Am heading to Phillip island in December - was wondering if anyone has done landbased fishing their to perhaps shed some light on what is caught, locations, rigs etc etc? Cheers

What u targeting?
Depends on what you want to target. A wide verity can be caught. Snapper, whiting, gummies, salmon, mulloway is possible, elephant fish, squid. It's up to you. For snapper, mulloway, elephant fish, gummies, fresh squid or mulies, eel fillets for gummies is really good. Can be bought at any tackle shop over there. Places to try Cowes jetty, Newhaven jetty, San Remo jetty, woolami beach, smith beach, stockyard point. Plenty of places!! Running sinker and snelled hooks for bigger fish. Sinker depends on the current. It's pretty strong in Phillip island so depending on what the tides are doing. Hope this helps you and anyone else!! Cheers

Yeah mate tides around there
Yeah mate tides around there really rip out at some serious speed. Also if you are going to try any of the rock platforms out the front of the island be very careful. i have not fished them yet but have been told they get a pretty nasty and unpredictable swell through there. I have fished off the front in a boat pretty close to the rocks and I reckon it would get pretty hairy.
