What sounder?
Submitted by Jelle on Tue, 2012-05-15 07:41Hey guys,
I currently have a little humminbird 150 or somethin sitting on my runabout and I'd like to upgrade to something with some more pixels and colors. I'd be willing to spend about 500$, a little more if it is a plotter combo. Any suggestions?
Also, suppose I get a US model with a chartplotter, would I be able to use it in Australia? The lowrance HDS5 looks nice enough.
Thanks!

smokin
Submitted by inoz on Mon, 2012-05-14 19:49this was set up as a practice run for cold smoking and ended up using it for years. was an old kero fridge from the dump. big metal container in the ground with lid and a bit of down pipe. got coals in pit then loaded up with she-oak saw dust. finish off after with a little bit of heat under baffle plate to make the oil push out of fish then leave to go cold and that would seal up the fillets, then they would keep for ages. the aroma would bring people from all over the place or was that the word just got out and every bugger waiting on the fillets to be ready

Wilbinga/Flat Rocks
Submitted by metroLBfisher on Mon, 2012-05-14 17:44Thinking about heading up that way sometime in the near future, Never been to flat rocks so was just wondering if people had any tips or info that would be useful.
Judging by near maps im guessing flat rock is the place just south of the shacks along the beach?
Where is the best place to go from waneroo road, two rocks? any particular tracks that are easier the others?
And just wondering about the weed what type of winds does the weed start to come in im guessing westerlys? but if it was say south easterlys do you still have a problem?
As you can see i am quiet the rookie around that area as i have never been before so if anyone could help would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Jamie

10% off Lemax President Royal rods - check them out for this time of the year's land-based fishing
Submitted by Ben Derecki on Mon, 2012-05-14 15:01Hey guys
For the next seven days you can get 10% off the 9-12ft Lemax President Royal rods.
If you're looking for something to take down south chasing salmon, winter beach bashes for tailor and mullas or to take to the Steep or Quobba cliffs then these are great for these types of fishing.
The rods are light-weight and seriously tough as testified by a number of FW members (a couple of testimonies here and here).
All the details / specs on the rods can be found here with pricing as follows:
PRS 902H2 - RRP $153 now $135
PRS 100H2 - RRP $181 now $160
PRS 120H2 - RRP $215 now $190
This offer extends to interstate FW members as well, they can be freighted across the country pretty cheap.
The offer is only available through me and not through other tackle retailers, please flick me a PM / email for more information.

Seafox 257 Questions
Submitted by jdavies_99 on Mon, 2012-05-14 13:43Hi guys,
I am looking to purchase a Seafox 257 2001 with a evinrude 250hp.
On searching the forums I noticed a few guys had talked about owning one and was hoping to answer some questions.
First is the weight. Has anyone who has owned one actually thrown it over a weighbridge? I know the manufacturers put the dry weights etc etc but my experience in the past is that when you rig a boat up its weight is a world difference. I ask this as I was hoping for a real world weight so I can work out if my vehicle can legally tow it or not.
Second any general comments on the ride or quality. I know alot of the guys on the forums in the US bash them a bit but understandly they are grady owners and BW owners and we are talking different class of boats and price ranges. Any comments on running them in WA?
and lastly if anyone has ran a boat of similar specs approx what sort of fuel usage did you guys get?
Thanks
Jd

Fish smokers
Submitted by AlwaysFishin on Mon, 2012-05-14 10:27I am keen as to get into smoking fish. I have seen the steel box style smokers with the metho burner underneath used to good effect, and at around $100 it seems to be a good entry level smoker. Can anyone share their opinions on whether this style is the way to go, or should I be looking at the more expensive electric or gas style ones?

Stolen Stella Combo from Coral Bay!!
Submitted by hunterdive on Mon, 2012-05-14 08:26Gday crew,
I've just got back from an awesome 3 weeks at Coral Bay. I'll write a full report when I get all the photos back from all involved.
On the downside, I had a Stella 5000SW matched up to a Taiyro Nanospeed 10-12kg Combo stolen from the under gunwhale rod racks in the boat a week or so ago. It was a sweet setup. It had a 40mm Jigging Master knob on it in Gold and yellow PE 3 braid. The boat was a Boston Whaler 210 Outrage.
I've been going there for years and had no problems leaving gear in the boat, not anymore!! If anyone sees this combo for sale on other forums or on Gumtree etc please let me know. The low life must of known what to look for because you would have to get into the boat to see it. I have reported it to the Resort management and Exmouth Police.
I had landed a 2m+ Sailfish on Jig with this combo days before, which was quite memorable, (I'll get some pics up soon) so it has sentimental value for that.
thanks all
Jared

Guilderton Ray
Submitted by bulltrain on Sun, 2012-05-13 23:51Gday im a Long time reader first time writer,
Headed North of Perth for a good fish on thursday after work got canned early, was stoked!
Was keen for some herring and tailor action but was set on getting my first decent mulloway. Fishing around the guilderton area i got plenty of herring and tailor but no sign of a mulloway yet.
Saturday night and i was joined by a few mates. Caught a heap of herring and Tailor right on sunset. Was happy with a decent feed but still keen on catching something bigger. Hooked onto a ray that had some powerful runs but got him onto shore in about 20 mins.
The other two fellas hooked onto 3 mulloway around 30-45 cm between them. I was happy to see some mulla action even though they were small.
Not long later i was burleying up when my rod started zinging. This thing was big! Had huge powerful runs (almost to the mono backing) and i thought i may not have a chance of stopping it.
After some pretty intense runs and some hardocre arm pumping we managed to see it 20m from shore. This was a ray just playing with us. He gave us a wave with his wing and then took off towards Africa again.
More and more powerful long runs and then suddenly he turned into a rock. Just wouldnt budge at all. The other boys had had a few by now and were keen to call it a night but i wanted to get this big boy in.
After trying to get him to move for ages and some serious winching we finally saw him come though the wash. 3 hrs of sore arms back and legs was now worth it as i got to see such a beast up close. A few happy snaps (On the phone sorry about the quality and in the excitement i left me headlamp on) and some high fives we sent him on his way. An awesome feeling after a long workout!
Was using a Mako 12ft Heavy Action Spin Rod
Penn 950ssm with 50lb Fireline
10/0 hook with half a herring

Under water lighting
Submitted by Oracle on Sun, 2012-05-13 17:52Hi all,
Im just tossing up between Seablaze3's or OceanLed for some underwater LED's for the boat. The Seablaze3's are cheaper but as we all know, sometimes spending a little more is better. Howver, this is also not always true.
Does anyone here have these actual lights or know someone who does? Which are brighter/less probmatic and if it was your boat, would you choose?
I'll be going into the larger size 1/2 and 1/2 with blue and white.
Thanks
