Thevenard Island fishing trip

Hi All

I'm new to this site but I was wondering if anyone had taken there boat over to thevenard island. I just wanted to know just how good is the fishing over there? Heard it was the best. How safe is it to leave your car and boat trailer in Onslow.

Cheers guys

Sports fishing is awesome, you may be a little let down if you just want to kill bottom fish but if you want to test the upper limits of a 20lb spin outfit I know no better place. All the trevs, queenies and tuna you can throw a (whatever you want) at. Car stays in the lockup at the mackeral motel in onslow and they run you back down to the boat(need two people). Having said that you won't go short on a feed if that is what you are chasing, but I think from what people say it has copped a flogging for bottom fishing, but is still WAY better than anything round Perth. Spent a week up there in May and had two of the best sessions of my life.

Yeh going to head out there for some r and r. Big game fish sounds good and hopefully get a good feed. Do you need to head out far from the island to get amungst the fish or can you get em fairly close. The reason I ask this is was wondering about how much extra fuel to take onboard. Planning the trip around July and was wondering if you know what the weather is like round that time. Wind swell ect.

June july should still beOK

General concensus seems to be that end of March - start of june is the best time, hot water, not too much wind, low swell but not stinking hot. I did a lot of running around but that is how we fish, and we were chasing big GT's so wanted to go to some of the out of the way spots. Having said that a lot of really nice fish were caught very close to the island. If you split the fuel three ways then you really should not have to worry about the $$ too much to take it easy each day. Happy to give you a bit more info if you want just PM me.
