rocks, shell beaches and areas of sand gullies to fish. Asking the locals in the tackle shop for some direction as well as the other fishwrecked members is good.

If you are camping I would

Wed, 2015-09-30 12:13

If you are camping I would suggest going at to Peron National Park.

Some good beaches to camp and fish out there, but I think maximum stay is 2 nights at any camp so you have to keep moving.

Plenty of whiting to be caught at Herald Bight, some good pinkies southern end of Gregories (or South Gregories, can't remember which).

Caught heaps of small bluebone at Bottle Bay along with some size black snapper and the odd flathead.

Even if you don't catch a fish, it's worth a trip just for the sight seeing...................it's a beautiful place.

Peron camping

Wed, 2015-09-30 19:38

Saint unless it's a new thing don't think there's a 2 night rule we spent a week at Gregories and didn't even see the Ranger.  We're very law abiding people and wouldn't have done the dodgy.

The trip in is 4wd mandatory tho...

thansk heaps guys, yer I am

Wed, 2015-09-30 16:42

thansk heaps guys, yer I am gonna invest in some good beach gear I think month or so before I go. 10-15" rods etc.... some high qual gear to go with. Ive worked on shark boats back in day an I know a random hookup can obliterate your gear in a heartbeat if its big nuff. Everyone so far has told me you can get 10-20 foot whites in that bay if you go at oct when sharks come to feed ??.... I might go in late july-August depending on weather. I dont wanna be fisihng in 40+ heat it isnt fun or pleasent. Maybe march/April even ??..

Talking to locals is first thing I will be doing when I get there, I hate those types who think they know it all,  run into an area an an hour later they are yellin for help cos they got bogged up to the runnin boards.Having a look on maps I noticed soem good fishing grounds for 4X4 only out to the west most oceanside of the islands ?? "Dirt Hartog" "Steep Point" for the channel there looks like it would get alot of traffic through the narrows ?? (keep in mind I am wokring off maps so I may be totally wrong here ???. But that steep point alone I would imagine on tide would have a huge amount of life in it ?.

If I did go soemwhere liek that, Ic an jsut setup my 4x4 camper an crash for night ?, or do rangers get huffy ?

Nanga on maps looks good to jsut hang out if the weather is crap. sheltered'ish ?. I am relaly not one for the "turist" trips I like to go where locals go an stay away form the 100 other 4x4's

I seem to remember the 2 night rule from several years ago, no doubt things have changed.
Cheers.

Thu, 2015-10-01 17:38

in Tassy they tend to have 3-5 days depending on where you are, an hight of season. Rangers in Tassy tend to be really....forceful.. shall we say so I dont know what they like up here.

haven't been to steep

Thu, 2015-10-01 19:39

but plenty of info on it to be had by searching.   The Peron side seems to produce a lot more whiting etc than big fish.  We had a 2 other couples camping near us and ftathean and whiting were the most common catches.   Although there was small snapper taken in the week.

If you do 4wd in tyre pressues are key.  There's a mandatory 18psi or less rule,  to make life easier there's compressor stations to deflate / re inflate at the start of the track. DPAW website reckons high clearance 4wd, and I'd agree mainly as there are patches of f'n deep sand made worse by the humo between the wheel ruts.  On the other hand there's sections harder and flatter than my drive.

We were at the sstart of June and the weather was magic wqrm enough during the day to forget winter and cooler enough at night to sleep

 Thanks mate missus has

Thu, 2015-10-01 20:06

Thanks mate missus has decided shes coming too heh, hence cabins not camping.....

Reading up on steep alot warnings about sharks, an a tidle flow you wuldnt believe. But one guy i know here in perth say that mozzies out that way will eat you alive. But the fishing in that channel area is dynamite apparently.

Strange question do i have to worry bout those huge spiders up there i hear about in outback ?
