Yes on the PE rating and
Yes on the PE rating and thickness. See table below. PE 4 is 0.330 mm. The Stella spool states 175 yards of 0.35mm and 230 yards of 0.30mm. My guess is around 200 yards will fit give or take.
PE # Diameter
PE 0.6 ………………………….. 0.128mm
PE 0.8 ………………………….. 0.148mm
PE 1 …………………………….. 0.165mm
PE 1.2 ………………………….. 0.185mm
PE 1.5 ………………………….. 0.205mm
PE 1.7 ………………………….. 0.218mm
PE 2 …………………………….. 0.235mm
PE 2.5 ………………………….. 0.260mm
PE 3 …………………………….. 0.285mm
PE 3.5 ………………………….. 0.310mm
PE 4 …………………………….. 0.330mm
PE 5 …………………………….. 0.370mm
PE 6 …………………………….. 0.405mm
PE 7 …………………………….. 0.435mm
PE 8 …………………………….. 0.470mm
PE 10 …………………………… 0.520mm

they should put that friggin chart on the box of the line. It doesnt even tell you the thickness of the pe4 line, unlike the american ones.
thanks heaps bunny, bought a 300m spool and i dont wanna cut it at a stupid length :)

PE Rating
Hey Andrew
PE 4 line should be same or similar thickness just the breaking strain that differs between brands.

Something else i found useful
www.thesmartfisherman.com/3.html
Paulus @paulusjustfishing puts up actual thickness of some braid brands in his braid buy guide so you might be lucky and he may have your particular brand listed on there.
i aint no expert mate but hope some of this is useful

Rod rating!!
One thing that they shouldn't do, to my understanding, is to rate rods by PE!! What's the rod strength got to do with line thickness?! To me, it sould only reference line breaking strain, and max reel drag ...
One rod I have says "max PE 5" .... does that mean I can use all the lower PEs?!
I'm sure this was discussed before here on FW ... but I'm yet to see the reasons behind this.
Would be good to see some thoughts on this.
Cheers

I agree, it's wrong. Rods
I agree, it's wrong.
Rods should be rated to a line class in terms of breaking strain and further to that, it would be nice to have at least one max drag rating at 45 degrees. Some rod manufacturers actually do this. This will allow you to select the right line but also ensure you set the drag within the limits of the rod. I often buy line slightly higher in rating to the rod but set the drag accordingly to ensure I don't snap it. The higher breaking strain then gives me a little extra safety factor in case of line damage.
Rating of rods to a PE is an outdated system that was used back when PE thickness of braid pretty much equalled 10 times that in pounds of breaking strain. PE4 equalled 40lb. So it worked ok, back then.

All PE4 should be the same
All PE4 should be the same thickness, but it isn't.
Read this site to see how many brands stack up against each other:

This site shows what the real breaking strain and line diameter is for a bunch of different lines.

Should get most of the 300 of
Should get most of the 300 of Accudepth Hyper PE in 40lb (PE 1.5)on it
I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

Hi mate, Just spooled mine with PE3. It fitted 220m on so at a guess you would fit approximately 180-190 on yours when packed on tightly.

I got about 280m of Daiwa
I got about 280m of Daiwa Boat Braid PE3 on mine, though it was slightly overfilled. I'd recommend more like 250-260m of that braid.
PE4 is getting pretty heavy for a 5000 IMO
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

I decided to estimate half of the spool of the pe4 and put it on my reel, so i still have another round of it for next time.
Went off two rocks on sat managed to get a couple of good baldies on it.
One of the fellas on the boat got a friggin tiger shark. First time ive seen one caught, looks impressive.
