Pajero
I have had a 2010 Pajero for two years. Very good tow vehicle, very good around town. OK 4WD, would be better with a lift kit and a diff locker.
Ill bet a 60k km unit is ten grand cheaper than Hilux or Parado.
The NT Pajero do have two issues - carbon build up in air intake manifold , and rear door rust issues under seal at top of window.......all vehicles have issues
Pajero has best turning circle on market, and easily delivers 9 litres per 100km.

Either vehicle will tow it
Either vehicle will tow it no worries. I have a V6 Prado 120 that tows my 2.2t boat, though it gets a little thirsty when lugging it around.

Get a diesel I had the 150
Get a diesel I had the 150 series gxl prado, comfort and great fuel economy even towing my 2.5 Tonne boat, I have sold it now though and have got a 2010 ranger as I needed the ute also another good tow vehicle am heaps more affordable

Great cars.
I had a 2010 turbo diesel prado. Towed my 3T boat no problem. Struggled up the hills, but then so does the BT 50 I bought to get a legal tow vehicle. Averaged about 18L per 100k's with the boat. 7-8L per 100k's on trips down south without the boat and around 10 in the city. Great car. I imagine the Hilux would be the same.

3T aye, not bad for a car
3T aye, not bad for a car rated to 2.5T but you don't win i've seen a 8m cat being towen by a Prado and it somehow got up the hill at Dampier that would have been 4T at least. they must tow pretty well

Dont get a Pajero
Dont get a Pajero, worst car I ever owned for towing. I had the turbo diesel NM. Mate has the petrol NP I think and he is having nothing but issues as well. (electrical glitches)
Stay on the Toyota path and you will be fine.

Nothing wrong with the Pajero
Nothing wrong with the Pajero I had the NT and was a great tow vehicle. Only thing I had to do was fit air bags to the rear as it can sag a little. Plenty of power and towed my 2T boat up the east coast with 7 people and the boat fully loaded. Was still averaging 15lt to the hundred. All cars have pro's and cons but I have had the Pajero, driven the prado plenty of times with and without the boat, currently have an Amarok but will be going back to a Pajero next year as I want the wagon again. If your looking at the Hilux do yourself a favour and have a look at the Amarok. I towed my Assassin back from Perth to Exmouth, 2.5T and the ute loaded and was able to sit on 100km all the way no worries and still averaged around 18lt per 100km. They are doing some great deals on them at the moment so new or second hand you should be able to find a bargain.

just get either of the two
just get either of the two vehicles you are thinking of, preferably diesel. Both will do the job well. Prado with a set of airbags in the rear coils works for me when towing.

both
I've had 2 of the current shaped Hilux's, both diesel, one a 4 speed auto, and the current one I own is a 5 speed auto.
the 4 speed was a fantastic tow vehical, and was made better by installing a $140 gearbox oil cooler.
the new 5 speed is better with my small dionghy, but I drop it into 4th when I pull the old boys boat (2 tonne+).
that being said, Dads prado (even though similarly rated), is the same engine and gearbox as my hilux, and for some reason, shits all over the hilux for towing. not saying the hilux is a bad tow bus, because its definitely not, but yeah, the Prado is an awesome tow bus.

It all depends on whether u
It all depends on whether u need a ute or a wagon mate. Personally i would opt for a turbo diesel over a petrol, and if your worried about fuel consumption then opt for a manual, although autos have there pro such as being alot better for beach driving in dunes, no clutch to wear out, less chance of twisting axles. They do sometimes have issues with overheating when towing big loads and can guzzle the fuel aswel.
Definately opt for the prado over a pajero, and a hilux over an amarok. Dont rule out the new ranger/bt50 either. The ford everest is the wagon version of the ranger due to be released soon...im planning on getting one.
Mate has a turbo diesel, 6spd manual prado. Its very nice to drive and has that toyota cult following reliabilty.
Good things come to those who bait.
