Yamaha F115B
Anyone running the new F115b Yamaha 4 stroke or the Mercury 115hp 4 stroke ???
Sold the Etec 90 and looking at the Yamaha, Mercury and Etec in 115hp to repower. All seem around the same weight and I know they all have there pros and cons but concerned the Yamaha will be a slug with the extra weight. As it is will need to put about 30kg of ballast weight in the front of the boat to compensate the extra 30kg on the transom and concerned the Yamaha wont be any better then the Etec 90. Will be going on a 5.5mtr Galeforce thats rated to 120hp but no weight rating. Have spoken with the boat builder but as the boat is 10 years old and they have changed hands he will not give me any help in the extra weight.
BTW the Yamaha is the cheapest with the current promo.

yammy
if the Yamaha is cheaper, I'd go with that. Mercs have come a long way in the last few years, and have almost dropped the "black anchor" tag though, but yeah, yammys are pretty good.
I personally wouldn't be too concerned about the 30kg weight difference. if needed, put a hydrofoil on the motor, or try putting your fuel tanks up front to compensate.

Yammie
i ran a 2013 yammy 115 4 banga on a 5.3 trailcraft centre console and it was an awesome match good economy , good top end speed and sat well in the water i dont see why you would need ballast in the front of your boat but then again im no boat builder.
We feel nothing but a certain difficulty in continuing to stand

try it first before ballast,
try it first before ballast, and if needed just extend the battery cables and move that but I doubt you will notice it.

I will try first without the ballast but the motors will be 30kg heavier then the 90 Etec. At the moment my scuppers sit just above the water line, with an extra 30kg I am thinking it will sit below. Reading other forums this has been the case.
More concerned about no gain going from the 90 etec to the 115 Yamaha. The boat goes well now with the 90 but want more top end and mid range.

Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Yami hands down
30kgs - you won't even notice it
I re powered from the f115a to the f150 and that was an extra 30kg
Jetpower did mine and was v happy. Greg from Gt fibreglass did the transom raise
from 20 to 25 inches. This was on an 18foot baron

Thanks guys I have had a look
Thanks guys I have had a look at the forums and that is one of the issues with the extra weight that the scuppers are below the waterline at rest. I fitted the ball type scuppers and will see how it sits once fitted. I guess if it sits below then will put some ballast up the front.
With the current deals on at the moment have decided on the Yamaha 115hp and will see how it all goes once fitted. Being a new motor its hard to find anyone to comment on the performance. Chivers will be doing the fitup.
Cheers

Squidvicious1 do you have any
Squidvicious1 do you have any pics to show the mods. I am hoping 30kg of lead in the front hatch will be enough or another option is to chuck on an electric motor and battery up the front but not planning to do that until next year.

What about a 30L fresheater
What about a 30L fresheater tank up front with a washdown pump.
Dont use it till days end so you keep your weight.

Extra weight
boat must be very much on the edge if 30kg is going to make the difference between scuppers being above or below waterline ! 30kg is only 1/3 the weight of the average person !
i am just about to power a new ocean whaler with a f115b they are the lightest 4st in that class, I had a f115a on my previous whaler and that was a very good motor.
I don't think you will gain massive amounts of performance going from a 90 to a 115 but your economy should improve and the yammy will be pretty well odour free.
My spots are so secret even the fish don't know about them !
