Reel Repairs NOR

Gday all was just wondering if anyone knows where i can get my reel repaired/serviced NOR(live in Morley). Did a search and didnt really get the answer i was looking for.

Was wondering if anyone had had any repairs done to their reel and can recommend someone/place

Reel is a Daiwa Emblem Pro, and basically when you wind, the spool doesnt go up and down, plus it had a swim in the surf.

Dont even want to attempt repairing/servicing it on my own as i have found in the past i am a retard when it comes to little fiddly things.

Thanks, Buz.

Hillarys Fishing Report - Thursday

Went out of Hilliarys yesterday. Headed out NW and fished bits of ground inside the bank, on the bank and outside the bank in depths ranging from 40m to 60m. We didn’t have any special spots, and we just cruised around with a lure out until we found a bit of bottom.

I couldn’t believe the amount of boats out there…doesn’t anyone work these days!!!

Weather was fantastic. Between the two of us we managed to bring home 3 nice baldies and a breaksea, in addition to catching a whole range of other fish.

One thing that stood out was the amount of small dhuies out there. I am not sure if it is a good sign or a sign that the area gets flogged. We caught 10 for the day ranging in size from about 20cm to probably just under legal (and I fish with pretty big hooks and big baits). We didn’t measure any and they were all released. Of the 10, all but the two smallest were in pretty good condition. The two smallest ones had eyes completely blown out. I am not sure why this came about (apart from the obvious) as they were bought up the same, and were not from the deepest depth. Perhaps ‘bream size’ dhuies struggle more than the more mature fish. I am sure some bigger fish appreciated their release!!

Be interested in people’s thoughts on the amount of small dhuies around. I rarely fish metro waters but there was no shortage of them.

Enjoy the weekend. Go the Dockers!!

North Mole?

how is the north mole going for sharks, pinkies and salmon. heading off there tomorrow

Extraordinary recapture of tagged barra 12-years later!

Extraordinary recapture of tagged barra 12-years later!
A barramundi caught and tagged 12-years ago in the Daly River has amazingly been recaptured and retagged by Northern Territory Fisheries staff from the Department of Resources.
During the 1998 Barra Classic, Phil Hall of NT Fisheries caught, tagged and released a 48cm barramundi.
Quite amazingly 12 years or 4344 days later, Fisheries staff member Steven Matthews recaptured the same fish which now measured 113.5cm.
Fisheries Minister, Kon Vatskalis said this is quite an extraordinary event.
“This is unbelievable. The barra was recaptured only kilometres from where it was first tagged 12-years ago by Fisheries staff,” said Mr Vatskalis.
“This barra is the longest to be at liberty in the history of the NT’s tagging program by over 4 years.
“It’s estimated that the barramundi is now 13 years old and has grown approximately 66cm in this time averaging 5cm a year.
“The fish was released again and swam away very healthy and we look forward to hearing whether it is recaptured in the future.
“Tag recaptures provide valuable information that assists NT Fisheries with the management of barramundi stocks. “
Recreational anglers that recapture a tagged barramundi are encouraged to call Fisheries on (08) 8999 2144 and report the tag number, location and date of capture and whether the fish was released or kept.

Whaleshark

A few pics of a whaleshark we came across a couple of days ago in Exmouth.

It hung around the boat for about 20 minutes.

Jumped in the water with it only to find a couple of sharks circling below so jumped straight back in the boat.

Awsome experience.

Mandurah Fishing Spots Offshore

G'day All,

We need some help guys in identifying what depth of water we need to be in to target Dhu and Snapper off Mandurah. We will be heading out from the Dawesville Cut.

Been speaking to heaps of people and a lot say around the 30 - 35m mark as a minumum off Tims Thickett / white hills etc but we have tried and came up empty a couple of times now... Could anyone recommend how far we need to be out to amongst it as we have a decent size boat with long range capcity. Is it best to anchor and burley up or drift and bottom bounce?

Also trawling? Whats the go, what can we sucessfully target down and what sort of depths & areas should we look at? Any inside information would be much appreciated :-) Hopefully come Monday morning i can post some photos of the catch hahaha Wink

Cheers

Carnarvon offshore

Hi all,

I will have the pleasure of visiting carnarvon in June/July to visit some mates.
I will have access to a boat and was wondering about the snapper fishing which I have heard so much about.

Do you have to make a trip west of the islands (bernier/Dorre) for good snapper fishing, or can good pinky fishing be had in the body of water between carnarvon and the islands. Don`t want to travel 30nm to the islands if good fishing is available closer to shore.

Thank you

Chris

Two Rocks This Saturday

Just letting everyone know that I will heading out from Two Rocks on Saturday (weather permitting) to catch a really big Dhuie and some huge KGs and maybe a Baldie or Two.  So if I catch anyone following me out, there's gonna be big trouble.  But don't worry, I will take a camera so I can post up some good pics later on.

Finally a decent sized whiting

Another good solid effort this morning.   Managed to get down to tha local for 6:45am.   Water was nice and flat just like tha seabreeze website had told me it was gonna be.   I was stoked that I had tha swell sorted out.   I figured it was gonna be another bucket of herring day.   I keep telling my mate it happens.  Funny though it never happens when him and I get out together.   When we got down to tha beach it was really churned up and full of sea weed.   Tha water fas far from clear wich canned our fluoro visibilty.  We burleyed up and started casting and retrieving. Nothing.    I was hoping to get a herring so that I could have another crack at sending out a ganged rig.   Luckily I had brought sum frozen squid for bait.   I cut one in half and sent it out.   My mate managed a herring and I decided that maybe I would switch up to a whiting rig.   Within a couple of minutes I had a couple of decent sized bites then nothing.   I reeled in to find a really good sized whiting on my hook.  They certainly don't fight like herring do they!!!!  I was stoked! Until today whenever they were caught they were always to small to eat.   This whiting easily had herring size fillets.  After ripping tha hook out of tha whiting cause it had swallowed it.    I baited up again and cast. Nibble Nibble then BANG tha reel screamed and I was on!!!   Maybe 20seconds later I was cursing like a mother fucker cause what ever it was was long gone.   I reeled in to find my hook was gone and so was whatever had hit my line.   I can't wait to land something that makes my line go bang!!! What a high it is when you first get hit and know you have something.  Tha fuckin comedown though is shit when its so quick.   Anyhow I fried my whiting in some butter lemon and salt and pepper for lunch and it was tasty.   Why did I not start fishing earlier in life.   All those wasted hours in nightclubs hookin up with heaps of chicks when I could have been fishing.

Perth FADS - Latest report required please

Now that I'm unemployed again....I have a chance to get out to the FADS.  I think tomorrow will be my first and last chance for this season.

A heads up on whether the FADS are at there locations would be great to save some fuel.

Anyone been recently?

Cheers Pete

FWA Series 11 ----- Signing Off!

We’ll as most of you are aware, I was a Fishing Western Australia (FWA) TV Presenter for series 4, 5 and 6 a while ago. Those series went to air all around Australia and was well received. Recently i caught up with the crew from FWA and I suppose one thing led to another and was invited to come back as the new FWA presenter for Series 11 onwards and accepted.

I look forward to working with crew at FWA and have big plans for us to make a great series and things will be very different that’s for sure. Location changes, more metro fishing, target species to vary, techniques altered and many other things implemented to the making of the TV show which will produce a standout series.

Oceanside Tackle and Marine including myself will continue to look after Fishwrecked members as per usual.

So with a hectic schedule I am going to be one very busy fisherman indeed. On that note, I will be unfortunatly signing off on all my fishing magazine writing commitments and all fishing website commitments due to my schedule and travelling commitments. Tight lines and hope you enjoy the show.

Thanks

attaching lures

would like to know how everybody else attaches their lures... metals/minnows etc

do you guys prefer tying a knot straight onto the lure itself or maybe use a snap swivel for quick change overs?

also is it okay to tie straight to mainline or would a leader be better... would be very interested to hear what works best for everyone else?

Exmouth ANZAC Day

Day started out with this guy parked out the front of our house.

Next we had the local ANZAC day parade come past us. Great way to start the day.

Todays plan was to hit Peak Island. We stared out trolling for mackies on the north side of the island. Ended up with three after a couple hours of trolling.

Next was out deeper to fish the bottom. After a bit of searching found some ground. Harro hooked a nice red straight up.

Things went a bit quite for a while.

Saw this bird hitching a ride on a turtle.

Once the sun set it started to fire up. This was the end result to an awsome ANZAC day.

Winter beach fishing footwear

Project boat

Thinking of building a boat as a long term project. My idea is an island cab around the 5m mark. I've heard that there are boats you can build from flat packs. Not sure If I want to go this way or build from scratch.Would like any ideas you guys have re- building , design website info etc. Maybe someone has had a go at building a boat before and can give me a heads up. If I go ahead with this I will give progress reports and post pics as she slowly comes together.

Competition

Some of the F/W members know I have a friendly fishing comp. each year with my fishing buddy Garbo, but I thought I'd let the rest of you know how it works.

Every time we go out which is most weekends, we compete for the most prized fish caught each day as well as the biggest fish for the year. Species include Snapper, Dhuie, Blackarse etc, but usually the rules (which don't really exist) change every trip, depending on conditions. The loser has to buy the winner a 6 pack of his choice after each session and the over all loser for the year has to take the winner out for a meal and drinks.

As you can see we have even made a trophy between us which Garbo holds for winning both catogories last year. So far this year I'm leading both divisions but no doubt Garbo has a trick or 2 up his sleeve to catch up. Tongue out

FW Exmouth Comp - Opening Night - Friday 14th May - 7pm - Chalet A - Lighthouse Caravan Park

Hi Crew,

The fishwrecked Exmouth competition opening night will be held out the front of Mako Magic's place which is - CHALET A - at the LIGHTHOUSE CARAVAN PARK.  It will be on the Friday night before the competition at 7PM.  It should only take 15-20 minutes to get it all sorted (please try and get there a little before 7)

What will happen is I will hand each team their own clip on tags for the comp (different from last year) and the rules and go through how the comp will be run.   Each team will need to put their individual badge on the fish they catch and take photos of fork length, total length and a photo of you holding the fish with the badge in each of the pics.  You will need to measure the fish as it sits naturally, if the photos look like the fish has been distorted to lengthen the fish then that entry will be disqualified.

There will be categories for almost all of the prized fish in Exmouth waters - if you wish to catch and release or catch and kill that is completely up to you and as the competition is a photo competition - fishwrecked holds no responsibility for your actions.  Upon accepting the entry details you acknowledge that you enter at your own risk and will have agreed to an indemnity waiver effectively stating fishwrecked is not liable for your actions.

The prizes will generally be around $100 cash for each section, I am weighing up buying a birds eye flight as one of the prizes (hang gliding over town), Mako Magic has donated a custom built game rod and triton: http://fishwrecked.com/forum/exmouth-2010-biggest-marlin-prize-finished for the biggest marlin caught (the fish will need to be measured so please have a tape measure on board - any issues with this prize will be sorted by Matt and myself and a winner will be decided)  Gully has decided to do up a print as he did last year, this year it is:

I am also hoping to get Men on Boats on board with a 100 hour service as a prize and will also be doing a random prize for the best photo that sums up the weekend, or just something cool.  I haven't assigned specific prizes to categories as yet, just sorting some of the finer details, but things should be done soon.  There will also be a junior section this year as well as a landbased prize.

I'm sure theres more I've forgotten to mention here, but its getting sorted, if you have any questions, please let me know - otherwise I will outline it all on the Friday night and hope to see all off you who have registered there. :)

Cheers,

Adam
