mulla
Submitted by chriss on Wed, 2012-01-11 09:07i couldnt help but notice how many people are keen to catch a mulla on here, thinking of giving it a crack myself as it seems that it would be a very rewarding and great achievement. i just wanted to know if anyone actually eats them as they are good on the chew or whether its more just the fact of actually catching one? Cheers

Marron in the Warren?
Submitted by hookedacookey on Tue, 2012-01-10 19:18Just wondering if anyone has been to the Warren yet, thinking of heading down this year.
Curious on water levels, marron numbers and if there any trout or red fin to be had?
Stayed a couple of nights on heartbreak trail a couple of years back and saw many marron nets in the water,
Is this allowed as I thought these were snare only waters.

pissed off seals?
Submitted by fukos on Tue, 2012-01-10 18:37i was diving once again today and dove down to chase a fish and noticed out of the corner of my eye and it turned out to be quite a large seal staring at me and looking at my spear and flippers and what not as to say "what the fuck are you doing?" so i slowly waded backward to a rock and sat on it once i was up he popped his head up and just looked at me for a sec and i whacked the water with my spear and told him to piss off so he did, i know i probably shouldnt have but i really dont know what their like with people, it would be great if they were harmless cos their great creatures but then again i could have annoyed him by whacking my spear on the surface, just looking for some input.

Where to fish for bait
Submitted by lawndered on Tue, 2012-01-10 18:23Hey all
Well to some it may seem like a daft question, but if its possible i would appreciate some info on your bait gathering spots.
I fish out of Woodies, in my 5.5m tournament so its boating info that I am after.
Its a fact that all the shop bait is shit and at this time of year no really reliable to purchase, so do any of you guys get onto small baitfish on your way to your spot if so would you be kind enough to help me with some suggestions as to where and the gear you use.
I reguarly catch squid so thats not a problem, more interested if there are any good bait groundsfor small fish in or around the sound. Also what baitfish do you prefer and for say just alround bottom bashing and unwieghted drifting.
thanks for you info, look forward to the replies
Brad

Been dying to catch one for a long time now just havnt been rewarded yet there must be something im doing wrong or am i going to the wrong places?
Be much appreciated if someone could give me few tips or put me into the right direction.

Dhuies on livebait
Submitted by bradz on Tue, 2012-01-10 10:53Morning all
Just wondering if anyone has made the effort to use livies for dhuies. On a charter last year the operator had a tank of yakkas/scalies/yellowtail. They were mainly used as dead baits but some got sent over with a 6/0 through the nose and seemed to get a good hit rate.
You dont here much about using livies but thought I might give it a go. What are your thoughts.
Cheers

In my last 2trips out I have brought home large BA and baldies that have been full of roe. Obviously I could say now is the time for breeding due to my catches but just wondering if they are breeding late this year.

trolling speeds? What works?
Submitted by randall df223 on Mon, 2012-01-09 20:41My wife accuses me of trolling too slowly, and I think she is right. What speed do you troll at for spanish mackeral and tuna (talking shark bay here)? i have never gone much quicker than 5 knots, but i am thinking probably 8 - 12 knots might be better? thinking i will have four rigs, a deep diver (7m), mid water (2.5m), metal slice, and popper out the back at the time.
Thoughts?

Buying new reel
Submitted by Jimmy441 on Mon, 2012-01-09 16:49Hey guys, so yesterday I bought a new rod, it is a Shimano Starlo Classix 902 Shore Spin (5-10kg), I also bought a reel, which was a Mojiko KL6000, it was on some insane sale (from $80 to $20) so it was super cheap, but I think the reel is a bit too big for the rod. I plan to mostly use it on the beach.
So my question is; should I get a new reel to match this rod better? or should I get a bigger rod to match the reel? (Shimano Starlo Classix 1062 Surf Spin maybe? I really love the look and reel of these rods.)
I'm not sure what reels to be looking at, does anyone have any suggestions? Not looking to pay over $100. Also what line should I use for the reel I have? I have 17 pound Trilene on it atm but I think it is a bit too heavy.
