Your thoughts

Hi Fishos, i am chasing your thougths on a re-power.

I have a 1997 5.3m Caribbean with a 90Hp two stroke Mercury.

Looking at changing it out to a four stroke Mercury 115Hp Pro XS.

Does anyone here have one or know of a mate with one, and what are their thoughts on it.

Any opinions appreciated.

cheers

EZ Sharp

Has anyone got an EZ Sharp sharpening system and happy to provide some feedback on it?

I'm ok (just) at doing it by hand on an oil stone and can get it shaving sharp but looking to get a jig system for ease and speed and to do my larger and Jap blades at 10 degrees.

Cracka day

Had a great day out yesterday. Picked up another Metro Macky and some nice extras along the way.

Caltex, North Mole - open ?

Hi everyone - I went there the other night for a fish and fhe place was shut with the doors boarded up with a corry for inconvenience sign posted, my guess from a break-in.

Can anyone tell me if its open again ? Cheers !

Sambo size/weight estimate please

 Hey guys,

I hooked up to a big sambo yesterday, it inhaled a soft plastic and took me 20 minutes to bring it to the surface.  This thing was pulling like a freight train.  I got it to within 15 metres of the surface a few times, and then it would just take off, peeling drag (set to 8 kg) like I wasn't even there.

Eventually we got it to the boat and took some photos, the jig head just fell out because it had snapped the barb off the hook (6/0 hook, 1.5 oz jig head).  Skipper couldn't lift it onto the boat, it was too heavy for him.

The skipper said that it was the biggest fish he'd ever seen, it's certainly the biggest I've seen, was a heck of a fight.

Can anyone give me an estimate of what you think the specs were?

Screwdrivers - sizes ?

 Hi All,

Thinking of investing in a set of Wiha precision school drivers to help with the job of changing reel handle knobs and servicing bail arm roller bearings.

However, I am not sure of the sizes or types to get. Can anyone advise ?

 Flat

 Philips

 Ponzidrive

 Torx

00, 1, 2 etc ?

Thanks

Mandurah Boating Death last night.

The channel marker into which the boat is believed to have crashed.

A very said outcome from last night- there boat collided with Marker. Threw both of them from there boat into the water, took awhile to find the boat,as it kept going.

Beginners tale

So, the calm weather yesterday gave me an opportunity to get out and explore the sound a bit farther than normal. Being new to boat fishing, I'm still learning the ropes. Launched from Woodies.

What I discovered:

 - Anywhere on the lad side of garden island/carnac that I dropped bait (squid/mulie) was immediately taken by Trupeter.

 - Between the islands I was able to catch plenty of brown spotted and king wrasse pretty concistently. I kept 1 king; which tasted pretty good.

 - farther out beyond the islands and the bites dropped off. Some Wrasse but not a lot else.

I was hoping to find whiting; but no such luck with all the trumpeters.

So, my question is; in the areas I feel comfortable heading with my boat (inside the islands, round the back on a clear day); what species should I target this time of year? (e.g. is there any point going for snapper).

Scalies at Hillary's

Hi guys, just wondering if there's any scalies at the aqua jetty at the moment. Need to get some bait. Cheers

Nullagine fishing

Anyone know what the fishing is like along the ripon hills/marble bar road? Great country round there. Would love to hang around and see it in  the flood.  Cheers

The Smiles Say It All !

With family visiting from interstate, I took the opportunity to help my 3yo granddaughter get on to her first fish.

It was her first time ever on a boat, and using her little pink combo she got from Santa, she hooked up on the first drop.

With some assistance up came her first fish. It may only be a yellowtail to you and me, but her smile says it meant a whole lot more to her !

She followed up a little later with a whiting, and was then quite happy to play in the boat while we smashed a good feed of sandies and a few squid.

A great family day on the water with 4 generations fishing !

boat transport from NSW

Guys, can anyone please offer any ideas they have on what it would cost to transport a 26ft boat from Newcastle, NSW back to Perth? I have found my dream boat, but just not sure about transport costs, before i head over to inspect the boat.

Any advise would be great, thanks in advance

Mixed bag in skippy hole

Beautiful  evening in the skippy hole, lost a big pink on the skippy gear ad did the skipper.2 big break offs on the heavy  gear , got a mixed bag of skippy herring squid and an ocky. 2 nice tailor over 50 cm. Great evening on the water

Sharked Dhu

Thought this was worthy of a mention. First sharked dhu for me. North of Two Rocks inside the bank. Managed to get the jig back...minus the hooks. Just though the assist hook line had worn through until we saw something floating 50m away. Lucky for swim bladders. Can't quite envisage how it happened. Decent size shark I imagine.

Couple of firsts

Took my boat out for my first go at deep dropping today and stopped in at a couple of fads. Caught my first dolphinfish on one the fads and seen 2 or 3 landed in other boats, not alot of action but I was happy to have ticked that one off. Then we had a go at bottom fishing, hard work winding up 1kg of lead from 200m+ but it was pretty exciting to get a bait down that deep. Sounded up some likely ground, dropped 2 rods down and as soon as they hit the bottom they loaded up. Half way up we dropped the larger fish but the other one stayed on and up came an 8 Bar Cod, albeit a small one. Thinking we'd cracked the code on the first drop we redrifted a few times for countless green eye sharks and a couple of deepwater flathead. Tried a few other spots but just caught more greeneye so called it a day.

Kimberley

hi. Heading to the Kimberley region in April. Derby to sale river. Looking for any info on a place in cascade bay called waterfall beach. Travelling in an 8 metre boat. Thanks in advance

Tinny tuna again

Out again on Sunday, pretty much the same as last week, troll in close for the Mackerel then out a bit deeper for tuna, heaps of flying fish around and found the bluefin in almost the same depth (17-20 meters) got another 1 each then headed back in due to the wind picking up and making it a bit uncomfortable.

Fishing Tuesday Wednesday awesome weather

Who might be throwing sicky Tuesday or Wednesday weather so far looking awesome

Good Angling or Sheer Luck

Well managed to get to the beach for an overnighter. Was fine till about 9.00pm and the small front blow in.

First cast and herring were ready to play. After catching a few for bait the big lines were set earlier then I would normally but the spot looked fishy.

Since there was a heap of small whiting around out comes the light gear for some big fish lollies.

As i was just walking back for another cast me young fellas rod starts bouncing in the rod holder and he's onto some thing reasonable.

As I'm watching him not paying much attention to my line ourr lines cross over I get a big lump of weed wrapped in my 6 pound braid.

I could feel my line getting more pressure thinking it's just tangled with his but no he's already pulled up a solid tailor.

I'm on! This is the part of sheer luck and pure fine angling.

I manage to slide another 55 odd cm tailor up the beach. Luck part was not getting bitten off with a small long shank hook just in the corner of the mouth.

Think it may have smashed a whiting already hooked and this was a good upgrade.

After a windy slightly wet night it's back home.

Fire up the cooker I made Christmas just past to do a smoke test run.

All cooked and feed time.

Good times.

Cheers Wes.

Chasing Tuna

Another adventure on the west coast chasing Albacore Tuna

Starter motor

Well what a shock to find out my starter motor had shot it self . Went to Yamaha to price one was told $1400.00 for replacement . You have to be joking .

So onto internet searching and low and behold I can get the same genuine part from Queensland for $580 sent to Perth .

I have used him before for getting a part for my car saving $900 , part still going strong years later . If Addmin gives permission I will post his site info .

Being a pensioner money is gold .

Awesome Australia Day out in the tinny

Went for a bit of a Macky troll out of Hillarys on Sunday, no luck with them but headed out a bit further and found some tuna instead, awesome fun seeing them smash the plastics on the surface, kept one each then decided to slowly head back in dropping plastics on the way on good looking ground, picked up a nice size cuttlefish moved spots and hooked my first Dhu on a 4" gulp. Pretty much all the tuna schools we saw were in 15-20 meters and the dhu was in around 10
