Moore River Advice
Submitted by dalaisc on Mon, 2013-11-25 08:34Sup Peeps
Heading up this weekend and was hoping for some advice on where to fish. Taking the kids so somewhere kiddy friendly would be awesome. Also have a 4x4 so your secret beach locations would go with me to my grave.
Also keen to go sand boarding so any suggestions on what to use on the dunes. I heard that cardboard is not the best.

Bream and flathead this weekend
Submitted by fisharoo on Sun, 2013-11-24 14:37Been working hard to suss out this bream on artificials thing for last couple of years. Found a fairly reliable spot recently, been picking up a few most sessions until this weekend. Been the best winds for me, could see the buggers but over 6 hours in two sessions didn't pick up a thing. Found that blowies were twice as active this weekend. Just wondering if any bream fishos on here felt the same? Need to update my bream fishing theories:)
maybe to do with the wind and weather?
cheers

Reef picks
Submitted by scotto on Sun, 2013-11-24 11:42Anyone used these mooloolabar pick anchors? Any experiences on their performance? Thoughts?
i need a decent reef pick for the dinghy, and I'm not a massive fan of the traditional reef anchors, as I've had 2 let go (bend) whilst diving... Not fun.
Wouldn't be too hard to make my own either.

Submitted by seadoggystyle on Sat, 2013-11-23 18:01Hey, could someone please advise me on the min legal size for sand whiting? I caught about a dozen today all about 25cm, but thinking they were King george I let them go. Now I know they were sand whiting because they didn't have the dots and but cannot find legal size for sand whiting or bag limit. So now P@# off, oh well more fish for someone else I guess.....

crays on bommies
Submitted by choc on Sat, 2013-11-23 15:42Hi guys
Looking at putting pots in this year for the first time ever.
I am in Busselton and plenty are being caught by the divers and there are heaps of pots out around Peppy Beach and Stratham on the larger reef structures.
I dont really want to put mine in the middle of everyone elses pots.I have a few spots in close that are just smaller reef bommies in the same depth as where most guys have their pots, we catch smaller dhuies, good pinkies, sambos and skippy on these spots and was wondering if the crays will hang out on bommies that are only the size of an average lounge room or do you need to go on the longer/larger reef?
Any help for a rookie would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers Choc.

ROV Inspection Coral Gardens
Submitted by HSSS on Sat, 2013-11-23 12:57 So as promised we took our Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) to the outer reef on Friday and had a cracker of a day. We got two sites videoed with the first of the sites being coral gardens. Being a popular dive site , it consisted of a large coral wall running north south with plenty of ledges for crays. Location as follows. Video can be found here
S 31-39.816
E 115-37.866
I will get the next site video edited and publish as soon as possible.

buy sell etiquette
Submitted by D_d_001 on Sat, 2013-11-23 12:55just curious of what ppl think is the correct etiquette when buying and selling gear on here. of course what Adam has listed in the buy and sell rules but eg should only deal with one buyer at a time or is a bidding war OK?
first person to PM has "rights" (by rights I mean correct etiquette only sometimes it's not that easy ......o fcourse the seller can do business however he/she wants) also what are peoples opinions on items that come up for sale way overpriced...have seen a few lately. ....do I think: not my business? or a friendly PM. after all I'm sure most here are genuine and may have bought an item when it was more expensive....or comment in the thread where all can see and maybe help a buyer from paying too much. but probably offend the seller?
some great deals on here.....and some ...not so....I certainly don't have all the info but have seen a few upset comments

Cheynes Beach - Boat Fishing - Questions & Tips
Submitted by trueblue_10 on Sat, 2013-11-23 07:56Hi all
Heading down to Cheynes Beach near Albany for a week at the middle to end of January with the family. I have a Ally 6.1 Ocean Sport Quintrex. I know it has no ramp and it is a hard beach in a protected part of the bay where they launch boats.
Does anyone have any experience or tips launching/retrieving a similar size or bigger size boat from the Cheynes boat launch area. I will be using my Prado 4WD and mackay drive-on boat trailer. Have a good sounder/GPS with navionics gold maps of area. Just want to make sure if the size of my boat will be a problem launching/retrieving.
Also looking for anyone who fishes from Cheynes from a a boat if they would kindly give me some general tips where to head out with my son to get to reasonable deepsea fishing ground. Same for or in close for squid etc if possible. Never fished this area before so any general tips - dangers to watch for - what to expect etc appreciated. PM me if like if you rather keep it off the forum.
If anyone is down that way around that time and would like another boat as company happy to go out with them-providing the launch site is suitable for my boat.

Measuring pink snapper
Submitted by Rob b on Sat, 2013-11-23 07:07How do you measure your pink snapper?
being up at shark bay talking to a fisheries volunteer doin research said they measure from nose to the inside the V.
We have always measured from nose to open tail seen others squeeze tail in and measure also, but as you would no the top of the tail is longer than the bottom. Why wouldn't they make it the same for everyone and do as the fisheries volunteer do to save confusion. From head to inside the v and change size limits to suit.
any info from the pro's on the site would be great, the old man has wanted this answered for a while

Submitted by petermac on Fri, 2013-11-22 20:00I was surprised how tough sombos were when I moved south from the Pilbara ( they are bloody tough) and then I started thinking YTK I haven't got one yet but what else is as tough on the end of your line compared to a n/w fish , at first I thought china man cod , but I thought nope sambo pulls harder , then I thought back to the days when you could fish in pond zero at Dampier salt and I found a tougher fish than a sambo ,,, its a milk fish they go of like a steam train lots of you blokes will shout me down but if you haven't done battle with a 10kg milk fish you don't realy know what a tough fish is

D'Entrecasteaux National Park
Submitted by fuzzy79 on Fri, 2013-11-22 19:46I am thinking about heading down to D'Entrecasteaux NP for a few days next week. Does anybody have any hot tips on places I should try fishing (land based)? Are the main target tailor and salmon? Any suggestions on the best spot to camp - I was thinking of Moores Hut as my wife would appreciate toilets...
Finally, I know you're not supposed to use quad bikes in a national park, but is that policed in the area? Any people have stories of whether or not rangers are actually out policing this.
Thanks

Flathead Question- Peel Harvey estuary
Submitted by crasny1 on Fri, 2013-11-22 12:20Might be a question that our trusted museum Ichthyologist Glenn Moore can answer, but why is there plenty of flatties in Perth water, in estuaries up and down the coast, but they are scarse in the Peel Area.
I find this perplexing and have often wondered, but never asked.
Cheers
Neels
PS I live in Bouvard, within a 100m walk of what I would have thought would be pritine flathead waters. Have never bothered trying because of that knowledge, but hoping I am wrong.
