Fishing Discussion
Palm Beach(Rockingham) Boatramp Closed from today- 6 to 8 weeks.
Submitted by Moking on Mon, 2017-09-11 13:47Went down today to the local boatramp,it's been fenced off and maintenance work has began on finger jetty and ramp. Spoke to contractors on site, and advised at least 6 maybe 8 weeks closure. They said they want to get it open before crayfish season begins!
The other shallow Ramp is still open, but you will stuggle launching on low tide.

Looking for fishing partner
Submitted by stumpie on Mon, 2017-09-11 11:07Hi folks
I'm looking for a fishing partner that can come out with me mainly at the weekends. I've got a 22 ft boat moored at Port Cooggee marina so really there's no towing, launching and fighting at the boat ramp. I'm not able to go out on my own due to physical limitations so I'm dependent on a fishing buddy that can handle the ropes at the jetty and on occasions haul up the anchor.
My wife doesn't like fishing so I'm looking for a like minded person who likes to be out on the water to wet a line. I mainly fish in Cockburn Sound and the North Mole and when the weather conditions are suitable venture off beyond Garden and Carnac Islands. I've only been fishing under 3 years and still have lots to learn. So if you're a gun fisherman and know the local waters it'll be awesome to hang out and learn from you otherwise just having a buddy onboard that enjoys a fish would be great as well.
I'm 49 and live south of the river. Would be good to hear from anyone who's interested. PM me some info about yourself.
Cheers

New Harbour Rock Wall
Submitted by bunfish on Mon, 2017-09-11 09:12Wanted to start a discussion regarding the new limestone Rockwall that Freo Ports have installed to protec tthe traffic bridge.
whilst its marked by safe water markers, does anyone think once sediment has settled there will be any fish that may school or use tidal changes to tuck up on the wall?
im thinking maybe mulloway on the right tides?
theres no way to walk or get to the wall other than by boat - small tinny would be perfect from Leeuwin ramp,
just a general discussion piece & wanted to get everyone else thinking?
27 meg or vhf
Submitted by Travis p on Mon, 2017-09-11 08:49if im heading around the 150m mark or fads etc does the uhf still have reception or do i need a vhf any help advice is great thank you

Friday a good day out
Submitted by gruntre69 on Sat, 2017-09-09 22:31Headed out for the day on Friday. It was a bit lumpy in the morning as expected by the weather prediction, however the arvo came good and we were able the cruise back in at 22 Kn. The fishing was very slow but there was some excellent whale watching going on with a pod of whales playing around with big jumps and beaching for about half an hour and about 300 meters away. With only one small Dhu and a Scorpion fish on board I was about over it and was ready to call it when we thought we'd try one more spot. Just as we pulled up and started our drift another whal surfaced and blew its air about 10 meters from the boat. I had my back to it and the noise of it exhaling scared the crap out of me...
Finally the fish came on the bite and we pulled in another Dhu and a pinky and then saw a school of Pinkies on the sounder and soon landed a second similar one. This was about the only time I have ready seen a good fish show on this Sounder and I have the upgrade on the way... Good size pinks and a good feed in the end!

First good run in Back in Black
Submitted by Ryan C on Sat, 2017-09-09 18:48After a pinkie run which turned into a cephalopod frenzy last night off Hillarys we headed off Mindarie at 6 am this morning, bagged out by 8am and had an awesome day marking new ground in perfect conditions and running in the new Suzuki 140 using 56 litres last night and 10 hrs offshore today. The Markfish unit is sensational for pinpointing lumps and the Barcrusher is unbelievable seeing as its 2.5 m smaller than my last Ali Hardtop , great day with mates Joffa and Ben with good fish and lots of laughs !

Commercial long lines - deep drop
Submitted by terboz123 on Sat, 2017-09-09 10:36Hey guys
not trying to kick up a stir here , nor trying to crucifiy someone working if I am wrong here
but can someone confirm to me this, what's the minimum depth for a commercial boat working the shelf with settling lines?
there was one working the depths between 220-450 , ( I went to both edges of the floats to see if it was a set line)..... the boat was being very odd in terms of movements when I started working south towards him....

Snapper time
Submitted by Stirlinator on Sat, 2017-09-09 06:49Hey guys (and gals),
Need a little help with targeting Snapper on the 3 mile. As a general rule, is it best being inside, on top or behind the reef?
Been sitting just inside or on the reef in 10-15m with little success so I'm obviously doing something wrong?

Deep drop sounder pics - what am I seeing ?
Submitted by terboz123 on Fri, 2017-09-08 19:25-another mission off the shelf , another day of green eyes, missed hooks up(3 of) or just very strange currents pushing us up the shelf..................
at at times there was no current and the boat would spin and do circles twisting the reeels together .....
Had lovely visit from a nice mako too!
what at am I seeing the pics?
was in the same vicinity as a commercial drop liner today ( I had marks in same area previously, so I have high hopes I am in the right places ), so I can only assume I'm the area I guess

Submitted by whaler235 on Thu, 2017-09-07 23:21Just looking for some info on where to start with bill fishing in Karratha, I hav done a lot of bill fishing in Florida and they use live baits. Do you use lures (skirts) in Karratha or pitch baits, are daisy chains helpful? Should I use outriggers? Any info is helpful. Cheers
