Pemberton trout fishing
Submitted by Dale177 on Fri, 2010-04-09 08:21ok so i've booked a little holiday down in pemberton for the long weekend at the end of the month, just curious about the good spots, i've heard big brook dam is one of the better places, but i'll be staying close to lefroy brook, is it worth throwing some lures around in there? on the map it looks like it flows off of the warren, so i'm thinking some trout would swim up it
any other spots would be appreciated, cheers.

Power Knobs.
Submitted by Elora Danan on Thu, 2010-04-08 18:07Hi fellow members,
I just recently purchased two power knobs off the internet and I've just recieved them today in the post. I was just wondering if anyone out that has had these power knobs and have done a DIY with placing them on your reel handle? Is there a simple way of doing this?
Kind regards,
E.D.

mindarie 3 mile today
Submitted by Rig on Thu, 2010-04-08 18:03Hi all
went out to the 3 mile today from mindarie. i hadnt been up that end before but had heard a few good reports. i hit the water at 7 solo mission and went out behind the reef anchored and burleyed. not much happend after an hour or so. i moved a km north and did the same. After about 10 wrasse i started landing some good skippy kept 3 then a few blackarse but only 1 sized measuring 40cm. I had a big sambo lurking under the boat and thought i hooked up after a 15 min battle revealed an eagle ray hooked through the wing, gave me an arm stretch though.
i saw a few mack/tuna and threw some raiders and mulies around but no action
great day out
cheers

Would you beleive!
Submitted by Redfin 4 Life on Thu, 2010-04-08 16:28I was absolutely amazed when i returned home about 3-4 hours after catching this redfin using worms at Grimwade Millpond when i turned away from this fish to grab the chopping block and fillet knife and came back to find that a live worm had crawled out of this fish... i rushed the worm back to soil around the fruit tree that it came from where it was almost eaten alive by ants. I thought it deserved to live so i filled an ice-cream container with damp soil until the worm recovered then released the worm once it was healed and it dissapeared into the soil.
Now i just hope i dont pick out that worm next time i go fishing haha.

New Ningaloo Station camping arrangements
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Wed, 2010-04-07 17:34Just wondering if anyone has been up and back from Ningaloo station for their holidays yet. Apparently theres a new camping system/arrangement in place and from what I hear its near on ridiculous with each area of the station being locked off by a key and if you don't have that key you can't go to that area (without going back to the station to pay a $100 deposit for the key) I haven't been yet to suss out whats going on, but it sounds like its a mess.
Would like to hear what you thought of it all if you've been already or can fill us in after you get back.
Cheers,
Adam

Win free membership of a fishing Club for a year
Submitted by TerryF on Wed, 2010-04-07 10:31Win free membership of a fishing Club for a year
The Surf Casting and Angling Club will have a draw for one year's free Club membership.
All members who have been accepted into the club between 1 July 2009 and 30 June 2010 will be in a draw to receive 1 year's free membership. The first draw will be held in late June 2010.
See the Club's website http://www.surfcasters.iinet.net.au/ for details of what the Club does in shore based fishing, dry casting, etc.
Coming up are fishing field days to Bluff Creek (east of Albany) in late April, Rottnest West End in May, Emu Springs, (east of Augusta) in June, a Club safari to Quobba/Cape Cuvier in late June, and more. See http://www.surfcasters.iinet.net.au/FieldDayMain.html for details.
Each month we have dry casting at Yokine Reserve. We can show you how to get the best out of your own fishing gear if you would like to bring it along. We can give advice on different rods and reels and show how these can go together, and also let you try out casting with different rod and reel combinations to find one that suits your fishing needs and your size and physical strength.
Our visitors always get a lot of useful and practical tips, and often add up to thirty or more metres to their casts on the first day. And those skills certainly help when we go fishing.
Next casting is on Sunday 11 April. Details http://www.surfcasters.iinet.net.au/DrycastingMain.html
The Club Magazine Reel Talk http://www.surfcasters.iinet.net.au/ReelTalkMain.html and the website have lots of details of what the Club does and the benefits of being a club member, particularly getting all those shore fishing and casting tips from experienced club members.
See the Membership page http://www.surfcasters.iinet.net.au/MembershipMain.html for a membership application form and the membership fees. People who join part way through the membership year of 1 July to 30 June pay only pro rata membership fees, so it is cheap to join at this time of the year.
PM or email me, or email the Club Secretary on for more details.

Freshwater Trout
Submitted by Dale177 on Tue, 2010-04-06 14:35hey every one, new to the forum, been reading around for awhile and seems a great place!
recently i've been doing some late season trout fishing with the gf, mainly at logue brook dam and harvey, had no luck at harvey yet (only some redfin) but got a few trout between us at logue brook on some rainbow spinners and rainbow minnows..
while thats fun and all, i'm more keen on some stream/river fishing for trout, some im wondering if any one knows of some other spots no more than say 2.5 hours drive of perth where i can get some, will be using lures, but if i find a good spot wouldn't mind trying out some fly..
i've heard good things about collie, but i've also heard it's over populated by redfin (seems to be most places with the lil bastards)
any feedback would be good, cheers!

Salmon off ocean reef
Submitted by tiimmbo on Mon, 2010-04-05 21:10Hit direction bank off ocean reef today with Lamby and after a promising start with a Baldy on my first drop of the lucanus things went pretty quiet. Moved around to a few spots with nothing much going. Hit a spot that had previously produced some small snapper on way in and Lamby pulled an 80+cm Salmon on a Lucanus jig whilst retrieving from a drop. Salmon smashed it half way back up in 40 odd meters of water. Gave one hell of a fight and a few nice ariel moves to boot. Saw a heap of Tuna about today as well. 2 hook ups. Pulled a just undersize Dhuie on back of 3 mile on way back in. must have been a rogue salmon forward scouting for his mates that are still down in the douth west. Was definately a surprise catch.
