good place to get garfish

Hey guys n chicks, looking to catch some garfish for bait as i'm going up to horrocks in a couple of weeks for a fishing trip with the boys. i've done some research and have been told that garfish are a great tailor bait. would love to know where i can go to catch some. south of the river would be great. i've already got some herring some whiting and some small bait fish from ammo jetty (does anyone know what these are, little silver things only got a couple as i don't know what they are) . also does freezing the bait ruin it.

is this a good season to catch tailor as i'm real keen to catch some would also like  some mulloway, any tips on finding a good spot for tailor and or mulloway would be appreciated

would also like to hear from anyone that's been to horrocks, would love to know what to expect and any good spots (if your will to give that info away). lookin at fishing near the river. i'm so excited about this trip it's all i can think of and it's still 2 weeks away, i'm dieing

I used to get my gardies from the north mole freo and the asi groyne cockburn i used a burley cage (floating type) ontop of swivel and about 300mm drop then loop off a longshank hook then another 200mm to the bottom longshank hook, i used coral prawns for bait. I used to get nothing then i copied what the asians were doing :)

Gar Fish

Inside reef structures with a heap of burley will bring them in and calm waters seem to work well. Floats and small hooks work well also. Moving baits help with little bits at a time.

As for the rest, just get out and have some fun. I am sure you will do well.

woodmans point

as others have said you should get a few gardies around woodmans point, you will probably also get a few herring which are also good fillet baits.

dont forget to take some poppers up to horrocks also, IMO more fun than chucking gardies
