Western Australia's first JetSki Fishing Forum
Hi everyone,
I would like to thank Adam for creating a forum for all the WA Jetski fisherman. I am sure that as time goes on more JetSki Fisho's will join the forum and post pictures and comments of there fishing trips and jetski fishing rigs.
JetSki Fishing is a fast growing sport and very enjoyable manner of fishing. I am currently working on various ideas to promote this sport in WA and generate more interest in it. A lot of you guys on the site know me as JR JetSki and have given some good comments and advise on my fishing escapades, questions and posts. I am also kind of new to this way of fishing and have only been doing it for tha last 15 - 18 months. Still a lot to learn but with all the advice on the site learning will be quick and enjoyable.
Thanks for all your support. You guys are a great fishing community and I am proud to be a part of that.
Regards
Johan

I should be heading out on Sunday 29th August at Woodmans Point for some squidding and then a few hundred metres off South Beach for some fishing... Normally clean up on King George there...

On a full tank (70 Litres) I estimate 150 - 170 km. Given that you do not play with the throttle to much because it then becomes heavy on fuel. The models without the super charger will probably do a bit more.

I will email you the rigging
I will email you the rigging doc that I drew up. This is how I did my setup but you can improvise and improve from that. I used normal 12 mm square tubing, welded the frame to suite the Eski and then sent it in for hot dip galvanising.

my set up
hey
my set up is pretty basic in comparison as i wanted to see if it was worthwhile before spending more money. I find my set up fine, but intend to build a newer and better frame with probably 2 smaller eskys instead of one big one. That way I can keep anchor, tackle, knives, hand lines, lures etc in one and keep the other for my catch. I have looked at a lot of ice boxes but have not found what I am looking for as yet. If you want photos of my sounder/chart plotter installation I can send you an email.

Cheap ice boxes
If anyone wants to buy a decent sized esky for their ski like Johan has then buy from one of these websites as its heaps cheaper than buying from BCF.

Ski
Tell me about it ninja, i rode my 5 times before it needed a new engine because the person i got it from didn't know how to look after it.
It had a sticky valve from not being winterized properly.
I wish i was into fishing when i bought it, i would have got a boat instead and saved myself 10 grand.

Ski problems
I guess like anything you buy second hand you are really trusting the person you bought it from to have looked after it. I personally do not winterize my ski as I ride it all year round and I just get it serviced once a year. I think one common mistake that people make is spraying wd-40 into their jetski's air intake as this gums up the valves. If you wish to spray anything into the air intake it needs to be a proper fogging spray or you can remove the spark plugs, spray directly into the cylinders and then hit the start to pump the oil around. Lots of people also don't realise that wd-40 swells rubber which can lead to them falling off, not something you want happening at high speed. If you want to use something, I use Inox Lanox and I coat the externals of my engine in this after every ride. CRC 66 marine is another good product for externally coating the engine. www.salt-away.com.au this is another great product and something that I use to internally clean my ski after evrey ride, I even tested it by taking 2 containers and putting nails in each. I placed tap water in both containers and then added salt away to one of the containers also. I then watched them over the next few days, weeks and months. After a few days the container with nails and water was all rusty. The container that had the nails, water and salt away did not show any signs of rust at all, even after 3 months.

Bunbury Jet Ski Fishing
In my lifetime I owned 3 boats and a kayak and decided to try Jet Ski Fishing a couple months ago. Main reason for the change was because I didn't use my 18ft boat because its usually just me and its to hard to manage. When I had the smaller boat it wasn't up to the offshore conditions.
A mate saw my rig and got himself a brand new high output waverunner and joined me with my new hobby.
We did 110kms a few weeks ago and used about 17litres to fill up.The skis are great and the 'fun factor' cannot be equaled.
My rig has a dual battery bank, Garman 300c sounder, windscreen, bimini tower and a 50l ET escape eski. I have all the required safety equipment and am planning to install an electric bilge in the near future.
We are not aware of anyone else in the Bunbury area that does Jetski fishing and would like to find out if there's others.

Jet Ski Fishing Rig
Thanks bod I will post a few photos later today.
I find it easier than kayak fishing but still more challenging than boat fishing (the actual fishing part not the rest that goes with it)
I have a number of 'war stories' about my kayak fishing days but it did change my perception on safety and being prepared. Sorry bod I got sidetracked and will get back to the setup.
I am building a dual rig that will take two 42 l eskis and will post the photos when its done. There's lots of considerations when you add accessories/mods to your rig and personal taste/requirements will be the deciding factor on how you do it.
