Rod to match up with Shimano Spheros 14000fb
Submitted by Pezdog on Thu, 2011-08-18 12:24Hi All
Looking to purchase a rod to match up to my Speros 14000fb to use while bottom bouncing etc. Don't really have a budget in mind but don't want to go all out.
The T-Curves look the goods but am not sure what model also any other gems that you can put me onto would be good.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Golden Ponds
Submitted by John the Pom on Thu, 2011-08-18 10:25I was thinking of going down to Golden Ponds maybe this weekend with the family if the wind doesn't get any worse.
I've done a quick search and the latest posts are from about a year ago. As the family wil be in tow, I was wondering if anyone could update me on things there, is it still $10 in and $10/kg for the fish? Which ponds for which fish and any techniques bait styles would be handy.
It would be good for the little'un not to have a dissapointing trip this time as his last 4 or 5 fishing trips out of have been disappointing and he's been getting disillusioned with fishing.
Any help would be appreciated cheers

Sounder / GPS question
Submitted by bruiser on Thu, 2011-08-18 07:21I'm asking this for a mate:
Basically I am caught in the dilemma of looking at a combo for space and $ reasons and after visiting several dealers in Perth over the last week the advice I was given is that the new Lowrance HDS broadband technology is as good as any other sounder on the market even with the standard 600w transducer and from what I have seen seems to be one of the better featured combo’s on the market. I am interested to know if the claims regarding quality of sounder are true or is it worth looking at getting a furono dedicated sounder, given that in reality most of my fishing will be in 20-100m of water?
I also looked at the Simrad NSS8 which runs the same sounder engine as the HDS but has a few more features, interested to know if anyone has compared the HDS and the Simrad.

Another new toy for the missus
Submitted by UncutTriggerInWA on Wed, 2011-08-17 18:52I snuck out for a fish today and took the new toy with me for a bit of a try. Apart from hitting a school of Buffies and some pretty hungry Herring there is not a lot to report. Please take a look at some of the pics I took on the way in. No wonder we like to get "out there". Now we have the DSLR I can see the compact digital camera gathering cobwebs. The make is a Nikon D-3100. Nice entry level DSLR and it came with 2 lenses.

Tailor on the reefs
Submitted by baders on Wed, 2011-08-17 11:59Hey there you lot. Been in WA for a few years now and finally looking at buying a boat to get out fishing. I sold my trusty old Cruise Craft Reef Raider before I moved over and am now looking at alternatives over here in the 20 to 30k bracket.
My question goes to fishing. Back in Port Macquarie, I used to love heading out to the rocks and bommies and trolling for Tailor with my own home made lures. It was one of the most fun little sessions you could have when the greenbacks were on. It was simple, quick and always produced a feed. It also helps that I love fresh caught Tailor !! Do we have the same sort of Tailor fishing over here ? Do the reefs off Ocean Reef and Mindarie produce Tailor like this ?

Ally paint oxidization
Submitted by nev on Wed, 2011-08-17 08:43Just noticing on the 30 month old boat that the paint around the windscreen is starting to bubble in quite a few areas where the stainless bolts are used to secure it. There is no sign of Durolac used and everywhere else it seems to be used. Any suggestions on what the best thing to do? Cheers!

Gday from Christmas Island
Submitted by JohnF on Tue, 2011-08-16 21:12Hey guys
Me and TimVB are both currently sitting in Flying Fish Cove on Chrisrtmas Island, sucking back a beer and analyising the days fishing.....
We have had a top trip, lost a lot more fish than landed, and definately lost the best 5 or so fish to a combo of angler error, tackle fault (partly angler error), sheer bad luck and a shark or three, but still got some really nice fish and are now completly knackered from popping, stickbaiting and jigging for the past 5 days. Apparently 5 weeks in the gym was not enough!!! A few short fishing days to go as the weather has turned a bit pear shaped.
Mark from Shorefire has been a champion and a great host, well worth the effort to get here.
Will put up a post on the weekend. Wheres that beer.........

Talking Cricket
Submitted by UncutTriggerInWA on Tue, 2011-08-16 18:46Has Steve Smith ever done anything other than lick Micheal Clarke's ass (and probably his missus)? This guy is an average bowler to say the least. I wouldn't classify him as a spinner. More a waste of space LOL. I get really agitated when he bats as he really can't do that either and someone needs to show him how to get his gear on right. He annoys the F out of me with his constant pad adjusting and his little walks.
Am I being to hard on the pretty boy?

Any Tuna around Perth Metro?
Submitted by glastronomic on Tue, 2011-08-16 08:12I am wondering if there are any tuna fish being caught at the moment off shore at Perth Metro!
I understand that this is complete secret Mens buisness and only can be whispered, but a yes or No whisper would be great.
A friend of mine had a wicked session out of Sydney last weekend.
So, we are keen!

Star drag versus Lever drag
Submitted by Batty on Mon, 2011-08-15 19:36Was after some advice on the advantages/ disadvantages between star drag and lever drag for bottom bouncing, fairly new to all this and only have a cheap star drag and was looking at upgrading soon,
I've not used a lever drag before and wondered how quick you can put them into freespool and pay line out when you start to get a nibble, I find it better if a bite is developing not to let the lead move, seems to be alot more productive on hook ups
Any advice much appreciated

Simrad Chirp sounder
Submitted by obiwun32 on Mon, 2011-08-15 18:32I have just ordered the new Simrad BSM-2 and a Simrad NSE display to use with a chirp transducer, has anyone used the Simrad chirp gear yet and what transducer did you go for?
I am replacing one of the Raymarine C-series displays on my boat to install this new gear because I wasn't happy with the deep water performance of the 1kw DSM and transducer. I have tried both the airmar M260 and the Airmar TM260 transducers and my bottom reading falls apart at about 200m. I am hoping that the new Chirp technology will help me get good readings in 2-400m but I don't know if i will have to step up to the Airmar R299 2-3kw chirp transducer. Does anyone have experience with the Airmar M265 chirp or the TM265 chirp transducers?
Cheers
Toby
