Time in Oz
Submitted by dan the man on Tue, 2013-04-09 21:06Hi everyone,
Thought i would post on here just to say abit about my time of fishing here in Oz. First though i would like to say i saw some shocking fish handle the other night on Rocko Jetty. A Guy caught 2 stingrays and picked them up by the mouth and threw them as hard and fast as possible. Then he caught a Port Jackson and spun it around and around and launched it a good 30m. They maybe a nuisance fish but that is no way to treat fish?!
On a positive note though i have had a great time fishing over here. Iv caught rays, banjos, shovelnose, port jackson, tailor, snook, herring, whiting, kg whiting, skippy, bream, flathead, snapper, bluenose, cod and most favourite sharks. Only small being 4ft but great fun and all went back. It has been some excellent fishing with Grace Town probably being a very good highlight as herring were thick and fast.
Going back home in couple of weeks so changing from big hard fighting fish to carp so going to be abit of a diffference.
I have to say a big thank you to all the posts and info that get put onto this website as if it werent for them i would never of caught so many fish!

heading south next week
Submitted by crezz on Tue, 2013-04-09 20:57G'Day guys, heading south next week for a few days or so. ill try and take a few picks and write up a bit of material about the trip. hopefuly get a few blokes keen to travel a bit for a weekend and catch a few good fish. get keen!
after spending a few days down south we caught heaps of salmon most of them from the rocks and only a few from the beach. only saw a couple of schools go through and most fish were caught on poppers. we were casting metal slices at them all day however thay just loved the poppers. plenty of people catching them on mullies and plenty of heads on the beach. heaps of sharks around and it was only taking about 5 mins before our live salmon were getting nailed however we could not land any because the sharks kept missing the hook.

Mandurah help appreciated
Submitted by dant on Tue, 2013-04-09 13:10Hi All,
Im heading down with the family to Mandurah in a couple weeks time to do a bit of fishing in the river and ocean, as it will be my first time down there fishing i have asked a few ppl around that i know but they tell me its very hard to sound down there for spot as its very flat.
i dont like grovelling for spots but would of some good area just off the cut, the cheese and kisses will be with me so would like to hook on to something to keep the interest up, target ideally would be small pinkies and dhueys.
im guessing the river will be similar to the swan - look for some structure pilons etc also what bait rig would be the best bait to use in both?
appreciate any assistance given.
Thanks Again Dan

Deep sea squid
Submitted by joe m on Mon, 2013-04-08 21:20So I have seen numerous documentaries on these massive squid pulled from the depths. Mainly from Mexico and around numerous parts of the americas. Was wondering if anyone has tried this off Wa and how you went? I'm not referring to giant squid but they do look a solid 10kg plus. Just curious as it is a big ocean and there are a lot of strange creatures amongst the depths

finally some good luck
Submitted by donlovesfishing on Mon, 2013-04-08 21:03well this was a long time coming..Went out this morning on my own to the coral lumps off the cape. Was expecting not much luck as per usual. Well to my shock I my finnor screamed off at a rapid rate and after a short fight managed to get my first nanniga, about 43 cms. I was over the moon but not much more after that. On my way back decided go trowl a deep diving minnow. Feeling very satisfied with my catch and having no success on trolling I persisted and to my amazement my reel screamef off again and twice more after that. I bagged two boniti's for my trouble and caught a monster salmon witch weighted at least 6-8 kgs it was huge, but got off by the boat..so the whole day was a first for everything. .one happy camper. .Thanks to all those people that gave me advice and tips on this site. I truly appreciate it all and also starting to know the items on my sounder...Cheers Don

Night Squiding - Parmelia Bank
Submitted by BradR on Mon, 2013-04-08 20:20Thinking of heading out late fri arvo/night to target squid. Anyone know if there are many around at the moment? First time night squiding from boat - what is the best setup and jigs i should be using for night squiding? does the allround boat light generate enough light? or should i be dropping additional lights in the water? Should i anchor up and wait or drift?
Will hit Parmelia Bank and owen anchorage, should i try any other location? Harding Rock etc...

Todays Efforts with some giggles
Submitted by fisho-ron on Mon, 2013-04-08 19:41With this being the last ditched effort to go for a fish before i fly out, (Troy & Blake had work and school...lol....suckers) it was decided to take a couple of my good mates out to the fads, both had never caught a dollie before, with my mate whitey never been to the fads either.
we left woodies on dark and the shits and giggles started early, seems they did not trust my night time driving????
anyhow, on the way out i was telling the boys we are in for a good day, as usal it was take the piss out of fisho-ron's fishing stories...
well i showed them a thing or two
set up a easy 2 lure spread and first pass resulted in a double hook up!!!
now its my turn to laugh as my 2 mates, mazza & whitey, struggled to boat there fish, trying to drive and teach them how to pump and wind was funny as hell, just wish i had the camera going.
mazza's first ever dollie boated and turned out to be the biggest for the day @ 110cm, not to bad for a first PB!!

we all got into the dollies with 12+ caught/released.
seeing we bagged out on the dollies at 9.30am it was time to move back to some shollower water looking for the dhuys and what a move it was!!!
whitey with his first size dhuy and new PB @ 80cm

saying he was happy was a understatement....we heard about it for the rest of the day!!!
i followed up with a nice b/ass and a baldie at 58cm and a couple of small pinkys.
we also got a couple of sharks today with one coming from the fads at 3+mtrs.
all in all a great day out with some good mates and some good fish for all.
cheers ron

boats heading North this week.
Submitted by AaronC on Mon, 2013-04-08 12:29Drove back from Coral Bay to Perth on Friday night/sat morning and couldnt believe the amount of boats heading North. We left C/bay at 4:30pm and counted 20 boats between C/Bay and Canarvon. then from Canarvon the Perth we stopped counting at 30.
Unbelievable watching every second car have a boat behind it. Is there a fishing comp or something up Exy was this week or is it just that the forecast was for light winds all this week.
Nothing more depressing than driving home from holidays and watching boats head north to glassy conditions.
Hope you all catch plenty

Augusta Fishing Trip
Submitted by keano1000 on Mon, 2013-04-08 11:11Hi there
My 1st post and new member to fishwrecked.com. I am heading down to Augusta this weekend 12th/04/2013 for a fishing trip to catch some Salmon. And I have heard of two place to go.
1. Cosy Corner
2. Hamelin Bay
Can anyone give me advise, and good locations in Cosy Corner and Hamelin Bay to fish. And what bait to use?
Also stupid question, but I am new to the fishing scene and I am hooked, so here is the stupid question. The Salmon you catch, can they be eaten? or are they just sporting fish? thank you for your time.
Notes: Been doing alot of fishing at Floreat Drain, in Perth, catching decent size Tailor. Six Tailor in last two weeks, ranging from 35cm-52cm, using ganged hooks, and mullies, best time for catching 4.30pm-5.45pm

With Whitey at Jurien
Submitted by Poppy on Mon, 2013-04-08 06:56My long awaited charter with Whitey came on Saturday. Stayed overnight at the pub with my son and daughter-in-law and headed out at 5.00 am on Saturday. The weather was absolutely crap. The wind was blowing at about 26 knots steady all day and the swell was decent. Of the 11 paying customers, about 5 never wet a line. They provided berley and wanted to die. It was very hard to hold bottom, the drift was so fast and the fish were not playing ball. Whitey tried everything he knew to try and find fish, but there was just no interest from our piscatorial friends. A few decent sambos were caught, but keepers numbered only 5 by the end of the charter. My D.I.L. caught 3 (a red morwong, black arse and a fox fish) and I caught 1 (a nice baldy). I caught several baldies, pinkie and 3 or 4 red throat, but all were under size. Bugger. Whitey said he couldn't remember a worse day, but hey, even he can have a bad one now and again. He is a top skipper and Richo is a great deckie, so I'll be back.
