not sure what it is. Looked through a few books without luck. Was a quiet day with a North wind. High water at the ramp.

I've done the search on here for Bremer Bay and got some usefull information, but it all seems a couple or so years old. I'm heading down in July (4 - 11) and I guess it should be reasonably busy with the school holidays and all but I'm keen to get some fishing in. Anyone been down there fishing land based recently and would like to share their experiences fishing. I've got a 4WD so I can access pretty much anywhere (hopefully). I hear Forsters Beach is a goer but can be tough going getting in and out but then again that info was from some years old posts.

I would love to get the misso on to a salmon from the rocks or beach if they are still hanging around down that way..

It happened to a mate on a trip we had to Gnaraloo 2 years ago. Names have been changed to protect the retarded.…

A mate (Jimmy) towed his 8m jackman, with his 100 series Brunswick 6.4L landcruiser to gnaraloo. We met up at the start of the king waves kill sign, but as my boat was lighter to tow, I ended up leaving him behind, and it took me approx. 2 hours from there to the 3 mile, where I would be based for the next 2 weeks. 4 other families were with us, and most (jimmy included) were only there for 1 week. Jimmy’s misso has a ball to attend the following Saturday in Perth, that she has organised…

As he pulled his big Jackman through the camp a good 2 hours later, he managed to shred the side of one of his trailer tyres on the rocks on the driveways. No big deal, shit happens… everyone sets up camp, and we crack a few beers, and settle in. weather looks good for the next few days.

A couple of days later, he takes his boat out with some of the fellas, and I take the misso and kids out in my boat a few hours later. We bump into him on the water, when he asks if I have any fresh water in my car. Turns out his radiator on his cruiser has sprung a leak, and is losing water. We cruise back together, and due to approaching bad weather over the next few days, I retrieve my boat. We try pull the big jackman out on the trailer, but she’s too heavy on the sand, and the cruiser is losing water fast out of the radiator and cooking. I disconnect my boat, and give the jackman a pull, no good…… Another car strapped to mine, still no good…. 3 cars, 2 hours, multiple bog matts, and a lot of bystanders helping later, we get the big jackman onto the high and dry. No big deal….. Shit happens.

I hook up my boat and head back to the 3 mile. Jimmy hooks up the jackman, and slowly cruises to the homestead, to ask for some radiator water… he returns to the camp a good 3 hours later, cruiser hissing and blowing steam. He dropped the boat up in the main carpark. We let her cool for a bit, and pull the radiator out. She’s got a mysterious gouge at the top….. No big deal, shit happens….. Luckily, one of the boys is leaving the next day, and offers to take it to Carnarvon to get repaired.

Next day, STRONG northerly winds whip the camp into a dust storm. Our mate leaves Gnaraloo with the radiator to get repaired. We all start on the beers early, as there is not much to really do otherwise. Throughout the day, the wind picks up even more, and one by one, the camps start packing up, anticipating a big storm approaching. We hit the sack early (after day drinking all day from 9am), and Jimmy opts to not sleep in his dodgy tent, and sleep in the cabin of the boat…… a good move….. The storm hits HARD that night. I had to readjust guy ropes and tie the tent to the car all through the night, as 100km/ph gusts and 100mm of rain tear through the camp. Jimmy’s tent gets flattened and essentially destroyed, and the next day he removes over 100L of water from inside the tent. All his and his misso’s belongings, bedding, clothes, etc are saturated. No big deal…. Shit happens. We all spend the next day recuperating, and repairing our camps. Jimmy erects his shelter, but will sleep in the boat from now on.  

We also start wondering about how Jimmy’s radiator is going, as we had not yet heard from our mate that took the radiator to Carnarvon. The pay phone at the 3 mile camp wasn’t working, and there was no internet available. No big deal… shit happens….  We drive to the homestead to try their phone, and after many attempts at contact, we finally get an email from him…… The radiator is irreparable, and as its not a standard landcruiser’s engine (it’s a Brunswick diesel), will require a new one from perth. Our mate has secured the correct radiator (the last one available in Perth apparently), and its on a truck to Carnarvon, available the next day! Bewdy! Could things be getting better….. like fark will they…

One of the other boys agrees to drive jimmy to Carnarvon the next morning, to collect his radiator, but they return 30 minutes later….. Turns out  the shire of Carnarvon has closed the main road, due to the amount of water on the road from the storm! A possible $1,600 fine if you’re caught driving on the closed road…. Shit happens, but this is starting to become a big deal……

Discussions that day, the boys opt to leave in the dark of the next morn, and run the risk of the fine. Jimmy has to leave by no later than the next day, as his misso has the large Ball she organised and has to attend. They make their getaway, and return around 5 hours later with the radiator, and also a replacement spare tyre for the trailer (that he shredded on day one). The radiator fits like a glove, and gets plumbed back in. just before they are about to give her a test start, one of the fellas spins the fan by hand to check its clearance, and thank golly he did, as one of the fan blades was ROOTED. It was bent, and it was the one that caused the damage to the original radiator. It would pass on the wrong side of the shroud, and gouged the top of the radiator open! We trim the blades and start her up, and she purrs like a kitten. They throw all their shit in the boat,  we fare them well, and they leave to trek back to Perth.

my trip gets remarkedly better from here. The weather turns it on for us, and I catch BULK fish and drink heaps of cold beer, with just the misso and kids, and 1 other mate and his family. We obviously don’t have contact with the other guys, as there’s no internet, etc at gnaraloo. Its not until we get into Carnarvon a week later, that we find out the rest of jimmys trip disaster…..

as he left the 3 mile, he shreds his brand new replacement spare tyre on the trailer. No big deal…. Shit happens….  He swaps it out, but crawls back to Carnarvon to get another spare tyre. Once at the tyre shop, the mechanic informs him that every single one of his trailers hubs are rooted, and he urges him to fix them before driving back to perth. Jimmy does not have time (or after the week he’s had, the patience) for this, and tells the mechanic to swap the tyre only, which he does.

Jimmy decides to not travel too fast with potentially dodgy hubs, so the 9 hour trip from Carnarvon to perth takes closer to 16 hours…. and as he approaches the great northern hwy intersection at Muchea at around 2am the next morning, he starts to see the end of the disastrous week he’s had, and starts to see the light…. Although it turns out its not quite the light he first thought it was…..

Another car approaches them from behind, flashing his lights, and bleeping his horn. They pull over….. turns out one of the wheels had fallen off jimmy’s trailer about a kilometre before, and has smashed head on into this guys car! No big deal…. Shit happens…. Except THE GUY IS AN UNDERCOVER COP…. Ouch.

They exchange details, and the cop leaves his car there to be collected by the tow truck. Jimmy is well over everything now, so opts to leave the boat where it is, take the misso home, and collect it later that morning.

As he unhitches it, a banged up, piece of crap car pulls up to him, and the driver with his finest meth-fuelled tone, asks “whats going on mate”? Jimmy hesitates to try and explain whats going on, but captain meth-head is already beaming his glass-barbie eyes onto the $100k boat, loaded with quality fishing and camping gear, and trailer with the missing wheel being stranded on the side of the road. Methy mc meth-meth starts to ring his methy mates…. Jimmy can not leave this boat here……

He calls his dad and brother in law, over 1.5 hours away, and now around 3am. They drive with a trailer to Jimmy, and unload everything they can into the trailer, to lighten the boat trailer’s load. They then take his misso back home, and Jimmy CRAWLS back to Perth on 3 wheels and at 40kmph. He arrives back to his house approx. 7am. They sleep, and then attend the ball later that night. it is here jimmy’s story ends….

except it starts back up again, when a month later he spends close to $2,000 repairing his trailer....

no big deal.... shit happens!

jimmy and his misso are still together. they will never camp again.

Heading up to Exmouth again in just over a week. Chasing anybodys must have landbased lures for up that way. Had never really been interested in landbased game fishing until last year when the northerly winds were horrendous and I couldn't get the boat in the water once. With nothing else to do I just flicked lures around off the shore and didn't do great but managed a few trevally, queenies and the long tom were a pest. Got smoked by a few fish as well. I had a lot more fun doing this than I expected so this year I want to be a bit more prepared in case the wind doesnt play ball again.... Only issue with the northerly is there is just about nowhere to get out of it so hopefully if it is blowing up this time it is from the south and I can try a few different spots. 

My most succesful lure of choice last year was just a Halco Twisty in chrome which I dont mind because they are soo cheap. But are there any other must haves for landbased fishing up that way?

Well, seeing as I'm not on the voting panel for the Shorecatch comp, here's my long weekend fishing story / entry - albeit sort of non-eventful yet sort of eventful, lol.

As you saw a couple of weeks ago, got a new second hand donk put on due to the old one well and truly dying and was hoping that things would just go smoothly but had an inclination that it might not due to old fuel.

Had been quite a while since last mission so I was quite excited to take the missus and dog out to see what we could find.  Started a treat, got the ropes off and start reversing off and bammo, stalled.  Couple more times, more stalling.  Knew it was a fuel issue even with new filters etc so started draining the filter which slowly allowed more revs and longer between stalls.  Ended up dropping a couple of liters and we were away, albeit rather nervous about how far we'd get.  Anyway, rev's up and the new old girl is humming and we're off to the islands.

First stop was Pirate's cove for a quick snack and run around for the dog, being her first trip.  Trolled some squid jigs behind West Lewis and the water was dirty as the dogs farts given the rain the week before, so expected it to be very hard going catching anything.  Gave it a good half an hour and decided to cruise to the back of the next island to do some light tackle popping for queenies and trevs, second cast and the missus is followed in by a hooter squid.  Couple of quick casts and we had half a dozen good squid and had probably lost as many with the squadrons being flighty and only being in one small area.  Gave it another half an hour and it appeared the black water had scared them off, so up onto the beach for a bbq and swim (freezing if you're a northerner) so was pretty glad the water was too dirty for spearing.

Anyway, couple of cans down and we had figured we'd done pretty well given it looked like we weren't even going to get off the ramp.  Headed back past the little hot spot with no more squid in sight and moved down another couple of KM's and got onto another half dozen right before the tide turned (very timid).  Decided to call it a day as it was nearing 4 and still 30mins to the ramp, hummed back to within 3nm of the ramp when the steering locked up with an issue in the helm.  When you don't use your boat as much as you should, it definitely has a way of telling you!!  Got it back to the ramp with a bit of force and tilt adjustment and just general willing it to do what was needed.

Anyway, rang Matt at Australia Wide and he said have it in to me today and I will get it sorted (even with the yard full of boats) and I will get it back to you by the weekend - legend!

Was a pretty stressful way to release stress which in the end resulted in some less stress and a belly full of squid rings and a couple of packs for the freezer.  All in all successful and weeded out a few more gremlins to get 'little beauty' back to some former glory.

I have never fished Jurien in winter and would like to get away in the next school holidays (early July) for a few nights.  I normally fish the area in April and find it fishes well from boat and/or land.

Can anyone help me with information weather wise in winter? 

I guess if the weather is nasty during our booked times, I can leave the boat in Perth and fish off the jetty.

Hopefully the weather will be kind and I can chase some snapper in the bay and dhuies out wide.

Decided to start trying OR ($11 per day WTF) and steaming back in on the south lead line I came close to two pots with dark orange floats and then another one another half a click further along.

Can/should I report these as a navigational hazard as they were literally sitting on the line?

Hi peeps. I’m going to be heading to Cervantes for a camping trip with friends and was thinking about going up on Thursday 18th June to do a fishing charter or maybe staying on the Sunday to do one then. I can only see one fishing charter for Cervantes. Can anyone recommend a good charter that way? I need some more fish for my freezer! Photo for bragging purposes! Lol.

I am looking for a camping inflatable. We have looked into tinny's and they are not practicle for what we want right now (protected inshore waters).

My old man had a 3.1m Quicksilver that he got in the mid 90's and only recently died (the glue failed) and a mate has a Bris inflatable. 

My brother in law is going halves in it (as we both do the same sort of adventure) so I am looking for recommendations on fold up inflatables? The majority seem to be fixed floors or priced beyond my once or twice a year use budget.

 Just wondering if anyone knows the conditions of beach up that way headin up solo in few days cheers .                                                                                                         The beach south of lucky was easy driving but was only few spots could camp on beach without havin to camp in dune with a decent gutter i could find but i didnt  drive that far. weather was perfect whole time .Got 2 mullas in the first 3 casts then couple more later that night with few tailor Woke up an landed another mulla just as moon was setting then hooked alot bigger one that managed to shake the hooks after 5 minute fight then got little shark hour later an  then went dead nothin that day night or next morn so packed up early an bailed back

Ok so after being stranded in Philippines for the last 4 months now we are here in Perth to catch up with my parents and join there Grey Nomad jorney .We have only just completed our last 14 days Iso so now we are free and hanging for a feed of fish .I see there have been some Good Green Backs and Snapper being caught but i have no i dea where to go .We are only land based so any info will be awesome. 

 Well it's back on Wooo! Anyone else on here heading up around the 9th June? One other member will be so hopefully some fishing bullshit and wines at night. Hoping to hit the magical 100m mark again.

Just wanting to have a spare set up on board just in case I've had a gutful of the 16oz sinker and smelly bait on my hands.

Traditionally fish up to 30m and would like to try SP or jigs up to approx 120g ish.

Heaps of online info out there with regards to reels, lines and rods.

Pretty well decided the reel - Shimano 4000 size.

With the rods, there are 2 types which are online but I'm struggling to find them locally to see what they are like:

ROD 1

NS Black Hole S583 (5'8") 

PE 3

40-160g jig

ROD 2

Storm Gomoku Kaiten blue (6') - white rod with blue grips.

PE 1-3

up to 160g jig

Also, would PE 3 line be a general rule of thumb for offshore demersals?

Both are online from the east and super cheap as they are older stock.  Hoping some people have or know about these 2.

chasing some info on weather and Ningaloo fishing in June. For the last 6 years we have hit the station in April but due to the restrictions we missed out this year... just booked 3 weeks in June! It looks a lot cooler in June (normally we sweat our balls off!!) should we expect much rain or a difference in the wind patterns?

Do the cooler water temps affect the fishing at all? I would assume less Bills and more tuna? Do the mackies and hop slow down at all? Do the demersals move in closer as the water cools? Not asking for spots (I have plenty!) just some general info so we are correctly prepared for this year!
