tough fish
Submitted by petermac on Fri, 2013-11-22 20:00I was surprised how tough sombos were when I moved south from the Pilbara ( they are bloody tough) and then I started thinking YTK I haven't got one yet but what else is as tough on the end of your line compared to a n/w fish , at first I thought china man cod , but I thought nope sambo pulls harder , then I thought back to the days when you could fish in pond zero at Dampier salt and I found a tougher fish than a sambo ,,, its a milk fish they go of like a steam train lots of you blokes will shout me down but if you haven't done battle with a 10kg milk fish you don't realy know what a tough fish is

D'Entrecasteaux National Park
Submitted by fuzzy79 on Fri, 2013-11-22 19:46I am thinking about heading down to D'Entrecasteaux NP for a few days next week. Does anybody have any hot tips on places I should try fishing (land based)? Are the main target tailor and salmon? Any suggestions on the best spot to camp - I was thinking of Moores Hut as my wife would appreciate toilets...
Finally, I know you're not supposed to use quad bikes in a national park, but is that policed in the area? Any people have stories of whether or not rangers are actually out policing this.
Thanks

Flathead Question- Peel Harvey estuary
Submitted by crasny1 on Fri, 2013-11-22 12:20Might be a question that our trusted museum Ichthyologist Glenn Moore can answer, but why is there plenty of flatties in Perth water, in estuaries up and down the coast, but they are scarse in the Peel Area.
I find this perplexing and have often wondered, but never asked.
Cheers
Neels
PS I live in Bouvard, within a 100m walk of what I would have thought would be pritine flathead waters. Have never bothered trying because of that knowledge, but hoping I am wrong.

Luck
Submitted by Abz on Thu, 2013-11-21 17:21Hi all,
so I've had abit luck with catching the elusive mulloway lately, but I'm wondering if there's anything I might be doing wrong or need adjusting because I've found that the bulk of my catch of mulloway have been around the 60-70cm mark.
So in the past 4 sessions I've caught 9 and 8 of those have been in the 60-70cm mark.
1 was just under the metre mark.
so the question is why is it that I'm catching mostly the soapies? Oviously there's more soapies around than the bigger ones but surely something's may increase the chances? Or no
would appreciate some input from those that have had success with them.
thanks

S Bend/Flat Rocks
Submitted by Formerathlete on Thu, 2013-11-21 12:39I'm thinking of heading to S Bends in the morning for a couple of days and nights beach fishing. Hopefully the forecasted light onshore breezes and late evening tides will make the trip worthwhile.
I've read some of the many posts about that stretch but any current info on track and beach conditions would be greatly appreciated. Any successes or failures might also help. I'll post anything noteworthy next week.
Cheers

Wide gap trebles
Submitted by Super peg on Wed, 2013-11-20 22:44I've recently purchased some new rings and trebles to upgrade my lures, I came accross some trebles with one of the three hooks being a wide gaped hook,
just curious if anyone has any pros or cons with these?
I can imagine it making it more difficult to throw the hook but does it effect the hook up rate or lure action?
also what's people's opinions on feathers on the trebles, makes a difference or no?
thanx Pegz
Shark fishing
Submitted by zain on Wed, 2013-11-20 22:13I need some help deciding on which reel to choose either between the trynos 50 or the TLD 50 2speed.
Also what are some reccomadations with rod that will suit that. I've got 1000m spool of 100pd braid waiting to be loaded up.

Lure choices for swan flatties
Submitted by Browndog on Wed, 2013-11-20 19:24Hey FW crew, after some advice/opinions.
I took the young bloke down the river last Saturday morning to have acrack at some flatties. Was my first baitless session, and had a few soft placcies to throw around. I found they got smashed to bits by the voracious blowies, and only lasted a cast or two. I figure bait would pretty much be the same. A couple of guys fishing nearby were using hardbody lures, with some decent success (50cm+ and a couple around the 40cm size), the best bit was they could continue casting & retrieving without having to rig up another soft plastic that had been shredded. I also didn't see them hook any blowies.
So what's are peoples suggestions/favourite lures for flatties? If possible I'd also like to be able to target some saltwater fish as well, so anything that can double for tailor/whiting or even hezzas would be good.
Today I bought a Berkley 3B thing, I think it was called a "scum puppy" or similar, and a larger Halco something or other in gold that was reccomended by tackle shack in Malaga, he told me it works well for choppers in the swan too.
Any other reccomendations?
Thanks,
BD.

Ashes
Submitted by Boppo on Wed, 2013-11-20 05:45Can't wait for the ashes to start tomorrow and I am hoping beyond belief that the aussies can win back the urn.
Think the bowling is pretty much on a par, their spinner is a class above though but we should hold our own.
However, look at the batting averages stats;
Rogers- 35 Cook-47.8
warner-36.8 Root-40.1
watson-36 Trott-47.4
clarke-52 Pieterson (wanker)-48.4
smith-34.8 Bell-46.6
Bailey-38.4 (thats first class runs) Carberry- 43.9 (thats first class runs)
Haddin-33.9 Prior 42.4
Not pretty reading is it but,
CMON AUSSIE!!!!!!!!!!!
