I need a new surf spin reel for my 10 foot rod. Was thinking Daiwa Saltist. Any suggestions or comments would be helpful.

For 10ft and a cheap one i
For 10ft and a cheap one i love my Emcast Sport 4500, rrp $129. My boss and one of my mates also have the same setup. Great for throwing lures all day for Tailor and Salmon, and fairly light when matched with a Graphite Rod.
Saltist are a better reel than the Emcast, though personnally i didnt like how heavy they were, but if you dont mind that weight, go for it :)

saltist
they are decent reels, along with what Buz mentioned have a look at the daiwa emblem pro it is a beter casting reel with the same quick retrieve, the heavier reels may feel a bit heavier on a 10ft rod, unless your looking at the 4500 saltist that would be a better size for that rod

Yeh would definately be
Yeh would definately be looking at the 4500 saltist. Specs say just under 600 grams. Spool design on emblem pro looks like it would cast very well. Emcast sport a fair bit cheaper too so both a definate consideration. Will go and suss them out.
Thanks.

I decided to go with the Saltist 4500. Will have to take it out for a test drive on the weekend. Hopefully will find a few Tailor willing to take a bait.

Got the Saltist 6500 mounted
Got the Saltist 6500 mounted to a 12F beach rod with 30 pound braid and it's bloody good for beach fishing and smooth as. Had some big rays 10-20kg and the reel handles it just fine. With a 4-5oz star sinker it casts out ok as well but make sure your drag is done up tight before you cast then back it off a little.
