Rock lobster cooking time???
Submitted by crasny1 on Thu, 2012-01-12 18:42How long do you boil Fresh RL for. I have been in the Pilbara too long and have forgotten the time. Sad for someone who as a student lived on our baot at Rotto for all the summer holiday and ate cray almost everyday, plus other sea critters.
cheers

Has anyone used these as jigs?
Submitted by randall df223 on Thu, 2012-01-12 18:10
http://www.tackleworld.com.au/lures/optia-chrome-slice-lures.html
I was in a local tackle shop the other day and saw a larger version of these labelled as a lure / jig. I have a couple of mid-sized ones in my lure box, but i have only every used them as trolling lures.
Has anyone every used them as a jig? And if so, was it successful?

Whole tuna for shark baits. Where can I find them??
Submitted by Chris fish on Thu, 2012-01-12 17:15Hey guys just trying to find some whole tuna up to 60cm for shark baits. I'm going to have a look at the markets but I can see they will be costly so just asking around to see if I can find them elsewhere. Willing to pay up to $10 per fish if there is any out there. Was thinking little stripeys would be perfect but trying to find them isn't easy.

Advice on a 6kg trolling outfit
Submitted by bigdavet86 on Thu, 2012-01-12 15:16Entering the Kalbarri Classic this year and i want to get a 6kg outfit for trolling up some mackies, wahoo, tuna etc. We cleaned up 2 year ago but caught them all using our bottom bouncing gear, so not alowed at weigh in. It was our first comp we didn't really know the go with IGFA rules and all that. At this stage im thinking that a Tyrnos 8 or 10 would be the go, maybe a Tekota 500. Then can load it with pe3 an the missus can use if for bottom bouncing after the comp. Im just not too sure whats out there. I live out in the bush so not really in a position to go to a tackle store for any advice. I was thinking of possibly going for a spinning reel loaded with 6kg, whats people stoughts on trolling with spin outfits, and what would you recomend, for around $500, reel and rod??
Cheers
Dave

plenty of time to fish
Submitted by chriss on Thu, 2012-01-12 14:18So ive had alot of time on my hands these last 2 months as i crashed my dirtbike and busted my shoulder. i discovered a couple of weeks ago that i can still fish :) so i have been fishing the rockingham area everyday for the last 2 weeks with nothing to show but a few herring and sand whiting. pretty over this area so im thinking of going to some beaches further north for more of a chance for tailor. i dont have a 4x4 so it narrows it down a bit. im thinking floreat drain or city beach or something, has anyone fished these areas lately with any success as i just seem to be feeding the population of little fish down here. cheers

Exmouth Nightmare Trip!!!!!
Submitted by forbee4 on Wed, 2012-01-11 21:40We have unfortunately had to return prematurely from our big fishing trip to Exmouth because of a few..Mmm..minor issues
They would be, A F**king a fire blocking our way, A F**king cyclone about to dump it's water on our shit and A F**cking after flood that would probably prevent our return after our trip.
What LUCK hey.....so much for forward planning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 6 months in the planning, all tackle ready to go, excitement building and one hell of a long way to drive for F**KEN nothing and a head full of fishing dreams killed by Mother F**ken nature.......!!(bitch)
Ok, now that I have vented, here's the info I need please. We are targeting pelagics, mostly Mackeral and Tuna as they are (we were told) pretty prevelant this time of year here.
However, we will have to go in June/July now so are they in the area in sufficient numbers this time of year? I have been told that winter is more for bottom bouncing than trolling but at these lats I would have thought there would still be some surface excitement?
Anyone with serious knowledge of this area would be great because I tried to do my homework on this time of year but...yeah...SHIT HAPPENS(see above)!!!
P.S.
Special mention.
Thanks Carnarvon Caravan Park for the extra effort you put into getting us accomodation under such duress
Very special effort to Ray White real estate for understanding the situation and offering us our accom extension for the next year :)

naturaliste reef
Submitted by meglodon on Wed, 2012-01-11 21:40Has anyone fished the naturaliste reef area lately? Iv'e done a search and all the info is a bit dated, on the chart it looks a good place well isolated with a lot of deep water all around and the odd bit of reef near by.
Just wondering out aloud

Hybrid Shark found
Submitted by petervb on Wed, 2012-01-11 19:36Interesting reading,
'
Scientists have identified the first-ever hybrid shark off the coast of Australia, a discovery that suggests some shark species may respond to changing ocean conditions by interbreeding with one another.
A team of 10 Australian researchers identified multiple generations of sharks that arose from mating between the common blacktip shark (Carcharhinus limbatus) and the Australian blacktip (Carcharhinus tilstoni), which is smaller and lives in warmer waters than its global counterpart.'

some tips/tricks for cray diving?
Submitted by fukos on Wed, 2012-01-11 18:49does anyone have some handy tips and tricks for grabbing cray's whilst diving, ive personally heard that if you stick a mop (yes the mop used to clean floors!) under a shelf were they have taken shelter and brush it all over them the fabric that its made from sticks fast to their spikes and its as easy as that, never seen it done though.

Marron in the Warren?
Submitted by hookedacookey on Tue, 2012-01-10 19:18Just wondering if anyone has been to the Warren yet, thinking of heading down this year.
Curious on water levels, marron numbers and if there any trout or red fin to be had?
Stayed a couple of nights on heartbreak trail a couple of years back and saw many marron nets in the water,
Is this allowed as I thought these were snare only waters.

pissed off seals?
Submitted by fukos on Tue, 2012-01-10 18:37i was diving once again today and dove down to chase a fish and noticed out of the corner of my eye and it turned out to be quite a large seal staring at me and looking at my spear and flippers and what not as to say "what the fuck are you doing?" so i slowly waded backward to a rock and sat on it once i was up he popped his head up and just looked at me for a sec and i whacked the water with my spear and told him to piss off so he did, i know i probably shouldnt have but i really dont know what their like with people, it would be great if they were harmless cos their great creatures but then again i could have annoyed him by whacking my spear on the surface, just looking for some input.

Where to fish for bait
Submitted by lawndered on Tue, 2012-01-10 18:23Hey all
Well to some it may seem like a daft question, but if its possible i would appreciate some info on your bait gathering spots.
I fish out of Woodies, in my 5.5m tournament so its boating info that I am after.
Its a fact that all the shop bait is shit and at this time of year no really reliable to purchase, so do any of you guys get onto small baitfish on your way to your spot if so would you be kind enough to help me with some suggestions as to where and the gear you use.
I reguarly catch squid so thats not a problem, more interested if there are any good bait groundsfor small fish in or around the sound. Also what baitfish do you prefer and for say just alround bottom bashing and unwieghted drifting.
thanks for you info, look forward to the replies
Brad
