Saffa Fishing - Tigers
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Mon, 2014-09-08 06:58Hi All,
Just wondering if we've got any South Africans on the site that are experienced Tiger fishermen. I'm off to Zimbabwe next month to fish the Zambezi and have been given some tips of what to take and buy, but just thought I'd throw it out there to try and expand on my understanding of what to take and how best to fish for them?
Cheers,
Adam

Eco Beach Trip
Submitted by Swompa on Sun, 2014-09-07 20:31

Wife, midget (7 months old) and I took a trip up to Broome and out to Eco Beach for 4 nights in Late August for my 30th.
The tides for our trip didn't equate to good fishing though I opted to take a few lures and my reels knowing that they had rods there.
We landed in Broome Airport and headed over to BAS for the 15 minute flight out in a little 5 seater Cessna.
After a few hours sitting down, we arrived and watched the world go buy.
Due to the big tides I didn't put too much effort into getting out but managed take a 4wd ride up to the creek, about 11km away, for a low tide flick. Due to getting bogged, the next hour was spent trying to dig the car out of a sand dune and then snatching the recovery car, so we had 10 minutes to watch sunset then had to head back.
On our 3rd day we managed to get out on a boat for an afternoon session. With a little bit of chop about, we motored around looking for bombies for a couple of hours, and after finding a likely spot, anchored up. After a couple of quick monster runs, all went quiet and we moved again. Once again, a few monster runs then nothing.
Final spot is where I had fished before, catching GT's, mulloway, big cod and Many others, though on this day it only gave up a Bluebone grouper, and a hand full of small ish cod which went back.
That was our last day in Eco and we headed back into Broome for a night at the Mangrove hotel.
On the way out of town, I forgot that I had packed my lures and knife in my hand luggage and security were nice enough to take it from me. Hopefully the local charity has a bit of fun with my gear.
in closing, the trip the trip was pretty relaxing. Last week, the fishing charter out of Eco picked up 20 sails in one session, so pick your tides if you decide to go up. The best fishing I have ever had was out of there, on small tides.

anyone want to help me understand my furuno
Submitted by roddo on Sun, 2014-09-07 19:27Hi All
just wondering if someone would like to come out for a days fishing and help me setup my furuno 587 running a pair of ss264 transducers. I have been running this setup for a few months now and cant seem to get the settings right so i run it in auto most of the time. so i am wanting some help with settings but more so explain to me what im actually seeing on the sounder. I don't seem to get arcs like most people mention. I still manage to catch the odd fish but believe i am wasting so much time on areas that arn't holding fish.
the boats a 7.5m jackman running twin 225 yammies. wouldn't expect you to chip in for anything.
im located in mandurah but would be happy to launch anywhere although most of my marks are down this way with some around rotto.
i really want to give the deep stuff a go in the near future but until i can understand my sounder better i will be wasting to much money trying it.
thanks in advance

Looking for a second boat to go out wide
Submitted by randall df223 on Sun, 2014-09-07 17:18I am keeping a eye on the forecast with a view to going out wide on Thursday 11th, about 18 nm west of ocean reef.
I always prefer to have a second boat in company when heading out that distance.
Any one thinking the same? Perhaps stay in close quarters, or in touch on the comms?

Mills Charters
Submitted by Shimka on Sun, 2014-09-07 10:47So my Fathers Day present is a voucher to do a weekday trip with Mills out of Hillaries. I just did a forum search on them & have seen the less than flattering reviews but it's a present so I'm obliged to take the trip. Just wondering if it's still the same story, ie: take your own gear, bait & esky? Do they actually let you keep your catch in your own esky or do they insist on bundling the whole catch together in thier storage? Anyone know if the boat isn't as packed on weekday trips? Most importantly am I allowed to take a few drinks, (not too much, just 3-4 cans of JD) I can't anywhere that tells me that on thier website?
Thanks for any help.

why buy other braids?
Submitted by anypuddle on Sat, 2014-09-06 21:14When you read Paulus (-just fishing) site and his qualifications, why do we buy any other braid but tasline? .I'm far from any kind of expert and only have one reel loaded with tasline 85lb. - but the stuff just doesn't break. Currently searching for some 8lb braid for freshwater and the tasline- sas 6,8,and 12lb seem too good, the diameters are unbelievable. Even Paulus says specific knots are required for leaders etc.. thoughts?

Woodies to Warnbro
Submitted by 420casts on Sat, 2014-09-06 20:24 Hi everyone, basically just checking out if anyone has had any good luck off rocks / jetties / beach between these places. I have had a number of good fishes from a few good spots, but haven't fished around here for a long time.
I would be really interested in finding out where I can catch some Skippy or Tailor, and even some Whiting.

Submitted by Dirt on Sat, 2014-09-06 18:23Hey guys I've got a certate 3000 that I want to match up to a rod to give micro jigging a crack, why not hey. I've got PE-3 and PE -2 sorted. I thought about the red and gomoko but havnt heard to many positive opinions. Any other option I can look at locally that don't cost an arm and a leg, maybe 2-300 bucks. Thanks guys

Fuel tank inside centre console
Submitted by jeda on Sat, 2014-09-06 17:05I need some advice, Just bought a westerncraft whaler and the fuel tank (portable 30ltr) is in the centre console. The battery is at the stern close to the motor, just wondering if this is a good spot for it? Have alot of electrical wires in there (12V i think radio, stereo, sounder etc). Any advice would be great. Thinking of swapping the battery and fuel tank around( could fit 2 tanks or 1 big one down the back)
Thanks Jed

Stolen Reel
Submitted by Diesel80 on Fri, 2014-09-05 20:44Car got broken into whilst at work. Stereo stolen and speakers.
I can't find my new reel at home either. I fear it was in the back of my car from last trip. It is a 650Bcvrrt alvey. What makes this special is they don't make them in maroon anymore and I had the last one in stock in WA.
I am devastated. Keep an eye out an Pm me if you see one for sale or know of someone who has just "bought" one.
Cheers

Bream braid to fluoro
Submitted by lachieH on Fri, 2014-09-05 12:41Hi everyone. I know this topic has been discussed before but I can't seem to find any that work. I am currently using 4lb fins braid and 8lb yamashita fluoro leader. I use the double uni not and a couple other ones but whenever I try to cast small 4g lures as hard as I can the not seems to break really easily. I think that the lines may be cutting each other? Anyway any help would be appreciated.

Jurien Bay
Submitted by Pezdog on Thu, 2014-09-04 10:48Hey guys
Heading to Jurien in a few weeks and looking for some advice on best spots to fish?
Had a search around and some good tips there but not too recent. Anyone been lately with an update on the weed as well?
Will be landbased and no 4wd.
I have heard the jetty is as good a place as any but will be very busy so anywhere slightly secluded to relax and have a frothy without the hassle of tangling up with others?
Cheers

Rigs for livebaiting out wide
Submitted by beau on Wed, 2014-09-03 18:42Hey guys just wondering what rigs you suggest when using livebaits from the boat. Planning on fishing around the 20m and 40m mark using herring size baits with a single pinned behind the head going for sambos. Dont really want to use a patternoster I think I'll get too many tangles on the drop.
Im thinking of going a meter or two of leader from the hook to a swivel, than more leader up to the mainline with a teardrop sinker or something similar clipped to the swivel.
Cheers
