Submitted by MACZTA on Tue, 2008-12-09 15:35hi guys, i'm a newbee here and just wanted to say hi, my name is marc, and unfortunately i dont reside in aussie, south african i am, but merely wanted to get in touch with people fishing all over on a similar equator line, hence similiar fish. I have a small boat, nothing of the size i have seen in your guys pics, but would like to hear from you, possibly share stories and learn a little, and share our techniques on catching similar fish. anyway all in all great to meet you. :-)

illegal Cray fishing
Submitted by Bodie on Tue, 2008-12-09 12:57have heard that this morning the fisheries inspected a boat coming back into geraldton after he had been out getting crays.
He had his boat limit "12"
But they searched the boat and found an additional 25 crayfish onboard.
apparently they searched his house also, finding under size crays and equipment for illegal selling of crayfish.
He then had his $100,000 razorline confiscated.
Personally i hope they can sell his boat to someone for $1,000 then fine him $99,000 for the crayfish ontop.
dirty dog....
No doubt this wouldnt be the only case going around during cray season.

Swan crabs
Submitted by Bodie on Mon, 2008-12-08 10:19Hey guys
Well this time of year i try head out just before xmas (Day or 2) and try pick up a feed of crabs for xmas day.
Usually i head out off mandurah, but from all reports it seems they may not be big enough before xmas.
Drove down the Fwy on the weekend and nocticed boats netting along the fwy.
Just wondering where is a good spot to head, and are they getting any good crabs in the river at the moment.
Saw the report from one of the FW members when they went for a dive, but curious to know if any one been trying the nets?
Cheers

Tailor fillets on toast
Submitted by HuggyB on Sun, 2008-12-07 08:59is so hard to beat for breakfast!
Summer fishing = tailor
Just remember when fishing for tailor on treacherously shallow in-shore reefs from your boat:
a) 10lb leader is probably a bit under gunned, but if thats all you got go with it and be gentle
b) Have enough large jig heads so you can cast at the reef without getting too close
c) Make sure you have enough 4 - 6" paddletail lures. Snapbacks are certainly more durable than anything else I had
d) remeber a landing net as tailor teeth tend to cut through 10lb mono pretty easily when you "leader" them into the boat
e) tell your mate to keep a lid on it and not yell out "yooohooohooo" when he catches them, thereby alerting 52 boats within a 5nm radius to fish next to us on a 30m long reef.
In probably 30 - 45 minutes we hooked about 2 dozen tailor around the 45 - 60cm range between 2 of us and boated 4 through more ass than class. Through a stroke of luck(?) when the armada of boats showed up, the bite had shut down so it didn't seem that appealing a place to fish. When we left, the other boats that showed up quickly followed and tagged along behind us for a while but trying to look like they weren't following us despite looking like a convoy of boats - its amazing how the "sheep" mentality works when one goes the rest follow.....

Nth of 2 Rocks Report - Saturday
Submitted by UncutTriggerInWA on Sun, 2008-12-07 04:55Headed out with the dog and 4X4 on the beach north of 2 Rocks. I couldn't sleep so I arrived early about 4am. Perfect morning with low seas.
No early strikes prior to daybreak and no sign of any Tailor either. 7:15am major hookup resulting in nice 5kg plus Mulla. I was stoked.
7:45 and another strike! This fish was serious and I walked up and down the beach for a while and finally bagged another Mulla upwards of 8kg. Needless to say I went home very happy albeit I like my feed of fresh Tailor. The trip home was delayed some 45 minutes due to some serious digging. The beach was a lot softer than it has been over the last few weeks.
I was not able to record images as I left my phone on the breakfast bar at home....Silly me...

Near Tragedy at Quoba
Submitted by carnarvonite on Fri, 2008-12-05 17:06Was speaking to an Ambo mate yesterday, told me they had a callout for a bloke who had gone for an unexpected swim at Quobba
Seems the bloke and his mates were fishing off the lower ledges, with waves coming over about knee deep they would stiffen the legs and keep on fishing, untill one that bit bigger came along and in the drink he went.He managed to get out safely but was cut to ribbons from head to toe from the barnacles and oysters.
Bet he doesn't go down onto the bottom ledge again to be an accident waiting to happen. At least the sea rescue didn't get a call to go looking for him or possibly a body

soft plastic bream
Submitted by damo6230 on Fri, 2008-12-05 16:04in line with previous discussions about SP I fished the Donnally River down south for bream using soft plastics(SP).
in response to Stevef and till thought I would quickly post a forum.
I was using Slam 3' minnow and managed to land a few bream ranging from 33-38cm.
used the SP on 1/20 TT jig heads mainly concentrating on the deeper sections of the river around/adjacent to rock bars/banks.
no fish caught on bait.
all bream released
no phot'os yet as camera at work and I have been away all week. will post later

Stella or Saltiga
Submitted by cen on Fri, 2008-12-05 14:28Now i have seen this placed up alot on sites but never with a good solid answer to solve the age old question!
Stella or Saltiga.
The comments that come back are always 'Stellas better!' or 'Go Daiwa'.
I don't want to see that! i want good solid evidence on why the one is better than the other and to specify,
i am talking about the heavier models ie Stella 18000 and 20000 or the dogfight and expedition.
The reason i ask this is because i am trying to work out which one to buy for jigging and popping.
Cheers Cen

Sea/Drift Anchor
Submitted by Stevef on Fri, 2008-12-05 11:34Hi, Just wondering what length rope people generally think is best for using a drift anchor. I had mine on a fairly short rope, and the bloody thing snapped at the knot last time I was out. I am thinking that a longer rope would end up putting less stress on the anchor and rope.
Any opinions appreciated

need help buying rod/reel for augusta
Submitted by byrnedog on Fri, 2008-12-05 08:43Hey peoples,
This is my first post on here, so please be gentle...
Firstly I don't know the history of fishwrecked but well done to whoever started it and to those who keep it going. I stumbled across it in a google search for Bream fishing!!
I've just returned from a long long stint in the UK (very happy to be home and to see the sun again) and are looking to set myself and the Mrs up nicely with some suitable gear for Augusta. I plan on doing a bit of blackwood river fishing and maybe chasing some salmon when it's around. I'm looking at buying maybe two-three rods/reels to begin with but have no idea what would be a good combination for what's being fished down that way.
I'd really appreciate any help from you peoples. It's like learning to fish all over again!
Thanks and Cheers
