Soft plastic setups

Hi guys I'm about to get on board the soft plastic train and I'm wondering what rod/reels are being used?

I will be fishing in the 30s to 60s chasing the usuals dhuies, pinks, nannys,

I'm really liking the stradics for a reel but which size I don't know,

also any tips on the hot plastics be appreciated

cheers

i run a sustain5000FG loaded with 20lb on a blue gomoku pe1-3 rod, absolute cracking combo and doesnt break the bank to hard.

as for plastics ive found the 6inch grub and 7inch jerkshad work well. also the mccarthys are great and last longer than one hookup than a gulp.

Use a jig head about 1 gram

Use a jig head about 1 gram per metre of water, depending on your drift (the lighter the better, but you need enough weight to get to the bottom).

Cast the plastic out in front of the drift so it swims to the bottom while you are drifting towards it.

When its on the bottom, jig it up a couple of metres and then let it swim back down.

It's on the decent that the strike will occur.  If you use rainbow braid you can keep watch on the line and generally see the strike.  Also rainbow braid gives you an indication of how far off the bottom you're working the jig head.

Work the jig head while you drift over the top of it and then retrieve and cast again.

Good fun and it gives you're shoulders a work out too!

I use a shimano soft plastic snapper raider 5-8kg matched with a 4000 stradic ci4+ running 14lb verivas jigging braid. mostly use it chasing mulloway in the river. nice and lite but still no success on the mullys yet but handles pinkys quite easy.
