Jurien Bay Fishing
Submitted by Graeme76 on Fri, 2012-01-06 07:32What's the landbased fishing like at Jurien Bay, as in at the jetties & off the marina walls in the town itself? Itching to get up that way for a fish & this wind would make our usual (more isolated) spot very hard work if not impossibe to fish. Lacking a 4x4 so have to stick to good roads.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Mercury in fish
Submitted by Abz on Fri, 2012-01-06 00:10Hi everyone,
Anyone here know much about mercury in fish? What would you avoid eating too much off, I have heard that species high up in the food chain have high levels of mercury things like tuna, sharks etc. is this the case with all fish? Or is it if you have coal mines or Plants around or some chemical plants around then this could cause it.
Interested to hear more about it because some websites say to limit your fish intake to once a week
Thanks

Fishing Steep Point
Submitted by snapper on Thu, 2012-01-05 21:51I have fished Shark Bay for several years , generally off Turtle Bay and Dampier Reef.I have been very lucky and have never been blown out but I know that some trip I will.In all the years going up there I have never given fishing Landbased off Steep Point a
second thought.
What set ups do you use for fishing off Steep for chucking poppers and lures .Interested in hearing about rods selection and lengths to suit my saltigas.I have an 8' Pe4-6 for chucking poppers from the boat but not sure if its long enough for land based.
It will only be day trips or maybe an overnight trip as we usually have a house in Denham.
Cheers Vince

Help! Mercury 2 stroke Outboard playing up.
Submitted by TGMitchell on Thu, 2012-01-05 21:50Ok, ok - its a Mercury (it was on the boat when I bought it). 1991, 90 HP, 2 stroke, had rebuild and service a few months ago.
So, I'm coming back in today and the trottle starts playing up - it doesn't want to stay at one speed - it groans its arse off then builds up momentum then wants to go full tit. So I'm spending forever speeding up and slowing down, looking like a knob. After doing that for a while, it doesn't want to rev up at all - will only go dead slow and if I try to speed it up it coughs and splutters and wants to die. So I pull up and fish for a bit - turn it off for half an hour. After that I start it back up and its right as rain..... for a while, then the whole process starts all over again....
I checked throttle friction, linkages, fuel - apart from that I don't know much about outboards. When I washed it down later I noticed there was some fishing line wrapped up in the prop - so I've got a job to do tmw... but it doesn't really seem like that'd be enough to cause that much drama...
My knowledge of car engines is suggesting a fuel delivery issue, blocked fuel filter or something.
Any ideas....?

Boat sank
Submitted by blitzed on Thu, 2012-01-05 21:00I saw a guy on the news tonight who I met about 12 or so years ago in Exmouth. Him his mate and two kids were lucky, boat caught on fire, he set off the eperp, chucked on the life jackets and jumped over with the esky. He is one of those cool under pressure type of guys who was a brilliant freediver, pig hunter back then. He said the boat sunk like a stone and his poor mate had a lure hooked in his leg with the line and rod attached to the boat. Im so glad that they are ok, it must be horrible to be in a situation like that. He bought the boat off his sister two weeks prior.

All Fished Out
Submitted by Noddy on Thu, 2012-01-05 20:22
Aargh... T'was truly a pleasure to sail upon THE BLACK PEARL, Reaping the endless bounty of the salty brine, Tapping Rotto booty on sou-west wine, Written apologies (scotto) and the refund of fines (fisheries). Aargh.... Aargh alas, 'Tis True of the curse The curse that will turn the strongest man to something else, the scourge of all wild men and their mates, causing the inevitable destruction of all fishing partnerships, WOMEN.... .... AND THEIR NEEDS.... Aargh.... Aargh alas I've yet to meet my singing siren and neigh have I been allured by songs of fair maidens, Simply, I stink of fish and me ain't one to be fancy with the ladies, If ye get me drift, I like to fish and that's it, Spending some quality time with a school of snapper is much more appealing to me than watching neighbors with the kids. To be standing side by side with your best mates having the time of our lives is just priceless.... Aargh... Until the wife hears how much your boat is actually worth.... Aargh...... FAARK.....!!!!! Aargh..... Truly we are at worlds end, and alas it is much worse, THE BLACK PEARL and it's Pirate crew Are soon to be sailors without sails, The BIG BLACK ALI is to be sold, it's waypoints included, but her stories never told... 'Will be a sad, sad day to see the old girl go, BUT AS THEY SAY - SUCH IS LIFE.... ( If it was up to me I'd keep the boat and sell the wife ) So my fellow mulloway kings I have to say Thanks guys for not throwing me overboard, and it looks like we'll be back down at e-shed real soon.... LOVE YOUR WORK NODDY

fisheries at gracetown ramp today
Submitted by hezzy on Thu, 2012-01-05 18:35good to see the new mobile patrols out & about on the coast checking
had the guys stop & check us today at gracetown , seems it will be a bit of a more regular occurence
had one red hulled alli boat , come to within metres of the finger jetty , he spotted the guys doing there thing and promptly headed back out to sea around north point ........seems he needed to tidy up his boat ..........watched him from the top of north point car park , as he worked at something at the back of the boat .for five mins ...........then he tramped it back to the ramp
pity he saw the guys in uniform before he had tied up at the finger jetty ......his actions where incredibly suss
what he was doing who knows ?? but you just never know when you might get checked

Ive got a heap of gulp! But thinking of changing to snapbacks for longevity. My favorite ones are the jerk minnows in the 4" range.

Been hanging out for another fishing trip up there but the weather the last week has really hampered my opportunities. Is it really as bad as the weather reports say?? Is it really blowing hard on the coast?
Any info would be great as i'm busting to get out there for some landbased fishing.

Braid or Mono advice for Deep Sea Charter
Submitted by tobefished on Thu, 2012-01-05 08:59Hi all,
So im going out charter fishing this weekend with a few mates on charter boat. Can anyone tell me how they been going on Mills charter lately... Looking at an overcrowed boat of about 28 people at the moment unless a few more people go and they may take both boats out which will be fantastic!
Have read some older post which states some dissapoiting things in regards to bait etc etc.... So have decided to bring my own bait. Also do they provide any good hooks or isit best to provide my own hooks. Being the first time i fish for Dhufish would love to be one of the first 6 people to catch one so i can take it home so as much help would be appreciated in preparing for the charter.
Would you also recommend using braid or mono in depths of 80 - 100 meters and what lb line would you recommend. Currently have a 30lb reel spooled with mono. Is this enough or am i going to be in trouble :/
Currently taking:
15-24 kg boat rod
2 x reel (1 spooled with 30 lb and the other with 50 lb)
A block of mulies
A box of squid
4 x Premade rigs with Gamakatsu circle hooks size 7
Anything else i may need? Would like to increase my chances to hooking something big. Was thinking of getting some fresh whiting for bait, but can't find them at the moment or if i do find them they are no bigger than 10 cm....
Cheers in advance.

Aluminium 90m deg angle
Submitted by randall df223 on Wed, 2012-01-04 21:13Aluminium 90 deg angle - required for a slight boat modification. Anyone know where I can buy about a metre length? I want to use it to mount some vertical rod holders onto the side pockets immediately behind the seats to store rods (in leiu of a rocket launcher setup), but i need to extend my side pocket depth down towards the floor so i can lower the mounting points of the holders. i am thinking i will mount the angle on the bottom of the side pocket so the side is flush with the side of the pocket, and then mount the holders as low as possible. does that make sense?

Anyone going out on Thur 04/01
Submitted by whipasswaverunner on Wed, 2012-01-04 17:31Hi all, been looking at the wind forecast for the rest of the week, and it doesn't look the best but really want to get out there, say to the 35 - 40m mark.
What has it been like out there for those who have ventured out, as I read on here that seabreeze has had it wrong last 2 days.
Would it be lumpy out there and worth getting out for?
Cheers, and thanks in advance.
