V8 Yamaha flywheel

Received a letter from Yamaha Aust tell of the need to replace the flywheel and electronic control unit to be replaced on our twin 300s on the rescue boat.
The new ECU will give a warning when 80 hours in the rev range of between 3400 and 4250 is reached so that a new flywheel can be fitted at each required 100 hour service. The flywheel replacement is of no cost to the owner.
The reason behind it is that the flywheels are more like a harmonic balancer and are rubber mounted, if the rubber fails there is vibration and it can cause the crankshaft to snap.

So your 300's are the early
So your 300's are the early V8's then?
They only put them out for a short while til the V6 300's came out I believe?

V8s
They went for V8s on ours for the extra weight needed aft because of the amount of fuel we carry.
When building the boat we asked for as much fuel capacity they could squeeze in and with a full load it put a fair bit of weight forward, to counteract this the put heavier engines on the back. She carries 780 litres allowing us 200nm at 25knots with a safety margin of 150 litres.

Same here
Got the same letter for our F350 engines. Given the issues we have had with these engines considering looking at another supplier but not sure if anyone else makes a 350hp engine. need it given our vessel is 11.5 mts long and carries 900 ltrs of fuel.

Did you 'only' want 350hp?
Seven Marine's 557hp engines get a good run in the states. Basically a Chev LS engine in marine packaging. These would look good on your rescue boats.

Chip them
From what I have heard you can get a chip to take the 300s up to 400hp, would it be worth it. They chew 220 litres an hour flat strap at 46knots in a 10 metre Naiad now so what would they use then.

Only 200 hours on 350's.
Only 200 hours on 350's. Only problem I've had is the sync function keeps dropping out. Not major, just annoying.

Sensor
Had a check engine fault come up on one engine after about 100 hours, turned out to be a faulty sensor.. Every now and then one engine comes up with low oil pressure waring, shut in down and restart and the fault disappears, been checked out and the pressure is good.
They have done about 430 hours now.
