How far offsore do you need to fish in Broome to have success?

Hi guys, planning a trip to Broome for June/July next yr. A friend and I will be hiring a boat for 2 weeks to chase some Sails/spaniads/other pelagics and anything else we can get onto. One of the questions i need answered is how far offsore do you need to be to see some of these fish in the boat? 2 nautical miles is the standard distance allowed for hired boats to be able to go offsore, however for a fair bit extra $$ you can hire a boat that is allowed 5 nautical miles. 2 nautical miles doesnt seem enough to me.. what do you guys think? Iv never fished Broome so i have no idea what to expect, hopefully you guys can help.

Thanks in advance.

PB soft plastics pinkie

It's taken a while but finally got a good one...69cm on a 5" snapback on ten pound gear in 10 metres of water. Went like a train, kept lunging for the anchor rope and boy what a relief to finally land it. Followed up 45 minutes later with another one at 65cm. Ten year old managed a couple of mini sambos (around 40cm) and my oldest boy got a just undersized spotted mack on a Gulp nuclear chicken. A great afternoon with the light gear!

6 days to go!

Not long to go now. Montes here we come. The last 6 months have been a drag and it seemed like the day was never going to get here. But finally the count down has almost come to an end.

5 days of nothing but fishing, drinking and shit stirring. Time to start packing the gear so we can get out of this cold hell hole.

Last years trip was a blast, and I'm expecting this years trip will be even better. Here''s a couple of pics from our last Blue Lightning trip (hope this works).

Jurien Bay Seasport Charters 29th November

After a 1:30am wakeup to pick up flangies then up to John's to load up the car and were on the road by 3. The drive up the new road took just over 2 hours so we had time to pick up some brekky from the bakery. On arrival at the boat there were a couple of old boys who were coming with us, and it was decided that it was us 4 on artificials vs. them on bait. After the performance of McArthy's on our last charter we figured we had them covered...

We were heading up to the 60m mark so had plenty of time for a troll on the way out, picked up 4 sbt's on Whitey's heavy gear before John and flangies had a go with their 20lb gear - heaps more fun!

The weather was good, though the current and drift were making it difficult to jig, 2oz jigheads were only just holding the bottom and 130 - 150g jigs were the only jigs that were useable in the conditions. We persevered with the jigs all day, while watching the old boys clean up on bait. I had a huge hit on an evergreen caprice by what felt like a big dhu, the first hit failed to hook up, and subsequent strikes also missed, bugger! In hindsight was probably fishing a bit much drag, I had just tightened it a bit after seeing flangies get busted off by a sambo! Only 1 sambo was boated all day which was suprising, and caught on bait as well.

By about midday the old boys had almost got our boat limit, getting good baldies, pinkies and a queenie that went 69cm. I eventually gave in and made the switch to bait and caught a pb baldie of 53cm and a nice pinkie that went back. I was told that these fish didn't count cause i caught them on bait!

At the end of the day I think between us we only had about 10 hits on jigs all day, John and I got an undersize pinky each and Whitey got a small bonito. The boat limit was reached (mainly thanks to the old boys), with 4 baldies, a bb, a queenie and the rest pinkies. All day we had the feeling that the next spot was going to produce some big dhu's, unfortunately not this time. It was a frustrating day as we could see the big fish on the sounder, just couldn't get them to bite. The pink 10" McArthy's that did so well last time failed to attract any interest, and eventually came up about 4" short after getting mauled by sh!tfish.

Still a great day out on the water, thanks to Whitey and Matt for another great charter!

Tim.

Mcarthy photo competition

Hi all

We at All Boat Business would like to offer you all a chance to win a great prize pack of Mcarthy soft plastics. We are going to be running a photo comp for a period of one month over a 3 month term, we will be holding 3 comps. The theme of each comp is the best photo of a fish taken on a Mcarthy soft plastic. To make something a little bit different about this photo comp we would also like you to write a brief story about how the fish was caught, techniques used and anything else you would like to incorporate into the story, taking into account that we will also be judging on the quality of the photo. At the end of that month all the photos will be judged by myself and the team here at All Boats and a winner will be announced, once the winner has been announced they will be informed and can drop into All boat business tackle Department and collect their prize. With all the great captures and big hype about Mcarthy soft plastics at the moment I’m sure myself and the team are going to have great trouble deciding on a winner!!

All persons who choose to submit their photos and stories thereby give their approval to pristine fishing for the use of that photo and story on www.mcarthybaits.com.au.

Please submit all photos in the Fishwrecked Competition Gallery for your photo to qualify

So get your entries in for your chance to win a great prize pack of goodies

Cheers

Wrasse

Hey fishing gurus,

I'm relatively new to the WA boat fishing scene and I was just wondering what the reason was behind the negative image of Wrasse caught off our reefs here in WA. Is it because they are a bad fish in their own right, or is it because they get in the way of that prized Pinky or Dhuey? It just got me wondering because I hear a lot of complaining about them.

Cheers,

Guesty

Hi guys , latly it seems alot of fish i catch dhufish , queen snapper , snapper have a real ammonium taste / smell to the meat when cooked up . Just wondering why this is as it is top quality fish that are being caught and put on ice straight away .

would bleeding the fish would have a significant effect on this and is there other factors to include ? cant be the way that i am cooking it can it ?

Well the results speak for themselves.

Thanks to the fellow FW members Honsu, Hlokk, Hookt and Johnny Boii for a great day out and for the photos.
