Fishing Discussion
Jurien tomorrow
Submitted by ctan1968 on Thu, 2021-04-08 14:02Hi all,
Was so lookiing forward to 4 days in Jurien except Mother Nature has put a spanner in the works.
Will still tow the boat as it acts as a trailer as well. If there are any windows, we'll fish.
Just as a back up, are there any weed banks in the bay where we could possibly get away from the screaming easterlies and get the boat wet? Possibly get the odd squid.
Thank you all in advance.

Today’s effort
Submitted by Silver Fox on Wed, 2021-04-07 16:22Went for a trip out to Booby Island today. Shit conditions. Ran 50 nm on 35 litres of juice, the Optimax is getting me 1.4nm to the litre as a daily average. Picked up my first pair of Barracuda and some smaller Trevally on the Troll. Awesome day on the water.

Ground within 15km of metro coast
Submitted by Greg77 on Tue, 2021-04-06 11:38I’ve recently become the proud owner of my first boat - a quintrex renegade 460. I’m comfortable taking it up to 15km offshore on the right day - which generally puts you in the low 30s in the metro area. My question is whether there is ground that still holds dhus in this sort of depth range. I spent yesterday morning doing a lot of sounding in 31m about 10km out of mindarie and didn’t find any flares greater than 0.5m. Is it worth persisting in this sort of territory? I’m running a 1971f and tm66. Cheers.

Out riggers
Submitted by 721daryl on Sun, 2021-04-04 20:13I have a new 6.1m genesis walkaround hardtop boat build starting soon and I'd like to set it up well for gamefishing. I'd like people's thoughts/recommendations on size, styles and mounting. I'm thinking reelax base T topper with 4.5m poles mounted on the roof with a doubler for strength

Northstar VHF radio
Submitted by davewillo on Thu, 2021-04-01 10:27Hey guys teh handset of the VHF radio on my boat is buggered it seems. The external speaker turns on and I get a bit come on the screen when I first turn the speaker on but no display and none of the buttons bring anything up. The red distress button lights up but that's it. The insulation on the cord is all falling off so I think it needs replacement. Problem is they don't seem to exist any more.
Any suggestions where I might source one or am I better off just to buy a whole new radio?

Buying an older tinnie
Submitted by SeperateKnob on Thu, 2021-04-01 08:56How many people would buy a 20 year old tinnie between 4-5m? Some research has shown ali boats only last 30 to 40 years? Might buy an early 2000,s model trail craft to go out squidding and take the boys knee boarding

Full Moon - Epic Fail
Submitted by Paul N on Tue, 2021-03-30 08:41Out on Monday and the weather was great . Launched 6am Ocean reef and fished our way out to the bank . Tried heaps of spots ranging in depth from 35 - 80mtrs . Most spots we fished have produced in the past. Fish and bait showing on the sounder but could not get a bite . Even bringing mulies back up without getting eaten by pickers . Tried using squid , mulies and wras without so much as a nibble . It was like the water was dead . I dont normally take much notice of moon and tide charts but had made the comment when we launched that there was a full moon and not sure if it will affect the fishing .
Back at the ramp and the trailer had a flat tyre . tyre sorted and then the electric trailer winch packed in with boat half way up . eventually got boat on trailer and headed home shaking our heads after a fishless day . weather and company was great but a fish would have been nice.
Does anyone know if fishing on a full moon can affect the fish biting that much or did we just have one of those days !!
Cheers Paul

Any Garmin users out there?.
Submitted by Silver Fox on Tue, 2021-03-30 07:15Hi all. I've picked up another boat on Thursday Island and it's got a Garmin plotter/sounder full of marks and tracks ( excellent for a newbie to town....:) I was wondering how I can copy the current information to the C-MAP card or sd card and install it onto a new Simrad plotter I've got for the boat?.Your input is appreciated. See photo attached of new potential fish slaying device.

Shore Catch Competition of the Month Poll March 2021 - Best Comment on Snapper Snapper Snapper Post
Submitted by Mick C on Sun, 2021-03-28 20:05Thank you to everyone that responded to the request for nomination of the funniest Fishwrecked thread over the years. On review, there was a clear winner in Snapper Snapper Snapper by Fisherman1992 (http://fishwrecked.com/forum/snapper-snapper-snapper), with some other honorable mentions (Petermac and Tony Halliday are right up there).
Following discussions with Adam, the poll this month will be the best response to Fisherman1992 from current active members of Fishwrecked. There were plenty of worthy comments, and the thread is well worth another read when you have some spare time. The poll will close at midnight on 31 March.
After careful consideration, the finalists are:
Lamby - Could be some Darwinism in effect, not a bad thing for the gene pool.
Scano - If you aren't keen on taking the advice and safety concerns of others then why did you bother to put this post up in the 1st place? I don't think they built tinnies with 35 knot winds and 5m swells in mind!!
Carnovonite - I think he has his hand on his pinky, no need to go catch one.
Iceman - No photos - then all this has been BS. It is a pity the Department of Transport cannot revoke your RST – that’s if you have one. Based on your posts I doubt you passed.
Beau - I'm absolutely hooked to this thread haha. I love reading everyone’s reactions!!
Please vote for your preferred response (all are good). The most votes will win the member a quality boning knife from Shore Catch.
Thank you for your interest and participation.

I need a deckie for Tuesday , the weather is looking very good.
Have a 23ft Bertram. Leaving from Woodman point. I live near Hillary's but the boat is kept at the power boat club . If you live in the northern suburbs you can ride with me. Share fuel and bait costs.

The joys of living on an island
Submitted by Silver Fox on Sun, 2021-03-28 13:19Picked up a new boat today. The guy who sold it to me was an officer of the law who is leaving Thursday Island. I got a stupidly good deal on the boat and he said he would throw in a few lures. 70 plus lures later it looks like I'm not going to need to be shopping for tackle for a while!. Yay, yay, yay!.

Glassing repair advice NOR
Submitted by greyheads1 on Sat, 2021-03-27 19:19Looking for recommendations from people on good glass repairers NOR. I've just had my boat back from a motor service and there's three big dings on one of the strakes. It's beyond me how the damage has occurred, the chips are absolutely fresh and I'm convinced it's not me- as it's at the stern only 6inches in from the transom, and on the side of the strake so not been done loading/unloading, haven't been anywhere less than marina depth and tie down straps are always tight. Whilst I haven't spoken to the service yard yet and will do so early next week, I'm struggling with how they could have done it. Boat doesn't need lifting for an outboard service surely?
anyway recommendations for repairers welcomed.
