Braid for popping

Looking to spool up my saragosa 18000 for exmouth.  It will get used GT popping, trolling and jigging.  Since Ive had a good run with the tournament accudepth in 40lb for spinning up there im looking at the 85lb for this.  My popping rod is rated for 100lb but jigging only 80lb.

Question is how much capacity will I need for popping?.  The saragosa should fit the 300m spool of braid in plus some extra so Im thinking of getting some cheap 50lb braid to go behind it.

Thoughts?

Exmouth 2012 Boys Trip Trophies

What do you think? It isnt serious, just for fun.

3 Trophies:
1.       “Exmouth Open 2012 Champion” (Mini Golf Winner)
2.       “Exmouth Billfish Competition 2012 Winner” (Longest billfish of the trip, marlin/sailfish)
3.       “Exmouth 2012 Horses Ass Award” (The person who makes the biggest idiotic of themselves, ie putting petrol in a diesel car, forgetting the keys, launching without putting the bung in)

1 Plaque

“Annual Exmouth Pilgrimage Fishing Champion” – This is a wooden plaque and each years winner gets their name added to it for that year (and gets to keep it in their house till the next year)

Fishing Champion is the person whose total of their longest Trevally,  Pelagic (excl billfish) and Demersal for the trip is the biggest. From memory last year there was 3 of us around the 3m mark (1.3m Mackie, 70cm Spangledy & 1m trevally).

Changing props

Hey guys ive got a 15hp mercury outboard and wanting to get more speed out of it,one of my mates mentioned getting a new prop with a higher pitch, which equals higher overall speed, just wanting to see if this is a good idea or a waste of time, if if uses more petrol and if anybody has put new props on to make their boat faster

Cheers Nick

Mussels with white wine and thyme

I am a huge chilli mussel fan and never thought I would taste anything that could come close, but this recipe has me cooking up a batch almost every weekend!

In a high sided saucepan combine the following:
1-2 sprigs thyme
1 bay leaf
5 parsley stalks (not the leaves)
2 sping onions chopped finely
4-5 white peppercorns
30 grams of butter or so - usually use a bit more...

Once the butter has fully melted and the spring onions have softened add a big splash (about 1/4 cup) of white wine - you should be drinking it whist cooking anyway. Throw in your mussels - bit more than a kg I guess - and cover with a lid.

Once steaming, shake the pan lots to get the sauce over the mussels, pretend you are on masterchef and do it with some flair!

Pull the mussels out once they are opened and cooked with some tongs and place in your serving bowl.

Really quickly, throw in another lot of wine (same as before) and simmer with no lid to reduce, adding about 50 grams more butter until it thickens a bit.

Then strain the liquid onto the mussels - I don't worry with a sieve here as I like the stronger taste - and sprinkle some finley chopped parsley over the top. Serve with some nice bread and a sh*t load more white wine.

Bloody beautiful.

Anyone fishing this week/weekend? Perth area

Hello!

I was just wondering if anyone is fishing this week or weekend at all? im off all week now, and the weather is going to start calming after tonite over the next few days, so was thinking the recent stormy weather would create some new chanels :D

does anyone want to catch up for a fish?? or does anyone need a deck hand??

im near Golden Bay, so in between rocky and mandurah.

Cheers!

Lurking

Hi All, I've been lurking here for a while and thought it was about time to show my face. I enjoy a bit of fishing, and have done for the last 30-odd years, but I must say compared to some of the people on here I put myself firmly in the novice category! I generally get to fish land based around point peron with my 5 year old son (who is dead keen for around 30 minutes per session) and occasionally get out the back of Garden Island but haven't had much success out there yet.

Anyway, just thought I'd say hi and look forward to more discussions on everything fishy.

Cheers,

Browndog.

Rough weather + busselton jetty

I heard somewhere that the storms and rough weather sometimes brings better fishing to the jetty shortly afterwards. Can anyone local please comment on this? What am I to expect? Im definitely thinking of planning a trip using a baitunner for live baits some distance down the jetty. Comments are appreciated!

Squid

Hey. im just wondering can anyone suggest some good land based spots around freo area that i could hook onto some squid? Ive heard south mole is good also the rocks at south beach? Also is there anything else squidding requires other than i jig?

What size jigheads and brand

Heading to exmouth in september, alot of the ground is shallow of the beach on the westside should I use 1/16th of an ounce or 1/8th? Berkley jigheads with owner hooks these pretty sturdy anyone use a different brand? Any input would be appreciated
