Enhancing the Richtor Setup
Submitted by UncutTriggerInWA on Wed, 2011-08-24 17:22Sick of seeing the Richtor get smashed and no hookup? Having hooked up are you pissed off that it takes 15 minutes to get the fugging huge single trebble out of the mouth? After finally getting the Treble out are you pissed off that the fish is pretty much dead?
I am!!!
This is my effort to change the setup. A small section of wire trace to a top assist hook and a similar hook at the tail.

Coral Bay to Broome
Submitted by pitbull on Wed, 2011-08-24 15:51Hiya Fellas. We are heading up to Coral Bay in October for two weeks fishing, fishing and more fishing and thought we might use about 4-5 days to go and have a look up at Broome. Any thoughts about good fishing spots in Broome? How long would the journey between Coral Bay and Broome take?
Thanks and appreciate any advice

Which is best - Airmar 600w Transom or In Hull?
Submitted by Braxi on Wed, 2011-08-24 04:07Just looking at getting a 600w tranny for a HDS8 for my GPS and backup sounder. Looking at the In hull as they dont require any bolting to the boat and are not going to cop anything hitting them in the water. The GPS should be good enough to pick up the speed of the boat so only the temp would be missing compared to the transom mount. Any ideas?

Help me buy a boat!!!
Submitted by Troy Summers on Tue, 2011-08-23 16:11Gday peeps...
Im definitely back into my fishing after such a long drought, Ive been on a promise to buy a boat from the 'cheese n kisses' for about 6 years now... anyway, the time has come, she has her Landcruiser... and 'she who must be obeyed' thinks a boat would look reel good behind it.
Ive been begging for years to just get a tinny cheap and go and get a feed of herring, whiting, squid etc and upgrade once Ive got some experience, and after going out over the last few weeks in my mate neighbours 10 ft 6hp tinny Im over it(that saved a few bucks hey)... Im budgetting between 5 and 10 grand and hope to have something for the summer season, but my question is what do I want... Its gonna be my first boat, now before I get told to just get a tinny(or finance)... I do have a lifetimes experience as my Dads(and many others) deckie and have the utmost respect for the sea... Im picking a boat in this price range that will only require me to improve my 'experience' 'knowledge' etc before I go out further.... Im in a position to save this kindve money over the next few months and really dont want to get finance for my ultimate dream boat just yet... I wanna make sure it isnt just a thing that sits on a trailer in my driveway that only gets used twice a year first(I doubt it... but I wouldnt be the first that said this).
Basically Im thinkin at first its just something stable enough for a little bit of chop when I wanna go fishing in the sound or around penguin island etc... or a family cruise in the river when the fireworks are on...
But I would like a boat thatll get me to rotto... or a bit further as I get better, What do I want
Im thinking at least 18ft, but whats better, inboard/outboard.. fibreglass/aluminium... Evinrude/Mariner/Johnson
I aint going for a half cabin cause I want to fish with room...
What kindve sounder/GPS etc are really worth the massive outlay
Where do I start???

upset at penn
Submitted by black gen on Tue, 2011-08-23 06:57i am a little pissed to say the least.
about 2 months ago i bought a penn 15kg boat rod, yes not the ducks nuts but its all i required as it was like a 5th reserve rod. and as luck would have it i needed to use it on our recent trip to coral bay. second drop i felt the rod slowly load up which was the bottom...i applied a little bit of pressure and BANG! the rod snapped in 3 places. when i spoke to bcf where i bought it from they informed me that penn would not swap the rod therefore i am stuck with a rod broken in 3 places...
what a joke.....i dont like complainin about companies in public but seriously..that is b grade for such a large company...
any thoughts on what i can do???

Reel screaming -- The best sound
Submitted by crasny1 on Mon, 2011-08-22 21:13Well can I say one thing negative about my new Stella 8000 SW. It doesn't sound like its even working when its screaming on the drag. Mrs Saragosa 8000 makes a great noise. Not the Stella.
The best reel scream I have ever heard (keep it clean fella's) is the Alutecnos 1Speed Gorilla.
Made me think what is the best sounding reel under pressure?

Deck wash intakes
Submitted by randall df223 on Mon, 2011-08-22 20:00i am looking at installing a deck wash pump, probably a jabsco parmax 4 or similar. i don't want to drill any holes in the hull for intakes and un-necessarily introduce a risk of split hoses and sinking! therefore i am thinking i will mount an intake on the transom (i can do this without drilling into the hull). I am looking at a stainless steel live bait tank intake that consists of 1/2 inch tube that curves forward so that water is forced up with the movement of the boat through the water (hope that make sense!). my question is to those who have installed (or know about) deck wash systems is, will the water pressure introduced by this sort of intake adversely affect the operation of a self-priming pump?

Esperance gets marine safety boat
Submitted by bod on Mon, 2011-08-22 19:54A 7.5 metre former hydrographic survey vessel has undergone a full refit with latest navigation and radio equipment and been dispatched to Esperance to carry out DoT's marine safety compliance and education patrols along the Esperance coast.
"The vessel represents a significant boost to DoT's marine safety compliance resources in the Esperance region which is known for its demanding coastal environment. With an estimated top speed of up to 38 knots, it will also minimise response times to incidents and emergencies on the water.
The vessel, known as PV10, has been permanently relocated to Esperance and reflects DoT's commitment to providing a modern patrol fleet across WA.” said Garry Wilson, DoT Regional Transport Officer.
Mr Wilson said marine safety compliance patrols were important in highlighting the need for people to make safety the priority while on the water.
“Regional Transport Officers spend a great deal of time talking to boat owners educating them about safety on the water,” Mr Wilson said.
“The upgraded vessel will greatly assist in reinforcing the safe boating message and conducting safety checks of vessels on the water.”

iPhone GPS apps.
Submitted by Lastchance on Mon, 2011-08-22 16:21Hypothetically, if someone was on your boat with an iphone that has a GPS app installed (Navionics/Navman etc), is it possible that the phone has recorded the days' travel even if it isnt 'illuminated' ie, phone is locked and placed on the dash but still on?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
