Which Plano tackle box

 Hi Guys

New to the site so thought I would get everyones opinion.

Just been thinking about putting together a kick ass tackle box for all my needs. What are your thoughts?

Been thinking about the Plano boxes and leaning towards the 7771 Guide series. BCF have it one sale atm for $119 if ur a club member.

Any feed back on this model or other ones/options would be appreciated.

Forget the box mate, get a tackle bag that holds 4 trays instead & buy some extra trays to store the rest of your tackle in. Just carry whatever trays suit the kind of fishing you intend to do & leave the rest at home. A decent bag will hold all the tackle, spare spools, leader etc that you need on all but the longest trip. As a bonus you will probably have enough room to throw in your camera, wallet, drink & snack as well as hang a couple of rod holders off it, all while it's hanging off your shoulder leaving both hands free to carry your other gear. Once you have had a decent tackle bag you will never even look at a box again.

Im with Fossil,id go one of the soft bags that store large plastic trays . maybe even have a couple of these if you have heaps of gear. Im never a fan of taking all my gear out and exposing it to the salt.

Got the big plano for the big

Fri, 2012-10-26 05:32

Got the big plano for the big boat , along with 6 rods etc and just about the everything except the kitchen sink ...like to all my options covered lol ....however if targeting eg river tailor in the tinny or landbased obviously you can downsize to a smaller box or trays in bag as suggested ...and just use the big plano as a the storeroom in that case...had mine for a few years now , been knocked around however still in very good nick ...all clips all working etc...the only con with mine is there doesn't seem to be a way you can pull the trays completely out...

We stock these and they are an awesome bit of kit. Many of our customers have now converted to them including Tantrum. They come with 5 trays and and plenty of room to put pliers, scissors, leader and much more.

Feel free to drop past and check them out.

has the 7771 and the 777 and in addition to having all his swivels and hooks in the right spots, he has a bit of label from each swivel and hook packet in each compartment as well so you know what what you're picking up.  I think it comes from being a doctor and wanting to know that you really have picked up some procaine rather than barbituates when you have a syringe in the other hand.....

I followed his lead and got the second box.  Its great if you have your own boat (he has a 9m Arvor) because your gear can live on it.  Its tougher when you have to carry it.  I have a couple of soft bags and ususally take those.  Always looking to take less while having everything I need.  One of those fun problems to work on, I believe.

797 FTO Extreme. Oh yeah! Angled, waterproof cases, huge storage.  Downsides are that the base is a bit soft, it's big, and the price (shop around).

Tackle bags for sure

Fri, 2012-10-26 17:09

I have 2 x bags loaded and another small berkley bag with plastics, jig heads, leader and small hard bodies- just load it from the other 2 depends on what or where I'm fishing.

I had a tackle box along time ago but bags and the plano containers are the way to go for sure...

HI Guys

Thanks heaps for your input, I went and had a look and couldn't pass up the 7771.

U guys have definitely given me some more ideas though. The 7771 is quite big and will become quite heavy by the time i'm done filling it.

I'll be looking at one of the bags for sure. Hopefully it will only be lifted from car to dinghy/boat.
