Wanted: Driver for Thu 22 April
Submitted by hlokk on Thu, 2010-04-15 21:49I'm currently trying to sort out a turtle dove shoal trip for a few people on FW that are interested, but being a one way trip, we need to sort out some transport back from Geraldton for it to go ahead.
I'm looking at hiring or borrowing a minivan in Perth and getting someone to drive it up so we can drive back. Would be able to get people to take over driving on the way back, so just one direction of driving for the driver. Alternatively if we cant hire something, then might be able to get two people to drive up with two cars. (as long as they have a bit of boot space). I may be able to get a 20 seater, but that would require an appropriate license, but will try for something with a standard license. Idea is to get to Geraldton around midday and get back in Perth around 6ish, so pretty much just a day (and only driving in the morning up to Geraldton).
So is anyone available to drive up and meet us up in Geraldton so we can get back to Perth?
Of course, we'll sort out a rate with the driver and fuel would be paid as well of course, and we should be able to send a few tasty fillets their way as well.
Anyone able to help so we can make this trip go ahead / anyone want to make some cash for half a days driving?

wild seas drama ends in rescue
Submitted by bod on Thu, 2010-04-15 09:58
Three men and a woman stranded on a 12m catamaran in wild seas off the Bunbury coast were rescued last night after a 12 hour rescue effort.
The Dawn Glory's engine failed about 60kms off the south West coast late on Tuesday night, on its final leg of its journey from Durban to WA.
Last night one of the men, South African Karl Dahlmann expressed relief as the catamaran was pulled to shore.
"We're very happy to be here, it wasn't really a worry but the rudder was broken and it's just been miserable," he said.
Volunteers from Bunbury Sea Rescue reached the Dawn Glory after a wild ride through rough seas shortly after midday yesterday.
Mr Dahlmann said the crew left South Africa on March 8 and were headed to Perth to deliver the catamaran to its owner.
Despite conditions he likened to a "washing machine" the crew had remained in good spirits throughout the ordeal.
"We've been out here so long and had a lot of washing machine days along the way and it gets a bit uncomfortable but we managed," he said.
Customs officials met the boat, which pulled into the jetty just after 7pm.Fremantle Water Police Sen. Sgt Greg Trew said police received radio calls about 11pm on Tuesday but rough seas stopped volunteers from setting out until first light yesterday.
The distress call said that the boat was losing power and steering in heavy weather. Strong winds and heavy rain battered the South-West on Tuesday night and yesterday morning.
"They weren't distressed but had some difficulties with navigation and lost their rudder and were just drifting," he said.
Bunbury Sea Rescue commander Albert fullarton said the rescue crew had battled 4m swells and gale force winds.
At one stage there was a chance the rescue attempt could have been abandoned because of bad weather but the rescue crew reached the stricken vessel about 12.40pm yesterday, before their long journey back to shore.
Sea rescue skipper Hank Rosendal praised the efforts of his team of volunteers who put in a 12-hour day in treacherous conditions to rescue the men.
"We needed 100% attention all the time because there was not a minute the boat was steady," he said.
Both the steering and engine on the luxury catamaran had failed, Mr Rosendal said.
The boat will be repaired in Bunbury.
The crew of the stricken vessel slept on board last night and were expected to stay in Bunbury while it is repaired. They hope to travel up the coast in the catamaran in the next few days.- 3 comments

Submitted by JohnSorrell on Wed, 2010-04-14 08:42Went for a snapper bash off the stones last night, expecting strong NW'ers and big waves crashin the rocks...
Not happy... turned out to be light North-Easter'lies' all night, and light showers...?!?!
What happened to the severe weather that was forecast?
Anyways.... I managed to hook onto a small ray to warm me up... bloody had me going too... due to my water-logged sol-3000's drags slippin, making it feel like big headshakes.... Dam Rays!
Anyone else have a crack? any luck?

sarcasm0 and others thankyou
Submitted by beejay on Wed, 2010-04-14 08:28I have only been a member here for a short time and I have to say it has been very interesting reading. After reading some argy bargy posts you think to yourself is it worth sticking around.
Well I have to say yes! You only have to read my post http://fishwrecked.com/forum/fishing-alone-dinghy to see the effort that some of the guys on this site put into it. Particularly Sarcasm0 who practically wrote a book on the subject in replying to my question.
So to the regular posters I wanted to say thanks. You have been very helpful to me. To those that lurk (i was one) get in and ask questions. Most of the guys here are very helpful.
But a special thanks to Sarcasm0.It blows me away that you would make such an effort to answer my question in the detail you did.
Cheers

Rod/Reel Advice
Submitted by ezza_b on Tue, 2010-04-13 11:04Hi guys
Can anyone help get me onto a good smaller reel?
I have a 6000 (somewhere...the boyfriend has "misplaced" it) and can use his heavier gear.
Looking for a rod/reel to get into the lighter stuff and onto some salmon etc.
Thinking of a 2500 to 3000 reel and 2-6kg rod. Budget around 150-200?
Heard daiwa and shimano are best but happy with my flueger too (when I find it)
Any ideas appreciated.
Ps. needs to be manageable on dinghy but still ok to cast with.
