Just wondering - if the warm current brings in tropical fish, will the fish die if they venture out into the cold currents?

yes! most don't survive the winter. Its the reverse of what happened with the fish kills this year - cold water species that were suddenly heated up 3-4oC and died. Most species have only a small window of suitable water temps.
edit: I should add that some will turn around and head back north again... but those that don't or can't will mostly die

Its a bit sad
Its a bit sad to see fish kills up and down the coast. My friends filmed a sun fish of Mindarie last year , Aprox 100 kg. They were happy just to have chance to see one on a calm day.
